Let's Make it CLEAR, REED is VERY DISAPPOINTED that Roy Jones DIDN'T KO Felix Trinidad... REED Said PRIOR to the Fight that he'd CRITICIZE Roy if he DIDN'T KO Tito & That's PRECISELY what REED is Doing Now... "However", Roy VISABLY HURT Tito Virtually EVERY Time he Landed FLUSH...After All, He DROPPPED Tito w/a Fucking JAB!!!!:eeeek: & REALLY Shook him w/that Right Hand that Dropped him... Roy just REFUSED to Go that Extra Mile or Throw the Requiste Extra Punches to FINISH Tito... Has Tito EVER Backpedaled MORE than he Did Tonight???....Didn't Think So:nono: ... N the POST Tarver Era of Roy Jones Fights, REED would Rate this Bout a B-....But N the PRE Tarver Era, this was a VERY AVERAGE Performance from Roy.... 1nce Roy KNEW Tito COULDN'T Hurt him, 1nce Roy KNEW he Could HURT Tito @ WILL, he Took his Foot OFF the Pedal...It's Almost like Roy & Tito had a Pre Arranged AGREEMENT or Something... Love ya Roy, but U SHOULDA KO'ed Tito.... REED:doh:
It was obvious he could have knocked him out any time he felt like it. I will say this though Tito does have some chin i bet Roy never amagined that Tito could take them punches from him. He is in effect a blown up 154lber.
ive always said tito couldnt beat roy w/ a bat.. boy did i enjoy this... A few years to late, but comparing the 2 to their primes roy has lost more than tito and it was a freaking mismatch. like reed said... rjj took his foot off the gas around the 4th/5th and cruised... AND STILL!!!!!!!!!!!
Roy backed Tito up......that was good enough :dunno: Maybe Roy should have ran like Oscar did since he knew he was up ::
Agreed. What bullshit! I shoulda known.... these two are friends anyway. I shouldnt have expected Roy to have any fire to KO Tito.
I always had that feeling that if Roy stepped it up, he would have put him away, but thats just Roy being Roy. All these years he's been criticized for being cautious and not a killer even pre-Tarver, all the while often overlooking the genius of the man. Tito deserves credit, though. He showed major balls in taking this fight, and alot of heart in recovering and coming back to at least go 12 rounds with a man that was MUCH BIGGER than him. I think Roy carried him to a degree. I also think that he got hit just enough times to stay cautious. Never noticed him being seriously hurt at any point, but a few of Tito's shots got his attention and kept him on his toes. Good fight. It was what it was. Tito should retire IMO because he has nothing left to prove. There's always Oscar at 160 but De La Hoya wouldn't take that fight.
Jones shouldn't have KO Tito, he needs the rounds if he's going to keep fighting :dunno: It was the best thing for him to work on his confidence, he handled the weight well @ 39
I'll tell you what both fighters showed they are not shot, Tito fought a guy just to big and credit he beat his deamons and fought a GREAT fight, Roy didn't take any risk AS Usual to ko Tito making sure he didn't get caught cause obviously he felt Tito could bang. But tonight showed Tito could hang with anyone @ 154 to 160 and Roy will give Cal & B-Hop Hell. Good Show Roy and Tito.:cheer:
i'm kinda glad tito made it through the last round. after the first knockdown, i was scared the he might get seriously hurt. i heard dan rafael mention roy fighting the winner of pavlik-taylor. i'd hope that he fights taylor because pavlik could do some real damage on him.
That makes sense considering Roy and Taylor was suppose to fight before Jermain fought Pavlik. I would prefer to see Roy fight the winner of that fight then fight Calzaghe.
I think Roy should fight Calzaghe or Glen Johnson and retire. Wow the fight is on the main page of yahoo!
My prediction was right, I think Jones took it easy on Tito since they are friends. Roy barely threw any punches to body and was pretty much head hunting most of the night. I think if he would of went to the body more he could of really finished Trinidad. It was entertaining fight though so I can't complain for the most part.
Are you serious? He just lost four rounds to a guy who has been skunked over the past 5 years, coming up in weight, out of retirement. Roy Jones doesn't have the will to beat ANY top level fighter, the handspeed is still good, but he would get punished by Tayor/Pavlik/Hopkins/Calzaghe/hell probably even Dawson
Tito looked better than he ever has in the past five :dunno: you need to look at the whole picture, you are speaking about terms on paper still. Jones was preparing for 12 like he always does, not sure why the four rounds mean so much now, sounds like you are TRYING to make a bigger deal about it than what it really is:dunno: Unless you want to say Tito looked aweful :nono:
Tito looked better because he was in with a near 40 year old guy who was tentative and who fought with zero drive. Tito is basura at this stage in his career, the fact that this was even competitive speaks to how out of it Roy is, not how good Tito is or anything like that. If it had been Calzaghe fighting Tito, the fight would've been over in 2 rounds, and Roy, if he were someone else, would've made it happen when he floored Tito/had him hurt from a temple shot
You are acting like you didn't watch the fight, he had plenty of stamina and threw crushing hooks :dunno: Unless you want to say those punches looked slower and less powerful because of Jones made time stand still :notallthere:
I was one of the only ones on the board that went ahead and ordered it:: Roy threw good quick shots, and caught Tito, a chinny 154lber, several times flush. The result was two KD's (one balance) and an inability to KO his man.
That's how Jones always fought :dunno: Gonzales when he was in prime ring a bell? He always fights just enough to gaurantee a win, even Hall almost went the distance :dunno:
Except this current Roy doesn't move nearly as well and his reflexes are slowed. The Roy you apparently watched today would never lose almost every round and get KTFO by Glencoffe Johnson
I seen Jones use better defense today and keep his hands up effectively while not spending as much time as he used to on the ropes, I don't know what you seen. The Roy I watched today, wouldn't get KO by a nothing punch Johnson delivered, or the Roy that fought several times since the Johnson fight:dunno:
Isn't it more likely that Jones defense looked better because he fought someone smaller, who threw half as many shots, who wasn't able to keep forcing the action amidst Jones' counters? The Roy I watched today, is the same Roy that fought Tarver the third time, except his opponent was smaller, slower, less skilled, etc...
