Did anyone else think Mosley might have beaten Cotto?

I watched their fight yet again - and I'd forgotten how gassed and defensive Cotto became later in the fight. He was supposed to be the young guy in his prime, but it was Mosley who didn't tire at all! At all !!! And not one of Cotto's punches hurt Mosley, not even a body shot. And yet, Mosley was hurting Cotto with his body shots, and landing hay-makers from the outside. If you watch that fight with the sound off, you might change your mind about who won. I'm telling you. Either way, the scoring was complete bull-shit. Watch the rebroadcast and see how Cotto's given the benefit of the doubt in every close round, and Mosley's even denied rounds by some judges that he "clearly" won.

Also, I'd forgotten that Mosley arguably won the last 3 rounds! If not, he definitely won 2 of the last 3.

I think the young undefeated guy gets the benefit of the doubt too much these days by the judges. The Cottos. The PBFs. Basically, these are two guys you'll have to knock out to beat IMO.

Why not just make the point without relating Mayweather to it?

I can't believe this is still being talked about. Cotto won . Why dont you talk about Mayweather/Castillo 1? Now thats a fight that can disputed.

no, but it certainly wasn't an impressive win for cotto.

mosley's been in decline for quite some time and although he beat collazo, it wasn't all that impressive considering collazo isnt that good and he fought scared against an aging veteran.

i gave mosley the benefit of doubt and scored it a draw, but really, i thought cotto won.

i'd like to see mayweather vs. cotto, but i dont think it will say much more about how great mayweather is.

if he did, he barely won. and was a sucker all night for Mosley's right hand. although Cotto did land some clean and pretty shots on Mosley, nothing ever seemed to bother him.

And later on in the fight, Mosley's body-shots were definitely hurting Cotto.

i liked when Mosley turned south-paw that one time and slammed Cotto with a straight left. he should've done that more often.

I think Cotto won the fight by skin of his teeth, still won the fight. I would have been cool wit a draw as well. The fight was good and I wish they would do it again so that we could get a clear winner. Makes me wonder if DLH told Mosley that if he were to lose don't talk about a rematch due to the fact that DLH will most likely fight Cotto next. I mean with Mosley being the warrior that he is why wouldn't he take a rematch? If he were to win that would set up a 3rd bout with Cotto and perhaps a mega fight against Money May. I'll Holla 5000

You can't score fights and you can't understand what is happening in that ring. Cotto wasn't "gassed" he decided to let Shane come to him instead of chasing him around teh ring. Shane was running from Cotto and COTTO himself decided to turn it around in teh hope of catching Shane with something.

Mosley arguably won the last 3 rounds?

Lederman gave Mosley rounds that he shouldn't. It was a CLEAR 8-4 type fight in Cotto's favour.

Shane was getting outboxed and out punched earlier...then he was trying to survive for the thre or four rounds after that (by holding and/or running) and then down the stretch they split rounds.

i thought shane won 2 of the first 3, and 2 of the last 3, for sure. so you're saying cotto won 4,5,6,7,8 and 9? bull-shit. i'm pretty sure the 9th round was one of mosley's best - it was the start of his chasing Cotto to the ropes and getting off. whether or not Cotto was backing up for tactical reasons or not, he was handling the fight much worse from that position and giving Mosley exactly what he wanted.

Mosley loves when a guy runs from him.

I thought Cotto Won a hard close fight, the difference in my eyes was Mosley never found an answer for Cotto's right and it hammered him all night and left him pretty swollen by the end of the fight. They don't always have to be KO shot's to bother and get you a win.
But i would have enjoyed a re-match, but the jab and staright rights got Cotto a win by a hair.

    I can't believe what I'm reading!

    Cotto won it easily.

I can't remember my scorecard but I had it something like:

    1. Cotto
    2. Mosley
    3. Cotto
    4. Cotto
    5. Cotto
    6. Cotto
    7. Mosley
    8. Cotto
    9. Mosley
    10. Cotto
    11. Cotto
    12. Mosley

You could also argue that Cotto won the 12th.

No way Shane won that fight or even made it a draw.

This is MADNESS!!!! (no this is Spaaaaaartaaaaaaaaa!!!!)

If anyone suffered greatly from not having an answer for the right hand it was Cotto, not Mosley. Cotto's right hands were beautifully thrown with perfect timing and technique. And very accurate. But he didn't throw it a whole lot. And it did no damage. Cotto also landed some clean left-hooks to Mosley's chin - this was probably the closest he came to hurting Mosley. what's amazing though is that Cotto's body attack was tamed very much by Mosley somehow.

Cotto landed the cleaner harder shots going down the stretch. :nono: there is no doubt about it, Cotto won.

Mosley landed and threw more shots in the fight. There's no doubt about it, Mosley won.

thank you. i'm glad you've finally come over to my side and can agree with me. we argue about so much - it's nice that when it comes to cotto/mosley, we agree....mosley won.

I need to rewatch the fight.

The scorecards were on point. 115-113 Cotto is how I had it.

Cotto was hurt though to the body in round 11 I think. About midway through, Mosley dug a nice left hook to the body that seemed to hurt Cotto. To Cotto's credit, he came back strong and landed some nice shots in that round.

Mosley fought a good fight, he did better and made it closer than I thought he would.

I'm surprised that Double L, such a hater of holding tactics, isn't more critical of Mosley in this fight.

    word.

Mosley was hanging on for dear life in the early stages of that fight before he elected to run and pretend he's Floyd Mayweather....

The "onliest" reason why the fight appeared close in the latter stages is because of the shift in the mechanics of the fight, initiated by Cotto, who was simply only trying something new.

It was a pretty close fight, but in the end i scored it for Terry Norris.

he shifted because he was tired of getting beat on. and he thought he'd land some mean counters and hurt Mosley. but he couldn't do it. plus, he was tired (Mosley wasn't).

it is sort of annoying how Mosley ties up like he's on protecting the quarterback, and it's odd that he really almost never will fight inside (even though he's known somehow as a good inside fighter?).

buit Cotto was holding too. that's why i can overlook it and am honest enough to say i thought Mosley won.

    Sure buddy!

How was he getting "beat on" when just before he elected to move and box...he'd been chasing Shane around the ring for two or three rounds....and it's not like Shane was moving and boxing (ala a master boxer like Floyd)...Shane was just moving...and flicking out meaningless jabs and doing ZERO damage.

    Come on now....

Before the decision was announced, I said to myself "A draw or a 1-2 point win for either guy would be acceptable"

Good fight. Close fight. I think the bigger indication is that both are top notch welters that would be a handful for anyone.

Cotto HAD to win that fight or it would have been daylight robbery!
