WTF?? Steve Forbes thats the best name he could find?? why didn't he just challenge Ivan Calderon and ask him to move up to 147! Forbes gets “Golden Boy†Fight to be telecast during a “Free HBO weekend!†By Flattop FightNews has been informed that former IBF super featherweight champion Steve Forbes has been selected to fight Oscar De La Hoya in the first of three “Farewell†fights that the “Golden Boy†has proposed for 2008. Forbes, the former IBF super featherweight champion and runner-up in Season Two of The Contender was chosen over IBF jr welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi and WBA #3 ranked lightweight Dmitriy Salita. Forbes will face De La Hoya on May 3rd at a catch weight of approximately 150 pounds, which - ironically - was the same weight limit for the participants in Season Two of The Contender. Forbes contested the first part of his career at 130-pounds but his speed and ring generalship have allowed him to successfully compete at jr welter and welterweight. In his most recent fight in December 2007, Forbes – weighing 142 pounds - manhandled former hotshot Francisco Bojado en route to win a split decision. Although five foot-seven and half inches, Forbes fights “tall†with exceptional hand speed and reflexes. De La Hoya is the bigger man at five foot-ten and half inches, but the matador style of De La Hoya should provide an interesting counterpoint to the sharp shooting skills of the veteran Forbes. Golden Boy Promotions will officially announce the De La Hoya vs. Forbes contest this week. HBO will telecast the De La Hoya-Forbes fight during a “Free HBO weekend!â€
  1. Forbes ISN'T even 5'7... 2. Forbes DOES NOT "Fight Tall"... 3. Forbes DOES NOT have "Exceptional" Hand Speed & Reflexes... What a CROCK of Shit... Hope U're PROUD, DOUBLE L...YOUR Boy is Facing Grady Brewer & Demetrius Hopkins LEFTOVERS... REED
What about your boy Jones Prince Badi Ajamu Anthony Hanshaw Followed by TiTo a guy that has been cleaning pots and pans for the last few years.
^^^^At least those guys weren't at a HUGE size disadvantage. And Hanshaw was undefeated. There is no comparison here.
Dont let that fool ya. Dela should be fighting Cotto. People just like to hate on him for any reason.
Ajamu & Hanshaw were ROY'S SIZE...Not Only that, Roy Fought them after 2 BRUTAL KO Losses...Ajamu Had a Title of Some Sort & Hanshaw was UNDEFEATED... DeLa's Picking on a 5'5 NATURAL Jr. Lightweight, After a Sparring Session w/Floyd & a KO WIN Over Mayorga...& that NATURAL Jr. Lightweight LOST to Grady Brewer & Demetrius Hopkins... U Mentioned Roy, THINKING that would Somehow JUSTIFY what DeLa's doing, but INSTEAD, U've Made DeLa look even WORSE... Sorry, but there's NO COMPARISON:nono: ...Hope U ENJOY DeLa vs Forbes AND your Avatar... REED::
So Fighting Steve Forbes ISN'T Reason Enough to "Hate" on DeLa???... REED has Seen Jr. High School Kids BIGGER than Forbes... What, Paul Malignaggi was Tooooooooo TOUGH, Toooooooo BIG??? REED:dunno:
I do indeed, do you ever draw Roy in the buff just for fun :tease: But every one acts like Dela invented this behaviour, that is boxing.
actually he punked Hopkins over 10-12 rounds with ease...but G deliver the bullshit decision to Demetrius..
but damn steve forbes...? that sucks for us...but i'm happy for FORBES...after years as a pro...he Finally migtht get the payday he can retire on... I would've prefer Salita..but he hasn't earn the payday.....and Malignaggi has other opportunities in the the future..Hatton/Witter/moving to 147...to make money.
The undercard is stacking up. From what i've heard it's going to be: Roy Jones vs Ishe Smith Wlad Klitschko vs Peter Manfredo Bernard Hopkins vs Alfonso Gomez
The interesting thing is who trains Forbes for this fight. Floyd Mayweather Sr was working in Forbes' corner will train Oscar. It was rumoured then Roger Mayweather will train Steve Forbes. If Forbes would win Roger would cost himself his brother and his nethew Millions.
Yeah, REED Saw the Fight (Barrera-Marquez Undercard), but the FACT is, DeLa's Fighting a Guy w/a LOSS to Demetrius Hopkins AND Grady Brewer... REED::
Just released Oscar is gonna have a 4 round exhibition with Nonito Donaire to sharpen his skills before the Forbes fight!! It's being billed as the "WAR FOR 4" FREE TV yay :flip:
Oscars last 5 opponents. Mayweather, Mayorga, Hopkins, Sturm and Mosley. He deserves a nice easy fight. Besides all this is is just a confidence booster going into the Mayweather fight.
Huh???:dunno: Forbes Could Make LIGHTWEIGHT if he wanted to, yet he's Fighting DeLa @ 150???... How is this Anything BUT a "Garbage Fight"???... REED
5 fight in the last 4-5 years? He needs a bunch of tuneups back to back if he really want to get in the mix of things.....Forbes, Malignaggi, Salita...May, June, July.....back to back....
The PROBLEM is, he's Taking a "Nice Easy Fight" Against a LIGHTWEIGHT... Were there No Jr Welters, Welters or Jr Middles Available??? REED:dunno:
Oscar is fighting Forbes to prepare for Floyd. It's a stay busy fight, which he definitely needs against a smaller quicker guy. Obviously it's a mis-match but Oscar sure as hell isn't the only guy to ever take a tune up. I'm actually glad he's doing it, he will be sharper if he's more active going into the Floyd rematch. I didn't see anyone bitching this much when Roy picked on Tito last weekend. It's basically the same as what Roy just did. Only forbes isn't coming off a 3 year layoff and he's actually fought at 150lbs before. I'm also really glad to see Forbes get a payday.
Were there no lightheavies available for Roy? Did he have to choose an inactive 160lb'er? This isn't much worse than what Roy just did, and I don't see why Oscar is getting so much shit.
Right. Its not like hes fighting Forbes and thats it. Hes fighting Forbes then the best fighter in the world right after. Its just a confidence booster. Nothing more nothing less.
