don't misunderstand. out-foxing is something tito might expect to do once or twice a round in order to land a shot RJJ doesn't expect. that's what i mean by out-fox - tito's ability to land big shots that RJJ doesn't expect.
I think it's more likely Roy gets caught by shot because of doing something stupid moreso than Trinidad being able to outsmart Roy in a spot to land a heavy enough shot. If Jones goes to the ropes Trinidad should unleash all his fury as that's the only chance i see him having.
nah. i think rjj is safe against the ropes. that's why he goes there. he reduces his area of threat by 270 degrees. can rest. and can cover every possible vulnerability. it'll be in the middle of the ring of, on a counter when rjj is snoozin or showin off that tito could surprise him and short circuit him the way he did Reid.
I think it's more the fact that Jones was KO'd by no power Glen Johnson. Surely Tito hits as hard as Johnson does.
Based. On. What? Trinidad's only had five fights above 154, and he lost two of them. Sure, he knocked out three chinless/defenseless wonders at 160, but that doesn't translate into him having any power at 170.
The safe guess is Trinidad isn't crowding Jones and getting off (let alone landing) anywhere near the amount of punches Johnson did against Jones.
Sorry guys, but Tito has little chance here. The only reason I say "little" is simply because Roy ain't what he used to be, and even then I'd a picked Jones over Trinidad. In reality this one should NOT be competitive. Roy should blow him outta there no later than the middle rounds. If he decisions Tito, I will not be impressed. Tito's only chance is to land a lucky shot with Roy on the ropes acting like a dumb ass.
Tito is using his father as a trainer. That shows you were his intelligence level is these days. Fuck him for that. Jones beats his ass. Trinidad will only throw punches at an open target. And the fact that RJJ claims that he will trade with tito clearly tells me jones will be moving around the whole fight.
If Tito can land a temple shot just like Johnson did that will do it - you don't have to be a good puncher when u hit him there. But that's a big if.
Damn that will suck it Tito gets blown out quick:doh: I hope he wins even though I say that with a heavy heart. RJ is also a favorite of mine. I wish this fight never been signed.
Tito probably can't win but Don King can't win on this fight for sure $15,000 for ringside seats. What the hell is he thinking.
I'm with you on this. I think the center of the ring is where Jones is most vulnerable, and when he's coming forward. Tito comes inside on Roy and he'll get a full dose of what he got against Hopkins, except from a guy who hits much harder--particularly to the body. Really hard to say how Tito can win because we don't know what he brings to the table at this point. It's the only X-factor. Everything else points to Jones flattening him in six.
Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't Jones' TWO KO losses attributed to punches landed when he was against the ropes?
you're wrong. Tarver was him getting caught trying to pull the same fundamentally unsound move that worked before, except he finally got timed. Johnson was a case of him just getting beaten on for several rounds until he got caught with something heavy. Both times he was backing up, but ropes werent an issue either time
Jones wasn't really against the ropes in both instances - they just happened to be there . He was backing up both times, with his hands down. Against Tarver he threw a left hook while going back, chin straight out in the air. That happens ANYWHERE, and you're going down. Tarver stepped into his punch and found an unprotected grill. Against Johnson, pretty much the same thing, except he wasn't throwing a punch. Jones was never a bad fighter with his back against the ropes, in fact he was one of the best--except he was too defensive at times. As he's gotten older, he's greatly improved there. He showed flashes of it against Tarver in the third fight. Against Badi and Hanshaw (I know, lesser talent), he looked like James Toney out there. Why? Because he's far more active there. It's where he works. In the center of the ring, he simply does not have the legs or reflexes to do the kind of damage he did in his younger years. One mistimed leaping left hook and he'll be kissing canvas. Unfortunately, he still tries to do that. Except now, he's wisely mixing it in with a far more refined game. He may get caught, he may not.
Everything is good man, I can't complain. FightBeat=undisputed king of message boards--at least in terms of fistic knowledge. Every time I get out...
Come on, man I thought u knew . Almost as big a Roy fan as you. I'd love to hear what Jake's heard on his end but I hear Roy is in ridiculous shape, man. I have a funny feeling we may see a Jones-Calzaghe/Hopkins superfight next fall.
I Hope so. I want Roy to destroy Tito in this one. Tito doesn't deserve to be in the same ring as Roy Jones after his embarrasing perfromance last time out. Jones-Calzaghe or Jones-Hopkins 2 would be of interest certainly. Tito should have come back and challenged Junior Middleweights or something. I can't believe the audacity of him and his team to think they can beat roy after being shut out by Winky!
