Hops will knock him out (IF THEY FIGHT)

Hatton was not gonna be KO'd either huh?

Joe C is fast and flashy but Bernard is a die hard veteren and he's got the skills to pay the bills... he'll netruilize what Joe can do and make him pay

Bernard never looks Spectacular.. I used to be a big hater of him... but you know why i've come around.. what he does is suddle.. he takes away what his opponents do well.. he is a technition in there joes fast slaps are not going to bother Hops.. he'll take it away, make the fight ugly and hurt this boy

    mark my words

Joe will open a resturant in Germany soon

Someone: Carl Daniels will beat Bernard Hopkins.

Someone else: I don't know about that. Look at Daniel's win %.

Method: What? Daniel's win % is 80%, meaning it's more likely than not that he'll win.

Everyone else: Are you on dope? He obviously meant recent win %. Are you on dope? Look at the competition.

Method: But Daniels won his last fight! I didn't bring up win %, he did. Wahhh. Why does everyone think I said something stupid? What is perspective? What is reading between the lines? What is common sense?

Actually, the original post said "Hopkins will STOP Joe C if the fight comes off but I don't think this fight ever happens."

The reply to that was, "I dunno about that. Hopkins doesn't exactly have the best KO record in the world."

Frankly, the KO % are irrelevent, especially when Hopkins compiled most of those at middleweight.

"Are you on dope? OBVIOUSLY he meant most recent wins" - MikE

Of course that's what he meant. Because if we took it at it's literal meaning, it would make you look like a complete f*cking a$$. Nice tap-dance routine.

The point is, why would you look at Hopkins' fights from a decade ago if you're considering a fight in 2008 at Light Heavyweight?

His career spans almost 20 years, so his career KO % is going to include fights from over a decade ago...which is even more misleading (meaning weighted towards his early career) considering he fought more frequently when he was younger.

...and he fought at higher weights early on in his career. But I digress. His KO compilation spans as far back as 15-20 years, and is influenced by activity as recently as a couple of years ago. HARDLY stagnant, considering the guy fights ~1-2 times a year.

There won't be any stoppages if these 2 fight. Calzaghe will win a decision because he throws more than 4 punches a round.

I'd be surprised if there was a stoppage, but I wouldnt be surprised if Calzaghe tasted canvas, because he really squares up when he tries to throw those pathetic, winging 9 punch combose, and Bernard throws that straight right hand. I wouldn't be surprised to see Calzaghe go down in an off-balance type KD.

Calzaghe may outwork him, but I could see Hopkins diffusing Joe Cal and rendering him ineffective. Too complete. Footwork so much better than anyone Joe has faced. will pick him off all night. Ufortunately it's gonna be a stinker to most.

Hopkins don't do well against guys like Calzaghe even if they are flawed. He has a tough time with handspeed (who don't) and Calzaghe is plenty mobile himself. He has a very good speed advantage as Hopkins is slowing down. His "fight" with Wright was a foulfest by Hopkins. He did what he needed to do to win but Wright is no Light heavyweight anyways. Calzaghe actually should have been a long time ago. The fight goes 12 for sure. Hopkins don't open up enough for it to end any other way.

but he does do well against Southpaws, and while Calzaghe has a bit of handspeed, there's no real power behind it. What Hopkins had an ackward time with, although seemed to be solving down the stretch, was guys with unorthodox speed and power ala Roy Jones Jr in '93. There was no one else, realy. Oscar's sh*t got parried and brushed off. Taylor's jab was rendered a non issue...although Taylor's raw aggression had Hopkins a little more defensive-minded a little longer than he should have been...who knows.

Had problems with Taylor as well. Taylor is technically flawed as hell. Whether you think Hopkins won those fights or not he didn't win them clearly, and he lost more rounds to a guy like Taylor than he should have. Hopkins shitty activity rate lost him 2 fights he shouldn't have lost. Calzaghe is pretty akward himself BTW.

hopkins fighting at light heavy means he is more willing to mix it up than he was at 160 when he clearly mustve felt weak and it lead to his even more cautious fights against Eastman, the third allen fight, Taylor and in the early rounds vs DeLaHoya.

what a garbage fight, anyone who pays for this trash has a problem.

Can't disagree with you there. I thought Hopkins won BOTH Taylor fights, both for diff reasons, but I agree he gave Taylor too much respect...and I think its b/c perhaps he became complacent that since judges usually rewarded him for generalship, etc, he took for granted they would again, and we know he doesn't take offensive risks (meaning, he won't risk his chin to land a couple of reckless shots). Well, it cost him. And it's frustrating to see guys like Wright, Spinks have success against Taylor or bring things out of Taylor that we didn't see in the Hopkins fights. I mean, you'd like to think that Hopkins took some fight out of Taylor, but at the same time, you know Bernard has to be kicking himself a bit for not keeping his foot a little more on the gas. Because he took the least punishment versus Taylor, but the industry wanted more from him in this particular match up.

He didn't really open up against Wright. Not until the later rounds when Wright had started getting tired from all the grappling that went on. His workrate in that fight sucked, he won real clearly but his workrate was still low. the difference was Hopkins landed the better shots.

His work rate was low, but Wright's was lower. Therein lies the skill. the ability to make other guys fight your fight. Tarver. Wright. Taylor. Tito. etc. etc.

As I mentioned earlier, Wright had no real bussiness in that fight or at 170. he looked pretty soft. I am glad they fought because I made a great profit off silly odds but Wright is no Light heavyweight. We'll see what happens. I'll be picking against Hopkins this time though. I think Calzaghe is to active and fast for Hopkins at this stage.

It's doubtful Calzaghe will be in place long enough to throw any 9 punch combos against Hopkins. Hopkins is going to have to be on point with his right hand leads because if he doesn't get Calzaghe's respect when he comes in early, it could be very difficult for Hopkins (who I expect will be at his grappling best in this fight).

thing to keep in mind is that much of the trouble taylor gave hopkins was his lack of activitiy.

slappy, on the other hand, if he stand behind his promise, wii throw tons of punches. know what that mean? tons and tons of countering opportunities for hopkins. in this sense, you have to give hopkins a real real good chance. nobody likes to run into shots they don't see - espeiclally ones coming on the end of shot they themselves have theown.

ad hopkins know s how to make his counter shot s count (ask tarver), trhos convincws alaPPUY wins need to consider all factors. this is hopkins chance to distinnguish himslf as one of the all-tme great fighters ever. don't think he will take that lightly.
