Some say it wil be around 20 million dollars. Poor decision to leave Frank Warren, Ricky. I wonder whether he´ll ever get over it. And if he wants to he can make another 20 to fight De La Hoya. Just think Ricky, all the mismandatories you could have fought in England for a million pounds each.

    I read this yesterday:

    Hatton-Mayweather Shatters British PPV Records!

December 12th, 2007 by kw in Boxing News
The Sun is reporting that Saturday’s Hatton-Mayweather fight is estimated to have done around 900,000 buys on Sky PPV, shattering the previous record of 750,000 buys set my Tyson-Lewis in 2002. (US PPV figures are expected to be around 1.5 million buys.)
RICKY HATTON is in line for a whopping £20MILLION pay day following his epic fight with Floyd Mayweather. (more)
Hatton’s purse plus his portion of the PPV cut will likely pay him around £20 million. (That’s pounds folks, which translates into nearly 41 million dollars!)
If the U.S. PPV figures are accurate, then HBO will have sold roughly 3.7 million PPV’s between the last two Mayweather bouts. Staggering numbers indeed, that were likely helped by HBO’s outstanding 24/7 series which preceded each fight.

Proves that Floyd is indeed a superstar. I'd venture to say that Floyd can generate more money against Cotto than Oscar could against Cotto...showing that currently Floyd is boxing's biggest draw!

He would have made that much against De La Hoya too, probably also against Mosley. Mayweather-Witter would have been a much smaller fight

Agreed about Mayweather-Witter. Obviously it takes TWO stars to make a fight. But I'm saying that Mayweather sells tickets...this much is obvious. Mayweather witter would still be bigger than Hatton-Witter....make no mistake.

That is disputable. In Britain Hatton-Witter would easily sell out a stadium

wtf? no one would want to see witter-floyd. that would be as big as floyd-corley.

witter-hatton in england would be pretty big only because of the domestic rivalry.

What?! He fought the best fighter in the world, made $40 million dollars and still has a fighting career left?

    Imagine that?!

All I know is that for those that claim that u can make more money overseas r sadly mistaken. In 1 fight Hatton has made more money then he has selling out those huge stadiums. As a matter of fact I would be willing to bet that Hatton has made more money in this 1 fight then him and Calzaghe have both made. Which proves that 1 u need 2 superstars to make a fight sell and 2 u need to fight in the US. Money May might have been correct in saying that Hatton should be happy for just fighting him. I'll Holla 5000

Oscar is still a bigger draw. Oscar would make a fortune no matter who he fights. Floyd needs another star to do big numbers.

Bulllshit. All it proves is that gunpowder needs a spark. A tonne of gunpowder isn't worth a fuck if its left on a shelf in a dry room.

    What it PROVES is that Floyd can fight and people want to SEE him FIGHT somebody that will MAKE him fight. {obviously people only found about Joe Cortez later on}

He could take on Joe Schmoe in the morning and we'd all be back at Sq1. You know it and he does too.

    AGREE....Mayweather vs. Cotto could easily do 1 Million buys..if promoted correctly...NO 24/7 cause you know...COTTO isn't much of a character...and Mayweather..well Money sucks..he sucks...he has no personality of his own.....Hatton made that last 24/7....

Mayweather vs. Williams?...500-600,000 PPV buys max...vs. Marga about the same...

You know, you can make more money playing the powerball lottery than you can being a doctor. Anyone who claims otherwise is sadly mistaken. With one $1 ticket, you can make more than doctor two doctors who have worked their asses off for 30 years each.

if that fight indeed did 1.5 million buys in the us then that means mayweather exceeded ANY ppv buy rate delahoya was ever involved in, aside from their fight in may.

The fight was just promoted so well. I doubt you can name a fight that Oscar had (other than Mayweather) that got as much promotion.

Did they do anything you can compare to the 24/7 series?

I don't even really remember much about it, but obviously that was a pretty huge promotion.

24/7 seems to have done quite a lot for PPV sales. It's a gurantee they'll do more of them in the future.

maybe if delahoya werent such a boring, politically correct saltine personality having bastard they wouldve done something similar for his previous fights.
