Malignaggi isn't nearly as slick as you think. DLH isn't in his prime, but he'd still pound him with is jab.
When a Roy-DeLa fight is ANNOUNCED, THEN U Can Talk...Having Said that, DeLa is a MORE CREDIBLE Opponent for Roy, than Forbes is for DeLa... Roy is Actually Threatening to MOVE DOWN To DeLa's Weight, whereas DeLa is Making Forbes MOVE UP to his...BIG Difference... Not Really Sure WHY U Insist on Dragging Roy N 2 DeLa's Own Private EMBARASSMENT... REED
This is true ... Especially at 156 !!! At 156 , DLH might KO Roy's ass out of the ring ... Forbes has no shot at doing that to Dela ...
Forbes would probably do that to Oscar if Oscar had to came down to 140-142 to fight Forbes. Oscar would be a corpse from making 140, like Roy making 156.
ODLH is a promoter now. This fight is beyond a joke. Why people continue to buy this guy's PPV's and give him a single degree of credibility is absolutely beyond me... :nono:
It's a shit fight and I certainly have no intentions of wasting money on it. But I'm actually indifferent to the outrage. DLH is diminished and hasn't been relevant for years now. So I couldn't less on whether the guy he's facing in-between tough fights is up to snuff or not. Besides, it's a shopworn complaint. Everyone griped when he fought Sturm before Nard, Campas prior to Mosley II, etc... Yeah sure, even at this late stage, I'd still love to see a fight like DLH vs Forrest (along with Tszyu and Wink, he's the only guy Oscar missed in his resume). But I won't lose sleep if it never happens.
I want to rip on Oscar for taking this fight, but we are talking about a guy who fought Bernard Hopkins at middleweight. Honestly, Oscar always fights the best comp out there.... let him fight Forbes.
No. Bernard Hopkins at Oscar De La Hoya stipulated catch weight. Which was no small ask, considering that Hopkins was 40 years old and had been a middleweight or higher his entire career. How that was swept under the rug of GOlden Boy bullshit, I'll never know.
Ah, I forgot about that. Still the point stands.. he fought Hopkins, and tons of other top guys over the years. Give him an easy touch for all I care.
Exactly, but its Dela and most on here hate the guy. I wonder if that opinion would change if Oscar doesnt let money win this time.:stir:
Forbes beat the shit out of Hopkins and was on the wrong end of one of the most wrong decisions of the past decade.
1. Tito's punch has proven all but ineffective at 160 and up. 2. I highly doubt it would take much "persuasion" for Forbes to want to fight De La Hoya. You've known the sport for long enough to know that it's a business as well as a sport, and the agreements and arguments, and 'calling outs' that are made public do not necessarily reflect the true nature of the fight. 3. True. But as of recently I would rate Tito and Forbes similarly in their respective weight classes / 160 and 147 / Lower top 10. 4. I highly doubt Tito was taller than Roy. It sure didn't look that way. Roy is easily 2 or 3 weight classes larger than Tito, and he carried him.... If you can get past the "name" value of the fighters, DLH - Forbes is not worse than Roy - Tito.
People don't care enough to be mad at Roy Jones in this regard because the fights have little significance, and they don't get in the way of any fights of big significance from happening. The (serious, not casual) boxing fans want to see Mayweather-Cotto, but both of them would end up in the ring fighing Oscar before fighting each other because of the money. And Oscar and Richard were saying, "well if Oscar can't fight Mayweather, he'll fight Cotto". Oscar is just doing what most fighters (or working people for that matter) do and tries to make as much money as possible so it's not like he's doing something sinister or terrible. But for the fights that are more relevant to occur, it would be better if he just stuck to promoting, or at least to his own division of junior middleweight.
Yeah, that was a bit selective on Reed's part...that was one of the worst decisions of the year...a bit overshadowed later on by Casamayor-Santa Cruz, but heavily criticized at the time. Forbes is solid fighter, and it's not like he's been that far off from the catch-weight their proposing of 150...that's right around the weight he fought Contender guys like Brewer and Bundrage at. Granted, they're both marginal talents and he didn't even beat Brewer, but at least he's been near the weight. It's still an intentional mismatch and a horrible fight in terms of competitiveness, but I think Forbes is at least a more credible opponent at the made up weight limit of 150 than Malignaggi.
1. Huh???:dunno: ...Did U SEE Tito vs Joppy or Tito vs Cherifi???...Even Bernard TESTIFIED to Tito's POWER @ 160, which is why he RESPECTED him til he Wore him Down.... 2. The POINT is, Roy Jones WASN'T Pursuing Tito Trinidad...Tito & his Peeps CALLED OUT Roy...It's NOT Like Forbes was Beating the Drum for a DeLa Fight...The Opportunity was Presented & Forbes JUMPED on it... 3. Tito was an ELITE Welterweight, Jr. Middleweight AND Middleweight, Hence his Inclusion N the Middleweight UNIFICATION Tourney...Forbes has NEVER been Mistaken for an ELITE Fighter N ANY Weight Class:nono: ... 4. Have U NOT SEEN their Numerous Stare down Pics???...They were Eye-to-Eye @ WORST...N Some Pics, Tito was even Slightly TALLER...HBO Listed BOTH of their Heights as 5'11.... Forbes-DeLa is MUCH Worse...w/Roy-Tito, there was @ Least an OUTSIDE Chance that Tito could KO Roy...N The Case of Forbes-Dela, there's NO Conceivable WINNING Scenario for the Guy Moving Up N Weight... REED
4 the Sake of CLARITY... REED Pointed Out SEVERAL Posts Ago that he had SEEN Hopkins-Forbes (on the Barrera-Marquez Undercard)... YES, Forbes was Robbed...But the LOSS on his Record is STILL There...How Does a Robbery to Hopkins Make Forbes Any More of an ATTRACTIVE Option for DeLa???... REED:dunno:
Add to that the fact that it was a DLH promoted card and a DLH promoted fighter that robbed Forbes. Then again, maybe it was all pre-arranged and Forbes is being "paid back" by getting this payday. Shady stuff IMHO.
I can guarantee delahoya will look like shit in this fight. when has delahoya EVER looked impressive vs a slick black guy? even when he was an active fighter he always looked shitty vs those opponents
He's looked like shit vs the likes of Whitaker, Floyd, Shane, and Carr. Forbes isnt on the level of any of those guys. If Oscar doesnt stop Forbes within 6 rounds, he should hide in his PR home and NEVER come out again.
