We are a month into the new year, and we have finally got the 'fight of the has-beens' out of the way (though by all accounts it was better than certainly I expected). So now we can look forward to the New Year opcorn: In 2007, it is arguable that guys like Pavlik, Haye, Dawson, Calzaghe and Cotto stepped from the middle regions of their division and walked the well-trodden path from 'potential' to 'the man' (albeit PBF at 147 would be the choice of many). All of these guys fought their way to prominence in their respective divisions. Whose up next for 2008? I'm looking to see Amir Khan (chinny but impressive again last time out and looking more and more like he could mean business), Paul Williams (I know he's a belt holder but there are bodies currently above him) and Junior Witter (especially if Hatton proves to be a spent force) step up to the mark and make statements this year. Who are you guys going with? :dunno: MTF
N 2008... 1. Kelly Pavlik will PROVE he's a BONAFIED Mainstream, PPV Star...After Beating Taylor on PPV, REED Thinks Pavlik will have a Summer PPV Against a Marketable "Name" like Tito Trinidad...Then MTV, Jay Leno & Other Mainstream Entities will ALL Want a Piece of Pavlik... 2. 1 of the Peterson Brothers (Probably Lamont)will B on the Doorstep to a Title Shot... 3. Andre Berto will Fight a Top 10 Welterweight Name like a Zab Judah... REED
Unlike the last few years, the first half of this year will clearly define the 2nd half of the year. We don't have options for that many major fights. A lot of major matchups have been made and we are looking for new stars.
It's time for the 2004 Olympians to...it appears Alexander Povetkin will. Andre Berto will probably step up, and it's past time for Andre Ward and Vicente Escobedo to do so.
Wlad is in a Unification bout soon. He needs to win that, obviously, if he does then we have ourselves that bit closer to unification at 200+ Enzo Mac and David Haye are that bit closer to stepping up: against each other. Winner is the man at 200-.
And Andre Dirrell. Also, Yuriolkis Gamboa just about took a huge step up against Little Tyson and may get a title shot this year. Marcos Maidana is in line to get a title shot, as well.
Haye stepped up when he beat Mormeck... ...and when he beats Enzo in a classic in March, you will STILL owe me 20 big ones OC  opcorn:
Who is the best of the 2004 Olympians, in your opinion? Where do you place Khan in this MK? opcorn: MTF
I still rate Khan as the best, but can't argue with Gamboa. I sure wish the three newest Cuban defectors had gotten/stayed out. That would have been a windfall for the talent pool.
Fights I'd like to see this year. Dela V Cotto Hatton V Pualie/Witter Money V Williams Molitor V De Leon Pavlik V Abraham I want Joe Calzaghe to retire Jones and he does the same with B-Hop
In his "final flurry"....Steve Kim called Andrew Lee, the "next big bust" on the account of his caucasian features :blobbox: .
