dsimon writes: If you were his trainer how would you get him ready? And no Jerky boy sigining his life insurance policy over to you is not a method of preperation! :: I would: 1) Teach him to come in at angles. Watch Frazier and Tyson 2) Teach him to develop less speed and more power to the body. 3) Take him with me to philly when I do my martial arts training and stick him in South Philly for a week with one of Ortho Crusader's rascist rants tacked to his back "Easy kid it says hello from Russia... really"!::
ElTerrible's suggested strategy of "slip his jab and hit him with a 5-punch combination" might work. I don't see Povetkin winning. He gets hit too much and bth Wlad's jab and right cross are accurate, quick and hard as hell. Povetkin is tough and throws good combinations, but his style seems to play straight into Wlad's hands.
I would get him to bend at the waist more not be such a standing straight up target. More head movement. Stop pulling straight back. Get on the inside of Wlad, and work his body. And then I would tell him to promise me that when he gets ktfo, that he should remember that I told him to not take the fight. ::
He can't beat him right now, and though he's now in line for a shot at the title, I think it would be a disservice to him to make that fight (like Grant against Lewis). Povetkin needs to get comfortable going rounds in important fights, and he needs to get hit in the face by some hard punching heavyweights so that he knows he needs to avoid some of those punches. :: He did show a pretty good chin and sturdy legs because he was hit flush with some shots - granted it was Chambers, but the punches were still cleanh - and he showed little visible effects from the punches. One thing is interesting, though, given all the Klitschko opponents who've stated "I'm going to push Klitschko by making him work in the early rounds and then come on strong in the middle/late rounds". Povetkin's actually got a better chance of doing it than most of those opponents, because he has considerably endurance and workrate for a heavyweight. I've also felt that the one place you can continually get to Klitschko is the body...Samuel Peter isn't a fighter that can make much out of that, but Povetkin potentially could.
No way he beats Klit now. However, If he works on defense and gets some more ring experience, he has the tools to make a push for the title in the future.
Just watch. I knew Povetkin was sick before the Chambers fight and he still did pretty good. Byrd, Donald and Chambers are good slick defensive fighters, Wlad is a totally different animal. Povetkin should study what Brock did, angles and head movement will be crucial, work the body and we´ll have a fight on our hands. Povetkin has beaten every fighter he ever faced, he´ll adapt to Klitschko. He just needs to get out of the early rounds. :stir:
dsimon writes: You bitches act like Vlad is all that. Fact is when you LOOK at how Peter has done since his fight with Vlad it gives a bit of perspective. Could Potvkin beat Peter?:dunno: If Povkin can get in and toughen up he may be able to threaten Klitschko and shut up Dim regarding amateurs once and for all!
Doesn't even have a remote chance in hell at this stage!! Maybe when Vlad is at the tail end of his career, but no way can he do it now!!
dsimon writes: Basically Peter fought really well once in his career against top op. The second Toney fight. He was in the best shape of his career. So, we know what peter could do but... when he fought Vlad and since that second Toney fight he has looked very ordinary. Very ordinary yet he was competative with Vlad and even had him down. My point is that the Peter victory in retrospect is not all that. Again would it suprise if Potvkin beat Peter for example? I would bet he would frankly.
I actually give Povetkin a legitimate shot with Wlad. He needs to smother Klitschko and stay buried on his chest. It's obvious Povetkin can push a pace that Wlad wouldn't be comfortable with. Unfortunately the big question is what happens when Povetkin gets tagged with a big shot from Wlad. I didn't like the way Alexander reacted to the relatively light right hands that Chambers hit him with. No matter how well Povetkin follows a strategy, he will get hit at some point. Personally I don't think he stands up to Wlad's shots over the long haul.
I would get him more experance. No way he's ready for Klitschko yet. Those that think his win over Chambers is the proof he's ready really need help. Chambers, Brock, and even the used up, inactive Byrd have no right being near a title. Povetkin proved he's better than them, so what! Additionally fighting three featherfisted guys like Chambers, Byrd and Donald over in his new backyard will leave him very suprised when he gets hit with a real top heavyweight bomb like Klitschko has. I like Povetkin and think he's a good prospect, but I do not think he had the preparation or the experiance needed to take the belt just yet.
Sorry, but Povetkin Looked Pretty Fucking AVERAGE to REED... Granted, this was REED's 1st time EVER Seeing Povetkin, but that Fight was More about what Chambers DIDN'T Do (Show Up N SHAPE, Throw MORE Punches)than what Povetkin DID do... Chambers had Povetkin Looking VERY AMATUERISH N the 1st 3-4 Rounds...& if he had ANY Power Whatsoever, he'd have @ Least DROPPED Povetkin... Wlad KILLS Povetkin... Povetkin WON'T B Able to Get INSIDE Wlad's Jab & a Handful of Right Crosses is All it'll Take to Make it a SHORT Night... Wlad KO 5 REED
So you don't think it had anything to do with how Povetkin made him fight and settled in the fight? He has always done better as fights have progressed. I agree completely with your take about Wlad-Povetkin though
Not Much... Povetkin was BUSIER than Chambers, but Chambers LACK of "Fire", LACK of "Passion" Stood Out MORE than Anything Else (Other than his Love Handles:: )... He'd Stand Flat-Footed N Front of Povetkin, Retreat 1nce Povetkin Fired, Block Most of the Shots w/his Arms, Offer NO Reply then Walk Back to Povetkin w/Out Throwing ANYTHING... THAT was the Pattern of the Entire 2nd Half of the Fight... It's HARD to Look GOOD Against Chambers, so REED Won't Hold ONE Fight Against Povetkin...But it'd B VERY Foolish of his Management to Take Wlad Now... Perhaps Sometime N 2009... REED
dsimon writes: I hear a lot of people saying that Potvokin does not have the power to deal with Klitchko and that is a legitimate critiscism. But come on Klit outboxing Potvokin? :dunno: Klitschko was even frustrated against Brock when Brock could maintain a proper distance and pace during the early part of the fight. If Potvokin turns it into a boxing match and can neutralize the jab..... remember this kid is good defensively in ways you can't necessarily see. And Fast Eddie is well..... fast so getting hit with a few shots is no big deal to the Russian.
To me it looked like Wlad was nervous there. When he got his jab going in the fifth round, Brock had no chance anymore. You make an interesting point, but I don't think Povetkin can overcome the reach disadvantage and the jab to outbox Wlad. He will go after him and run into that right cross
A good start for Povetkin would be to learn how to get out of the way of a straight right hand. Chambers was landing some nice straight rights and it's a good thing for Povetkin that Chambers can't crack an egg. Wlad is going to hurt this guy.
I think people need to keep in mind that this was Povetkin's 15th pro fight. Chambers has had twice as many fights having been a pro for twice as many years (despite being younger). Chambers is hard to look good against because he keeps his hands right in front of his face, so Povetkin kept trying to punch around his guard...which is why Chambers' face was so marked up on the outside of his eye.
Brock was only good at making it difficult for Klitschko to land, outside of some body punching Brock did very little of his own offensively in that fight and once Klitschko got going with his left the fight was over.
He's fighting a title eliminator though, he's not even close to ready for a fight with Wlad. If he thought Chambers was a tough fight, I wonder what he'll think once he wakes up after the Wlad fight. ::
get him to leave Germany for once in his life, come to LA or Vegas or like Dsimon said, Philly.. he needs some REAL training.. not some Euro crap
If Povetkin came to America and worked on a more American style, we might be looking at something decent. You've got to remember that Povetkin has 15 fights. 15 fucking fights!!!! And he already fought Byrd and Chambers.
well.. I don't know.. for me, oylimpic boxing and ammy's is SOOO different from Pro that it does not always matter.. but if he comes and trains, it will help his bitch ass now for sure
