Again, how many 35 yr old great "boxers" have gotten beat?

What do you mean that Roy wasn't a boxer? Please define boxer.

You can say the same thing about all fighters. Thats why fighters retire.

He never had a great jab, his punches were all over the place. His hands were down all the time, he was always playing around. He relied on his quickness to win fights. He could never be ali. Ali would rely on his quickness too when he was younger. As he got older, his speed was gone, and he had boxing ability to keep him going in those later years. Roy doesnt have that.

He does have a great jab. He just rearely used it because he could land his left hook and straight right without setting it up. He was that good.

He never had a jab or he chose not to use it? Did you see him in the amateurs and olympics? His shots were all over the place? You mean connecting to the head & body of his opposition? You refer to Ali's older years....you mean post war draft? He was still young (and well rested too)...he was only 32 when he fought Big George.

Compare the 38 yr old version of Ali to the 38 yr old version of Roy.

Boxing is not defined by your foot stance or jab delivery.....I taught my 7 yr old nephew the "fundamentals" in 2 months...anyone can be taught...it's incorrect to suggest that an elite competitor like Roy doesn't understand the mechanics of boxing, whatever that may be. Look at basketball....you'll hardly ever find two great shooters who deliver the same way but for some reason boxing purists believe there is truly only one right way to fight. You would think having an "athlete" dominate the sport for more than a decade would cause them to re-evaluate.

    Good post.

Body punching is a fundamental they teach in boxing as well. How often did Ali throw body shots?

Obviously he could throw body punches, he just chose not to.

RJ beat 2 fighters that are greater than any opponent on PBF resume.
    1. Hopkins
    2. Toney
He beat Hopkins with 1 hand and beat Toney with not much trouble. 2 fighters in there primes.

PBF has had 2 very close decisions agaisnt Delahoya (past his prime) and Castillo. A argument can be made he lost 1 of these fights. Now ask yourslelf this question. When has RJ came close to losing in his prime?

End of argument! NOT EVEN CLOSE! RJ rapes PBF P4P!!!

    Excellent post!

I'm really glad to part of a forum, unlike many others, that has the knowledge to recognize Jones' greatness without needing decades of hindsight for comparison. Mayweather is indeed a great fighter.. but Jones is simply on another level.

Toney was also p4p #1 or close to it when Jones beat him convincingly, easily. DLH was not even top 10 when Floyd eaked out a decision in a fight that he spent going backwards for most of the night.

This fight is going to be very hard to swallow for me. RJ and Tito are my favorite fighters. But I have to side with my countryman for this one.

What Roy Has OVER Floyd is the Physical GIFTS (SUPERIOR Handspeed & POWER), his UNorthodoxy & the "WOW" Factor...He SHITS on Floyd in these Regards....

Roy Jones has a LARGER Catalogue of JAW DROPPING Performances (even in LOSING),than just about ANY Fighter EVER...

& If he's even 25% of his Former Self, he'll KO Tito in JAW DROPPING Fashion...

:nono: No! Reed you must recongnize that Tito is a great fighter. It will take more than 25% of RJ to beat him.

No. They're too far apart talentwise and sizewise, it pretty much will only take Roy to show up in decent shape to win.

Unless something drastic happens to Mayweather before the true end of his career, I'll always rate Mayweather over Jones, pound-for-pound, even if we throw out his two knockout losses. Why? Because Mayweather had an overriding desire to be great. Roy Jones and Oscar de la Hoya both had an overriding desire to look great.

Do you ever bring up facts to support any of your opinions? Just curious.
