He fought him tit for tat and then landed a perfect liver shot, which was possibly illegal. Let's bear this in mind when evaluating Quintana and his place in the welterweight division.

Doesn't matter, he beat him conclusively. Is there any question on who wins a rematch? :dunno:

Hell of a body shot that would probably land again.

yes! that's the whole point. cotto has fought dozens of guys he didn't knock out with a liver shot.

i'm not saying quintana wins. but let's not pretend he didn't give cotto problems prior to the ko.

Oh please, Quintana couldn't even last long enough for his stamina issues to matter. Quintana QUIT. Cotto kicked the shit out of him in the last round. Cotto won as conclusively as possible.

I remember being really surprised that Quintana was dominated like that. Didn't the boards start calling him QUITANA?

I'm glad he recovered and that he won. it's good for the division.

Quintana had some good moments in that fight, catching Cotto with some good body shots (some borderline or low), but Cotto took over things in the 5th.

I'll have to watch it again but I think Quintana turned when Cotto landed the left hook to the body, which made it land around the back area.

you don't remember right. quintana won some rounds and gave cotto problems with his angles and south-paw stance.

me too, I really don't know what's the point Double L is trying to make :dunno:

it was no tit for tat, I remember Quintana being nervous and Cotto attcking from the start, not letting him breathe and mauling his face in the process. It was something ugly. I felt bad because i told everyone watching the fight at home that Quintana was a live threat.

He's simply trying to keep Margarito relevant by implying Williams (the guy who beat his new hero) was beaten by a guy that was about to beat Cotto if not for an illegal shot. Typical double L.

I agree. Quintana did manage to hurt Cotto to the body a few times But Cotto kept on coming like a freight train.

Cotto beat the shit out of him. For the most part, that fight was 1 sided.#

You're off your fucking nut Double, as per usual.

Do you adopt the "contrary to popular belief" view just for the sake of it or what?

It was actually pretty incredible he got up after that body shot. That was brutal. There was no way he was going to recover from that.

Cotto clearly won round 1. A case can be made for either man in rounds 2 through 4. Meaning, it was 3-1 Cotto or at worse 2-2 going into the 5th. The 5th round was all Cotto, obiviously. He confused Quintana by switching up his attack and kicked the shit out of him in that round. The KO punch was legit the GIF may not show, but on the video you can clearly see the area where the punch landed by the way Quintana's skin ripples.

so you're saying 2-2 going into the 5th is "dominating" on the part of Cotto?

obviously, the ultimate result is that Cotto knocked Quintana out, and proved he was the better man.

my agument is simply that prior to that shot to the liver/back, he was not in control of the fight, and arguably not even winning it.

some might think that's a meaningless point, that isn't even worth acknowledging. I say it is when you consider that Cotto has worked the body with great commitment against every fighter he's faced, and only a small percentage of them have been knocked out/stopped by single shots to the liver. What is my point? My point is, the idea that Cotto would land a body shot right on the sweet spot every time he fights Quintana is ludicrous. and this fact allows for the possibility that Quintana could enjoy far greater success if he were to face Cotto again.

maybe had it gone 10-12 rounds..and the fight was close....then it might be meaningful point....but after only 5 rounds? and Round 5 COTTO completely DOMINATED QUINTANA..turning southpaw..landing every punch...beating Quintana from one side of the ring to the other...:dunno:

Where did I say that? :dunno:

    Yup.

Like I said, round one was a clear Cotto round. Rounds 2 through 4 were close. But to give Quintana all of those rounds is a stretch. After the first 4 rounds no man had established dominace. However, the 5th round is a different story. Cotto was in clear control and dominated Quintana for a well over half of the round and a good minute prior to the body shot. He was landing virtually every punch he threw. Quintana barely got off in that round save a straight left he landed early.

This is almost as stupid as those who say "Judah won HALF THE FIGHT against Tszyu". You continue to out-do yourself, Double L. Congrats.

The minute Cotto got his groove going he pretty much ran Quintana out of the ring, how's that not domination? The rest of the time they fought on almost even terms and IMHO Cotto was slightly on top. You talk as if it was a come from behind KO from an illegal shot. That's bullshit. Especially considering it was a 5 round fight.

It depends on who throws it, if it's a fighter that is ranked above one of Double L's favourite, it's illegal.
