This is the first time I've seen those fights (yes, it's true... I don't get Showtime :dunno:  ). I was wondering, did anyone else think Marquez looked a step slower and his punches looked less sharp in the second fight than in the first fight? And did anyone else think Marquez looked a little soft around the middle in the second fight? I was wondering if there was any talk of Marquez being out of shape or struggling to make weight for that fight. Also, despite the convincing nature of Vazquez's win in the second fight, I wouldn't be surprised to see Marquez come back and beat him in the third. I think Marquez is the more well-rounded and versatile fighter, and I think he has the better potential to make adjustments, whereas the best Vazquez can fight is the way he fought last time... and even then, despite the fact that he was so successful, he still was busted up bad and probably on the verge of being stopped on cuts himself, when he forced the stoppage. I think Marquez may have underestimated Vazquez a bit in the second fight... he probably thought he could control him from the outside again just like he did in the first fight, and wasn't ready for an all-out rush from Vazquez. I think in the third fight, he'll be mentally/physically braced for it this time, and so he'll have a much better chance of fending it off and then establishing a long range fight.
nah. i think vazquez's adjustments in the second fight will be every bit as effective in the third. and it's not like marquez didn't land plenty of sick shots in the second fight - it just wasn't enough.
I did. Seems to me in wasn't in nearly the conditioning he had been in their first match up. Maybe he underestimated Vasquez after the way the first fight ended, or perhaps his wife being pregant had some kind of effect on his training? :dunno: Either way, after round one of the rematch you can notice Marquez with a concerned look on his face and breathing very heavily. Right then and there watching it live, I just knew he was on his way to getting stretched. Money well spent I see.
There is no doubt that Vaz was better in the second fight and Raffy was better in the first. From a preparation standpoint, that fact is even MAGNIFIED. Marquez came in less prepared in the second fight while Vazquez came in more prepared and ready. IMHO, the Marquez of the second fight is a good level below the first fight. He was slower, easier to hit and just didn't look as ready as the first time. He is more skilled and more versatile...and I see him carving up and busting up Vaz en route to a mid to late round TKO.
this might be a valid assessment had vazquez not made adjustments of his own. at least a portion of his success must be due to vazquez and what he did, and not marquez. like i said marquez landed tons of hard shots in the rematch - he just didn't bust vazquez's nose as he had in the 1st.
It's a valid assessment nonetheless. Fact is that Marquez was better in the first fight and Vaz better in the second.
The money well spent? Yes. It's time that I have a problem with. You wouldn't believe the list of high profile fights I haven't seen yet.
