    Watch.

This fight was supposed to be signed, sealed and delivered by the middle of LAST week. In fact, Team Calzaghe had the contracts as early as a week and a half ago (at least two Fridays ago).

Now we have Jones coming out saying if Hopkins/Calzaghe isn't done by the weekend, he's going to Wales to fight Calzaghe.
Bottom line is Joe & Frank would be much more comfortable staying home and facing Jones.

At this point, Roy has no leverage, which is why he agreed to be compensated a % of PPV upside for the Trinidad fight (as opposed to any guarantee, c'mon, you thought his cooperation for the promotion was genuine?), and this is exactly why he'll head to Wales to take the short end versus Calzaghe (the short end vs Calzaghe is still the best payday for him).

Team Calzaghe probably sees Roy as much less likely a threat, given what he's been through in recent outings (whether its true or not).

In my opinion, it would be a bitch move to fade from a Hopkins fight after all the shit Joe talks/talked, but it would also be SO typical of Calzaghe.

On the other hand, can't say it's a bad idea to fight in Wales, as the Euro curretnly trades at ~ 40% premium to the dollar, so the fight has more value over in Wales.

I hope I'm wrong here. I hope the boxing public demands Calzaghe/Hopkins. However, Team Calzaghe has been sitting on these contracts for FAR too long not to have this fight announced. What's more, given how long they've sat on the contract, why would they sign it just 3 days before Jones/Trinidad?

    This sport f*cking sucks.

Did a journalist report as much?

Everything I read is from a bunch of fringes claiming it's a done deal and heading to Mandalay, MGM, and yes, there are still some 'journalists' that think Yankee Stadium is still being discussed (NY in April? Use your head).

How cna anything be a done deal when there are no signed contracts and no venues selected?

    I hope Im wrong.

Doubt this is true. Nobody has said anything. Hopkins hasn't said anything either about this being off or anything. The fight should be announced sometime soon though admittedly I'm not sure when.

Well Trinidad has his eye on Calzaghe. He said after he smashes Roy he's going to crush Calzaghe.

I give both guys a good chance at beating Calzaghe....but at this point Hopkins is mentally stronger and always comes in with the better fight plan...he won't let Calzaghe set the pace...while Jones will come in still trying to rely on his pure skill that are deteriorating...Jones will be on the ropes ALL fight long against Calzaghe...

Calzaghe will announce his decision after the tito-roy fight. He'll fight Tito in the US if he wins, but he will stay in england to fight Roy. Then, when hops becomes a little older, calzaghe will fight him.

wales is part of britain, and britain doesnt use the euro. we use the pound still. britain, sweden, and denmark have all declined to use the euro.

i guess your point still stands with the pound though.

even if this is a possibility, it would be heavily dependent on the numbers for tito-roy, and the outcome - i.e. how marketable will the victor be after this weekend? they have to pull in an audience for the fight, and then the winner has to look dangerous. good chance this won't happen.

Hopkins has said something. He said that he has signed the contract and Calzaghe is stalling and has not signed. If Calzaghe ends up not facing Hopkins after all the shit he talked about ol'Popkins, he is a bitch plain and simple.

The Roy-Tito Winner would B a More LUCRATIVE Fight for Calzaghe (Especially if the Victory is IMPRESSIVE) & Probably a More WINNABLE Fight for Calzaghe...

Despite a CAREER of SHAKY Matchmaking, REED Can't Really Blame Calzaghe for WAITING til Roy-Tito Plays Out 1st...

Plus, hopkins is not the best fighter to negotiate with. His ppv attraction is non-existant and he always wants parity or the higher purse. Fuck him :flip:

Hopkins agreed to the terms and signed the contract already. Calzaghe needs to be a man of his word and whoop ole Popkins like he's been saying. If he does not sign, he ducked Hopkins.

Hopkins , Roy , whatever .... It's not like fighting one is better then fighting the other ...
If Roy beats Tito , thats not much of a difference then Hopkins beating a fat older Winky ...
This fight (roy or hop) is more then a few years to late to mean anything if Calzaghe wins ....
However if he loses , now we have to see either Hop or Roy "in a sense" back on top again talking trash about future fights ...

How is fighting old washed up Roy equal to or even close to fighting Hopkins for THE light heavyweight title?

Hopkins "back on top" ? He never left, he is on top, he's the man at 175. THE 168lbs Champion fighting THE 175lbs Champion is a far more significant fight than Calzaghe vs Roy.

Hopkins is the Ring champion at 175 lbs. Dominating Antonio Tarver in June 2006 is far better than anything Jones has done from 2004-on. Hopkins hasn't clearly lost a fight since 1993. Roy got KO'd twice in a row and lost a clear UD, all in a 17 month period in 2004-05.

Beating Hopkins is faaaarrrr more significant than beating Roy at this point.

    I would say there's a considerable difference.

Winky was fat at 170, but at least he was an active fighter who hadn't lost a fight in how long? Eight years (controversially)? He could've easily been the middleweight champion. Most people agreed that the fight with Taylor was either a draw or a close win for Wright.

Trinidad, by contrast, hasn't won a fight in over 3 years, and hasn't beaten a contender or champion since 2001, unless you count Mayorga (who did nothing at middleweight).

To you there might be some signifigant difference. To me Hopkins is 42 years old ...
I could care less which one he fights at this point. They are in the same league - old and should be retired. End of story ...

You talk about Hopkins beating Tarver in 06 - well IMO fuckin Hanshaw might be able or would probably beat Tarver ...
None of this crap even matters ..

that's why he fought both lacy and kessler when many were expecting him to lose.

    go figure.

calzaghe doesnt need hopkins. that's a shit fight anyhow. how much credit would he receive if he beats hopkins via boring uneventful decision?

im british, im just being modest about my guy

and anyway, the years of nothingness - when he could have fought prime roy or prime hopkins - are always an embarrassment to slappy, regardless of who he fights now.

Just say you hate Hopkins and get it over with. That is what it boils down to.

42 years old or not, he is the 175lbs Champion and a fight against Calzaghe at this point is way more meaningful than a fight Jones vs Calzaghe fight.

    These are facts.
