Tito didn't look smaller to me. The Roy I watched today was even smaller than the one who fought Tarver, threw MORE punches than Tarver did in the third fight...... and took shots from a heavy puncher and risked more despite this opcorn:
So I guess you guys will never give Tito any credit. To suggest that Roy carried him and to say he could have ko'd Tito at any point is beyond me. If Roy could have ko'd Tito he would have done it. End of story. I thought Tito did very well considering 99% of you thought it was going to be a blowout. Give Tito and Roy the respect they deserve. It was a good fight. You guys bitch too damn much.
I told you. I don't know why this should come as a shock. Roy has been this way his whole career. I mean as talented as he is and against some of the competition that didn't come close to his talent level, of course he's going to have a high KO rate, especially when he was a mw. But his demeanor has never been as a go after a guy with the intent of breaking his will. I mean the guy actually apologized for KOing Griffin in 1 rd for christ's sake, thinking he robbed the fans of a great fight. It's like I said, I would have actually been surprised had Roy KO'd Tito.
I predicted UD. A tiger doesn't change his stripes. The closest I've seen to that was Tito throwing body shots!!
Hopkins aint gonna KO Roy. Hops is less aggressive then Roy is. With Hopkins' 20 punch a round style Roy would have a chance at winning against Bernard.
omg REEDsaTARD when Roid losses he's SHOT. When Roid looks bad he's carrying people. You're so pathetic
Roy has slipped, there is no doubt about that. I do think stylistically Calzaghe and Hopkins and Glen Johnson are the only people Roy should fight.
I give Tito a lot of credit.. he fought great! He threw some VICIOUS body shots and he took some good shots! I was suprised that he took Roy's Rights as well as he did.. I had hoped to see Tito bumbleing around and KO'd like the bitch hoe he should have been.. I wish Roy would have KO'd him then SODOMIZED him in the ring..
A win is a win. Yes I would have liked Roy to KO Tito but atleast it allows Tito to continue fighting and Roy looks to have the ability to once again compete. Also what happened to Roy's chin? I'll Holla 5000
:: Before even coming on the board I KNEW this thread would be started. I don't know what folks expected...I could understand folks predicting a knock-out, but I don't see what the big surprise is regarding a distance fight given how RJJ has fought the last 5-7 years (and even some before that). Add to that the fact that he's 39, went DOWN in weight to 169.5 lbs., and has been KO'd twice (and hurt once badly on top of that)... He wasn't going to take unecessary risks. There were SEVERAL times that RJJ put together some very quick, powerful combinations to head and body that he wouldn't have done had he truly been trying to carry Trinidad....they didn't do the trick; and there is only so much risk a man can take. :: I didn't really see Trinidad "visibly hurt" by EVERY punch RJJ landed. ANd actually, the 2nd KD was clearly a balance shot. I expected Trinidad to look much worse than he did; he showed the ability to box off the back foot, used his jab more than he has since maybe 147, really focused on the body, and was able to return fire more than expected. He looked stronger than expected (I expected the disparity to be worse). That said, his ring rust showed - his accuracy was off, his left hook was way wide, head shots weren't turned over fully at times, he was unsteady on his feet (more than usual), and his workrate is WAY down. RJJ got very loose and looked very good over the 2nd half - quick, sharp shots, some angles, good reflex counters, great lead right and left hook.... But that was against Trinidad with all his ills...and even then RJJ couldn't sustain workrate. And his head movement is much more limited than it used to be (nothing new). RJJ should not fool himself....a fight with Calzaghe would not be pretty...neither would one with Hopkins or ANYONE else. We got what we expected - and as Tam says, a little more given the Bunema-Karmazin upset and Golota-Mollo being somewhat entertaining. Both guys should hang it up (again). Peace.
I dunno about a fight with Hopkins not being pretty for Roy. Hopkins is pretty damn washed up himself, and will be moreso when Calzaghe is done with him. Roy STILL is much quicker than Hopkins, and Hopkins doesnt have the power to KO Roy, and Hopkins' workrate is CRAP nowadays as well. If Roy & Hopkins fight at this point, I give Roy a VERY good chance of winning.
Fuck retirement - they should carry on. In fact all shot or soon-to-be-shot boxers should fight ON. :: :bears:
they both were impressive.. Roy showed some good defense, so did Tito! Neither guy really took left hooks at all.
Roy said in the post press conference the reason why he wasn't throwing that many hooks because he injured his bicep in sparring, supposively he tore his ligament 3 weeks before the fight. He didn't want to cancel the fight so he fought injured.
This is the same guy who said he beat Bernard Hopkins with one hand and that he looked mediocre against Harding because he broke a rib or two before the fight. He's the most perfect fighting wounded man I've ever seen if all of these things are true over his career. I'm not saying he's outright lying; but he does appear to strecth things a bit. A simple "I hurt my arm" would suffice.
like when Tyson said the famous "I broke my back" ? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rw47gXsDwjw
& WHO Did U Expect the Thread Starter to B???:: Roy DID Throw Some HURTFUL Combo's @ Tito, but REED's Main Problem was that Roy DIDN'T Follow Up on them...N Round 6, Roy BACKED Tito N 2 a Corner w/a Combo & BACKED OFF of him... N Round 7, Roy DROPPED Tito then Made NO GENUINE Effort to FINISH him... The 10th Round Knockdown was a RESPONSE to a Tito Flurry...& the Fact that the Right Hand GRAZED Tito Probably HELPED him...Roy Fired the 1-2, Knocked Tito Off Balance w/the JAB & the Right Hand Merely GRAZED Tito...He Might have Been N SERIOUS Trouble had that Right Hand LANDED Squarely... This Fight Looked like a Guy Fighting Against his Little Brother...Roy would Cover Up Blocking Virtually Everything as Lil Brother Fires Away w/Predictable Combo's...& just to Keep Lil Brother N Line, Roy would RESPOND w/BETTER Combo's...More Times than Not, he Wobbled, Stunned or Rocked Tito w/those Combo's... N Addition to the 2 Knockdowns, he Snapped Tito's Head Back w/SEVERAL Lead Rights & Uppercuts...The Mere Fact that Tito Fought N RETREAT More than Ever is a SIGN that Roy was HURTING him Alot... TOTALLY agREED w/U about Roy NOT Sustaining Workrate...The Rounds that he LOST was a Result of his PALTRY, Bernard HopkinsESQUE Workrate... REED
Jones had Tarver stun 2 or 3 times in Round 5 of their third fight...and twice he just took 3 steps back and allow Tarver to recover...JOnes landed an uppercut on Tarver that lifted milkdud feet of the canvas...JONES is just too timd a figher nowadays..he is afraid of getting counter and kotfo...
I don't think enough has been said how Roy can STILL throw those right hand leads in a blink of an eye, and connect! :eeeek: Who can do that? :nono:
I'm just wondering for those that continue to claim that Hopkins will beat Roy. How? I guess it's because he throws 60 punches per round? I'll Holla 5000
