...you see how comparably dead this place has been since, and how every other thread that didn't directly related to that fight related to one of the combatants......... Hatton at 140 Hatton at 147 Slystaff Is A Pain In The Fuckin' Ass Mayweather Will Never Fight Williams Mayeather vs Mosley- If It Happened etc The new PfP Thread Rounds 11 and 12 of Hatton vs Collazo etc etc etc.
WAR MAYWEATHER!!!! Greatest fighter of his generation!! New and improved version of Ray Leonard!!!! :cheer:
:: It's like beating an OLD part-time boxer in DE LA HOYA is the greatest achievement in the universe....Since that close fight Mayweather is he-man lets forget bumdomir,mitchell,gatti.. but fighting De La Hoya and Hatton makes him the greatest ever..or top 5,10,15,20 whatever...that wasn't even in the discussion a year ago...
I will always give him props for beating Hatton, mainly cos I thought Hatton could beat him, and Joe Cortez aside, Floyd was ON POINT all night. But Oscar? Please! Even a "head over heart" dude like me could see past that. But my point rests:- The Hatton-Mayweather fight has generated more activity than a LOT of big fights. 1 week on, and the shit still hasn't died down. Hatton, ffs, is actually talking RE. Other flies, like Malignaggi, have descended to sniff the remains/fallout.
6 titles in 5 weight classes baby! 39-0, 25 by way of! Even ray Leonard didn't achieve that shit.....:cheer:
i give him props for all his greatest victories...Hernandez,Corrales,Castillo,Gatti,Judah,De La Hoya and Hatton...but he is NOT the greatest of all time....not even top 10...or 20...maybe 30... Talent wise yes..he is top 10-15 all time......
That's what matters! He'll never fight 100 fights like guys gone by...and his opponents are contemporary and so their names don't sound as "grand" as Fulmer, Lamotta, Turpin, Basilio, Armstrong etc. But in terms of raw ability...very few guys in the history of teh game can even match him. Can only think of FIVE at the most!
Jofre, Pep, Benitez, Whitaker...but liek i said he is top 10-15...but come on...HOpkins over Leonard...:nono: stop hating on Leonard and put him ahead of both Hopkins and Mayweather.....secretariat!
Sly, honestly, if (and when) Floyd actually fights and beats a top three 147lber, how will you react? Will you be able to mop up your mess before your good lady wife finds you? opcorn:
Leonard had faster hands than Hopkins, threw more punches, had a more crowd pleasing style (I'm a HUGE fan of Ray Leonard), but Bernard is actually the better fighter. Bernard is more elusive than Leonard was, smarter and honestly...even more versatile. You have to look past how pleasing a style is and the flash and dazzle and just look at the substance. Whitaker is up there too...
:: Hey, I'm just a fan of FLoyd like you or anyone else is a fan of certain fighters in history. I'm not a fan of him personally...but I'm a fan of his fighting talents.
It's all subjective. It's like picking fights, some of us pick certain fights correctly because we've notice dthings the others have missed....
:jester: If you are a huge fan of Ray, you've seen his fight with Benitez, with Randy Shields, with Ayub kalule, and see he certainly didn't always have a crowd pleasing style. Fast hands, absolutely. I really hope you are kidding about saying Hopkins is Smarter/more elusive/more versatile than Sugar Ray Leonard. I mean, thats just stupid. You are clearly not a huge fan of Leonard, however you seem to have an unhealthy obsession with Hopkins and Floyd that pure nuthugging can't quell. I mean really, how bad of a take this is, Hopkins more talented than Ray Leonard:laughing:
Listen Sly this isn;t about Floyd. You know that. Its about the effect the fight has had on the fight scene in general. If you can't stop debating about Floyd thi s and Floyd that then I'll have the thread closed.
