Julio Cesar Gonzalez vs. Julian Letterlough was better than De la Hoya-Vargas. It actually won ESPN Fight of the Year over Ward-Burton. I mean, you had Gonzalez falling flat on his back and his eyes rolling back, and getting up to win the fight on points. Both guys on the canvas and badly hurt.
I have that FNF year in review special on tape and I'm about 90% sure they called Ward/Augustus the FOTY.
I'm pretty sure you're correct. I think the Gonzalez-Letterlough won fight of the year in some other place though.
No definitely not. Tito-Vargas was a high profile fight which involved plenty of skill, action, and drama, and it was between top fighters. Not bums like Ward, Augustus, and Gatti. Its no lower than 4th. Only fights which you can rank ahead of it is Corrales-Castillo, MAB-Morales, and Marquez-Vasquez.
Did you enjoy Tyson-Holyfield II. It was also a dramatic, violent fight with little skill involved and rules not strictly followed.
same here; very entertaining fight; tito/reid was an under-rated fight too - 1st 7 rounds were very compelling with both guys visiting the canvas and reid arguably ahead on the cards.
Corrales-Castillo 1 is the greatest fight ever. Anybody who shits on that fight isn't a real fan of the sport.
Corrales-Castillo had a lot of skill involved. It was a clinic on inside fighting between the two best lightweights in the world at the time.
Yes Jones-Ruiz It was a monumental event, in which Jones openly gave away 20+ pounds to fight a very difficult heavyweight beltholder. Jones made Ruiz look foolish start to finish, in an extreme display of skills. It was a very good fight to watch.
So there is just one corret way to view boxing? That's stupid. Different people get different things from looking boxing. I have rewatched Corrales-Castillo once, there are plenty of fights I enjoy more
