Sadly not- I think it was about round 7 when Reid, having been warned a few times in earlier rounds for hitting Ottke in the face with punches, watched in disbelief as the ref stepped in front of him and wanred him for having the audacity to throw jabs at his opponent. He may even have had a point deducted for it (not sure off the top of my head).

This was the fight in which I first garnered my indefatigable hatred of Sven Ottke.

    Crazy, biased, corrupt refereeing... :notallthere:

Bad example IMO. Watch the stoppage again...

Calzaghe backed Manfredo up a couple of times and was stalking him around the ring, before he trapped Manfredo against a fresh set of ropes and unleashed a fast flurry of almost unanswered left and rights (Manfredo managed one, sloppy, loopy shot which missed in response). Whether or not the shots were going to cause 'brain damage' is not really relevant- they were numerous and completely unanswered.

Manfredo was bent backwards over the top rope at one point...

I would accept the argument that the stoppage might have been a little premature, but I couldn't consider the stoppage 'extremely biased'.

Dude, you are out of your damned mind. Manfredo had his hands high, was ducking and weaving. He was fully aware and completely unhurt. There was no reason to stop that fight as long as Manfredo was defending and not hurt. Period.

    Hometown stoppage 100%.

the slappy-manfredo stoppage was certainly clearly wrong - joe throws those silly flurries, and few of the punches were landing, and there was no sign of manfredo being actually hurt. yes normally when a boxer throws so many punches unanswered, a stoppage might be warranted; but not with joe's strange quick-slap flurries. let him punch himself out, then come back with something - that's a legit strategy.
