Seriously, that was a stupid line of questioning. "Are you gonna cut your gloves like Angelo Dundee?". Douchebag! We're all boxing history nerds here but that shit becomes irrelavent when you're talking to an actual boxer. You're not supposed to turn into a smarmy prick because you know all the title lineages and and the guy you're interviewing doesn't

Bernard just spoke to him like he would if his son just mouthed off to him.

The only "dude" that "b-hop" punked was Sir Henry Cooper, whom he confused with Bert Cooper.

In all fairness Hopkins was being a smartass himself first, and you knew that shit was going wrong after the first question.

True. Problem was the reporter wasn't able to stand up to Hopkins very well, like a Larry Merchant might have been able to and just came up with some lame mythologized tidbit to throw back at B-Hops.

As soon as Hopkins put on his Daddy face, the reporters voice went up a couple octaves and he turned to mush.

True, I've always liked Bernard and have even learned to appreciate the way he fights.

I'll admit, most guys who fight like Bernard I'd be all over their cases but somehow Bernard has a way of making fighting dirty and ugly look too damn good.

It's because he is defying the odds at 43 years old. Winning or being extremely competitive against top caliber fighters at Bernard's age has to be respected. I don't care if he's beating them with his cane.

Yeah, he kinda had his shot, when Bernard asked him whether he thought that was funny. He should have said: Actually I do, Bernard. At that point he could have drawn a smile from Bernard or 25% of his purse.

Bingo! Thats exactly what I noticed. He was looking to unload ont he guy after that. I think Hops really is a bit of a Rascist, I get the sense that he is very intolerant of the Euros. At any rate he had a hard on for that guy from the get go.

Easier said than done... Occasionally reporters fight back but more often than not they have to take shit like this guy did. The guy handled it well, I feel bad for him because it isn't an equal fight. When you get called on something like that then somoene wants to fuck with you... its that simple.

In that situation what can you say? Years ago there was a reporter who got into a fistfight with a football player because he didn't back down. He gained the respect of a lot of people that day and I think it was quite courageous of him frankly. But what is the guy going to do? Bernard holds the cards and you could see by the look on his face that Bernard wanted a fight. Bernard also looked like an idiot ascerting the primacy of his intelligence.

No doubt he was in a tough spot, but Bernard is a cheap bastard, he probably wouldn´t have punched him with no PPV to push.

That reporter sounded like an english version of cupey...dumb questions though, and the cut the gloves crap he should have kept to himself, sounded like he had barely prepared what he was going to ask him
