Junior Witter: “I can beat Floyd Mayweather" By Andrew Wake: Britain’s World Boxing Council light welterweight champion Junior “The Hitter†Witter feels that he is the man to do what his countryman and arch rival Ricky Hatton couldn’t by beating pound for pound king “Pretty boy†Floyd Mayweather. In an interview with South Yorkshire newspaper The Star, 33 year old Witter said “I get up for a challenge and they do not get any bigger than Floyd Mayweather. I'd rate it 60-40… in my favour.†He added: “The fight nearly happened in 2006 when I became his mandatory opponent but Mayweather had to pull out through injury and then moved up a weight. “My promoter plans to talk to Mayweather's advisers to see if we can get it on again. “Mayweather has said he wants to come and box in England, so this would be the perfect opportunity for him.†Asked whether he saw any problems in fighting at the higher weight of 147 pounds the Bradford native, who has lost only once in his career when he was out pointed by Zab Judah seven years ago, replied “I would still have the power and the speed at that weight so its no problem.†My take? Well, considering that “The Hitter†has been unable to lure Ricky Hatton home for what would be a massive all British match up, I feel the likelihood of a modern great like Floyd Mayweather Jnr jumping on a plane and coming across the pond is very, very slim. That said, Mayweather has expressed his newly found love of the British and has stated that he would like to showcase his talents on these shores if he doesn’t retire immediately, the key problems though are 1) Witter sells less tickets than your average third tier soccer team and 2) fights with either Paul Williams or Miguel Cotto would generate more of what the “Pretty boy†loves best…Money.
a lot of people would pay to watch witter get beaten by someone like floyd... and i'm not saying its going to be an easy task.
wont happen but witter would do much better than hook n hold. he wouldn't be bounced off the ringpost anyway ::
No one will want to fight Witter unless they have to....Mayweather is no different.....it is a high-risk-low-reward fight....besides there are several other big names all bidding to fight Mayweather that would provide much more marketable fights
Floyd ain't killin' nobody. At best, Mayweather would do to Witter what he did to Zab.....and he didn't kill Judah.
Hatton is ducking Witter, Mayweather is ducking Witter... EVERYONE is ducking the fearless slayer of 'Vicious' Vivian ::
Almost as bad as Margarito being the most feared man in boxing!:: I HOPE Mayweather fights Margarito. The title of the fight shoudl be: "Be careful what you wish for you just might get it" Floyd would EMBARRASS tony, 12 rounds to 1.
True as true gets. But that doesn't have anything to do with Witter, who Floyd would beat, but not nearly as bad as that.
No-one is talking about Margarito :nono: This thread is about the unfeatable (stop laughing at the back), unopposible, indefatigable BEAST that is Junior Witter, who since Hatton lost to the #1 fighter IN THE WORLD is now THE MAN to beat at 140 and 147, for those not too frightened to oppose him. The same Witter whose last fight was in a leisure centre...
Yup Floyd's so good there now making him fight an extra round to give opponents a better chance at beating him.
Very few people in the U.S. have even heard of witter, and even the large majority of hardcore fight fans here have only seen his dreadful loss to Zudah, and he won no fans here. That fight won't happen.
I have seen a couple of his fights. And one thing is for sure he cant beat PBF. He has no shot. He dosent have the talent.
won't happen as I said, unless Witter gets to Hatton first and demolishes him and then beats Malignaggi. I think Witter could beat Mayweather. It's a fight I wouldn't like to see to be honest because they are my favourite fighters but I'd obviously root for Junior. I think he's catch floyd and get him going.
I think Witter currently occupies spot # 275 on the list of Mayweather's potential opponents should he not stay retired.
