Mayweather had nothing to prove. Hatton had to try and prove he could beat the best in Mayweather. As Hatton isn't tops at 140lb (allegedly...Tszyu: shot, Castillo: shot, Mausa/Urango: bums....then why should Witter fight him?)
Hatton represents a name and pay day...both of which exceed his ability as a fighter, IMO. As for him being tops at 140...Hatton is listed as the #1 junior welterweight in the world by many outlets (like Ring Magazine)...which is why it makes more sense (outside of just the $$$) for Witter to fight him at that weight than for Mayweather to fight him at 147. Makes you wonder why Mayweather would make the first defense of his title against a fighter that had to prove he even belonged at the weight...much less belonged in the ring at that weight against the best p4p fighter in the world (and arguably the best fighter at the weight).
Witter has been calling out Hatton for a while now,..plus they are both the same nationality. Makes sense to me.
