Skelton did a hell of a lot better than I expected- Chagaev was dogshit.

If the fight were in England, Chagaev would have lost.

What the hell has happened to the HV division? :dunno:

I still wish Valuev had the WBA belt. At least the matchups then were both freakish and intriguing.

Skelton was about three stone lighter than normal. No 'Sprott' type of fight today...

He looked sharp, and was never going to get KO-ed. Also, he landed at will with every uppercut he threw. Chagaev won, but take a look at his grill. He got bashed...

    Incredibly...

    Skelton- good effort

The only thing intriguing about Valuev was how could such a shitty boxer hold the title.

Well.... that is intruging!:dunno: and how ugly he was, especially when he didn't shave his back for a fight. And finally how freakishly powder fisted he was! All intriguing elements if you ask me.

BBC says that Chagaev was a clear winner and that if anyone was getting stopped, it was our man Skelton.

All this coming from an organisation not known for pro-Germanic, anti-British sentiment.

Skelton, it seems, was beaten fair and square.

He was and in the 11th it looked like he MIGHT get stopped though not very certain. And he didn't look sharp at all. Chagaev looked like shit though. That being the only correct observation MTF made i wonder if he really watched the fight.

Usually, a British guy has to be well beaten for them to accept he was fairly beaten, especially in Germany. The fact that they say it was a loss makes me pretty sure that Skelton was well beaten. Also, Skelton does not {yet} appear to be questioning the decision, which is usually the first thing done.

Even the british broadcast said Chagaev was winning easily... i don't get the whole thing mtf is talking about.

I watched it. It was very close but I had the edge going to Chagaev by two rounds. The wide margins of the the judges scorecards was strange though.

Of course I watched the fight (though I was in the pub at the time and had been for much of the day...)

Skelton looked tired in the 11th, but at no stage did I think he was going to get KO-ed.

And if you didn't think Skelton looked sharp, then you obviously missed his last fight against Sprott, when he looked incapable of throwing a punch without keeling over due to over-exertion.

Compared to THAT Skelton, he looked as crisp as f*ck...

IMO, the BBC report on the fight is complete balls. So was the Setanta blurb afterwards. Honestly, I seriously suspected that they had not watched the fight.

Skelton lost, but he was nowhere near 'well beaten'. The judges scores were insane. The referee was typical of German fight referees (i.e hilarious).

    And Chagaev was AWFUL.

That fat dude who does the summation for Setanta... :notallthere:

I can't remember anyone being hit as cleanly and as often as Chagaev was by uppercuts in this fight. Every time Skelton threw one, it landed and snapped Chagaev's head back sharply.

The broadcast, which was German, showed absolutely none of these in the 'end of round collages'. Just shots of Chagaev skimming punches off Skelton's temple... :dunno:

HOWEVER, at no point in this thread have I said that I thought that Skelton had won...

My point, good sir, is that Skelton is shit. And any decent champion should be able to knock him clean out of the arena. The fact that Skelton looked sharp and was competitive shows how bad Chagaev is and is a further indication of how bad the HW division has become.

As an amateur Chagaev beat Felix Savon who is the consencus best amateur heavyweight (220 lbs) ever. Now that he doesn't shine as a pro it proves that pros are crappy :dunno:

No, it just proves that Scelton is way better than "the best amateur heavyweight ever", which further prove the point that amateur boxing is pointless and means nothing.

Chagaev fought to the level of his opposition. He was lazy and sluggish and only came on in the last three or four rounds. I hope for his sake that it wqas ring rust.

I had Chagaev winning by six rounds and with the point taken off Skelton (he probably should have had two points for persistant fouling) then that made him losing by seven point.

Many rounds were close but Chagaev did the clean work and landed the cleaner and more powerful shots.

Great. So Chagaev is going to hold that belt hostage while all of the unifications are taking place:doh:

This means that him vs Wladimir was just another pile of :shit:

I know Golota would fight another titlist. That's for sure. Go Go Golota.

Chagaev would have more problems signing his name on the contract than he would with Golota. McCall deserves a title shot far more than Golota and he's actually dangerous. I doubt Golota is even a top 100 heavy right now.

    Troll my ass.
I'll bet you both. I get Chagaev over Golota. $100/each.
    Back it up.
Fact is, I'll take anyone with a pulse against Golota, although it might have to be for less.
    Golota is complete trash.
