I agree, Stevenson is an alright fighter, but BJ is in another league. Hopefully he fights SHerk next, and then moves up to ww to set up the superfight against GSP.

Penn is hilarious. Jens Pulver said on TUF 5 this isn't the BJ Penn show. Well it should have been. He is funny as shit. Hope he beats the shit out of Stevenson.

Joe has a better shot than most people are giving him....He is a beast at 155...

Penn is my favorite fighter of all time (aside from MAYBE GSP), but he is not unbeatable

Penn is as close to "unbeatable" at 155 as anyone in any division right now. Stevenson is a live and great opponent at 155 for Penn, but I see this ending in the first round due to a submission. At worst 2nd round. An "in shape" Penn at 155 is so much farther than anyone else at 155 its stupid.

I saw the count down program last and it looks like he's been training hard. He and his trainer are certainly making all the right noises about being rejuvenated and the Pulver fight having 'reawoken a giant' etc. He seems mad confident....totally serene and cocky. But he still doesn't look as muscuar and cut as he did earlier in his career, if that means anything. Still looks fairly pudgy to me actually.:dunno:

Sherk's style may give Penn some issues.

Val, from what I hear, you have a good ability to assess strengths and weaknesses. Sherk is a smaller, weaker version of Hughes. How do you see him creating problems for Penn?

Sherk also has better stand up than Hughes and has short limbs. So, if Sherk takes Penn down he can go through his typical lay and pray tactics. He's hard to catch in a sub. Also, Penn is still not a 5 round fighter. he can train as hard as he wants forever but some people just have better stamina than others. Penn's stamina in a 5 round fight will always be a liability.

BTW- I just had good information on the Griffin-Shogun fight. My analyzing skills are nothing special. I knew Shogun's excuses before the fight though.

Only fight I've seen of stevenson and he looked like utter shit, he was so bad, every time he tried to kick, he found himself on his ass due to his terrible balance and striking "skills", not an elite fighter as far as I'm concerned.

    You guys called it!

    Penn by TKO2!

Maui Boy Kendall Grove got KTFO again. I don't think he should represent Maui anymore.

that was a great ppv. I was really happy for Werdum beating Gonzaga, and for Marcus Davis winning again.

It was pretty simple to call. BJ Penn is great. That dude he was fighting is another UFC hypejob.

    Valdosta-

We see Penn/Sherk almost opposite. Sherk would want this fight on the ground. And Penn would show Sherk a whole other world in ground fighting. Sherk is way out of his league in this fight. Penn by submission in round 2

Penn looked great. I would love to see Penn wipe his ass with the LW division. Something intrigues me about a Roger Huerta matchup, and I don't even think much of Roger Huerta:dunno:

if Penn beats Sherk, he should move up to 170 for the superfight with gsp (if gsp beats serra). Even if Serra wins again, he and Penn should fight, as their first fight was very close (or so I've heard).

Sherk and his stubby ass limbs will be hard to submit. if Penn didn't end the fight in the first couple of rounds he would have issues IMO.

The lightweight division is so stacked right now, there should be at least 1 marquee lightweight fight on every card.

I want to see Penn against Frankie Edgar or Tyson Griffin.

Griffin, Edgar, Guida, Herta, Thomas, Florian and a few others are all GOOD, but Penn and Sherk are head and shoulders above the rest, imho. Hopefully the winner moves up and goes after the ww title.

I agree to an extent. Penn at WW just seems lazy to me. I would much rather him stay at LW and fight Griffin, Guida, Huerta, and all the rest.

But Val, I agree Sherk isn't an easy submission and the conditioning that guy has is awesome. You may be right, but I just see Penn in a different league. But i could be biased about it and not even realize it:lol:

Which means nothing. Pierre beat Sherk all around. Pretty much better in every area. Pierre beat Penn by taking him to the ground and laying on him. Same thing Sherk would try to do. Oh, and those were 3 round fights. Instead of winning 2-1 GSP would have beaten Penn 4-1 in a 5 round match.

Nobody has even mentioned that Sherk was on roids before. Let's see how he matches up with BJ off the juice. It could be a whole different guy.
