Junior Witter has a perfect chance to enhance his reputation in America after being offered a fight against Mexican Jose Luis Castillo.

The Sheffield fighter was contacted by a US promoter to say Castillo, who lost in four rounds to Ricky Hatton last June, wanted a match.

WBC champion Witter badly wants US TV exposure, however his advisers may be against a bout with the former world champ.

Trainer Dominic Ingle told the Sheffield Star: "If Junior was to go over and beat him easily - which he is capable of doing - people will just say Castillo is washed up and was when Hatton beat him."

The Sheffield camp were hoping to get their light welterweight star back in action around April.

    Personally I think he should.

    No.
He needs to move up to 147lb and beat any of the following:
Mayweather, Cotto, Mosley, Margerito, Williams, Cintron.<!-- / message -->

Why dont he & Paulie just fight? They both complain that Hatton is ducking them, and they both have belts, why not just unify?

BTW- Castillo isnt a gimme fight for Witter btw. Castillo was taking out by Hatton w/a body shot, but Witter is hardly a body puncher. Castillo probably still has a sturdy chin, IF he could handle Witter's early on slaught, he'd have a chance to wear him down.

Castillo certainly has a better at beating Witter than he would at beating Margarita. Phony would beat JL half to death.

he would if they'd fight him. if he does a job on castillo impressively like Hatton did, it can only help. Castillo is shot and obviously junior would prefer the likes of hatton or paulie though

He wouldnt beat any of those guys, no way. I dont even think he'd beat Louie Collazo or Quintana at 147.

This is EXACTLY what I've been saying for weeks...

This is the best way for either to trap Hatton into fighting them, especially Witter. Beating Paulie would give him some profile in the US (esp if he beat Paulie in the US) as well as two belts, which means that he, at last, brings $$$ to the table. Which is, let's face it, exactly what he does NOT bring right now, and which is why Ricky won't fight him...

Hatton, that hated bum, did an 'impressive job' on Castillo did he :crafty:

Junior needs a US profile. He should take the Castillo fight and if he wins he should call out Hatton again, publicly and loudly (as in Jim Lampley's FACE).

Witter has more chance of this fight than a Hatton fight right now. Much more chance...

Well I presume the fight would be on HBO so it would be some well needed exposure for junior. Thats the major plus and Castillo seems made for Witters counterpuncher style. An impressive win against him would GUARANTEE either Malignaggi or Hatton

Witter vs Paulie is a pillow fight with gloves on and arguably the worst title unification in the sports history.

Yeah, I dont think Paulie is scared of Witter. Paulie might not be the best, but I think he's willing to fight anyone. Similar to Judah. If he wasnt afraid to fight Cotto, I see no reason why he'd fear Witter.

You ever seen Witter fight? Except the Judah fight, I mean?

He's knocked out something like 15 of his last 16 oppos (I'm sure Attraction or Boxrec will give you the exact number ).

How the hell is he 'Pillow-fisted'? :dunno:

Yeah, I mean his knockout of Harris was one of the best from last year...Malignaggi couldn't knock him out...no matter how hard he throws his up-jab.

That would be a wild and entertaining fight. I think Witter takes out Torres in a war.

It sure was- he nearly took Vivian's head off with that left hook.

In fact, it's probably Witter's increased power which is responsible for his climb up the rankings. He always had that weird, typical Ingle style which makes him hard to hit- once he learned to bang as well, he became a genuine contender IMO.

    Pillow fisted...

Nah no reason to fight a guy like Castillo. He should go for a Demarcus Corley or Arturro Moua rematch.

Unless Witter can KO Castillo in R1 this fight will do nothing for his cause...

and I agree Witter should fight Paulie loser leaves town match.

Either way Hatton beats both of these guys, maybe a 2 on 1 even it up a little.

    Or a ladder match:laughing:

    :nono:

    Typical anti-Witter bull:shit:...

Witter was something like 9-0 when he took that fight on about ten days notice as a late replacement.

You want to judge fighters based solely on fights they had as novices against experienced champions as replacements?

I know you think all Euro fighters are bums LOK, but that is some :shit: arguement you just raised...

No- he was a NOVICE, working his way through the ranks who took a World Title shot as a LAST MINUTE replacement.

You know lots of novice fighters who won world title fights after two weeks prep?

Besides, the Witter fight was EIGHT years ago. You should watch something a little more up to date...
