...During the Pavlik-Taylor countdown. I saw Jermaine shadow boxing (only a few seconds of footage). Taylor threw a few punches, then he was blocking the (imaginary jab) with his right hand. Now why is this interesting? Well, as most of us know Kelly sets everything up with the jab.....and the only shot jermain has in this fight is to eliminate Kelly's very effective jab. Maybe the Taylor camp believes that Jermain cannot move his head enough to stay away from that jab, and instead try to block it (with his right hand) and then counter. At least they seem to have done some of their homework. I think Taylor is going to try to move a bit, but still engage Kelly....trying to do a ROUND 2 on him the entire time. Knowing Jermain, even if he's successful with stopping Pavlik's jab, he'll lose focus and STILL WALK INTO A RIGHT HAND. Pavlik KO mid rounds still.....in a fight that will be exciting while it lasts.
This COULD B the Case, but like U Said, Taylor would STILL Walk N 2 the Right Hand... Some Guys Use their Jab to Pile Up POINTS, but Pavlik Uses his Jab as a RANGE FINDER... If he's Close Enough where Jermain can Pick it Off w/his Gloves, he's Close Enough to CLOCK Jermain w/a Right Hand... REED Thinks Pavlik Wins EARLIER, but REED Also Thinks Taylor will have a "Moment" Again...REED Thinks he'll BUZZ or STAGGER Pavlik w/Out Dropping him... Then Pavlik will AGAIN Weather the Storm & Take Taylor OUT... REED
I tend to think that you are right. Taylor will probably feel that his best chance, again, is to come out all guns blazing. Pavlik brings too much forward pressure for Jermaine to fight effectively off the back foot against him, and so Taylor knows he has to come out swinging again, this time finishing his man if/when he gets him hurt as he did last time (due to Kelly's showboating) The problem is, Kelly almost certainly has too many guns for him. Should be another exciting fight though... opcorn:
doesn't matter if he blocks it or not. it's not the landing of Pavlik's jab that makes him effective, but rather it's ability to set up his right hand. his jab is a feint of sorts. if Taylor were halfway decent at fighting inside, then he'd have a chance. but he's not. therefore, he will lose. come to think of it, a guy like Lacy, or Andrade, guys who can fight inside, would fare much better against Pavlik than Taylor ever will. if i had to bet, Lacy will be gunning for a chance to fight Pavlik. that's a fight he could win.
:: Your stupidity never ends. Lacy wouldn't stand a chance against Pavlik, just like he didn't stand a snowball's chance in hell against Calzaghe. Lacy simply isn't very good.
You got to remember that a jab is also used to move someone's head into a position that you want it to be in so you can land the right hand. It's important for timing. Taylor poking it away could keep things at his pace. Still, shadowboxers always pretend to slap away a jab, even fighters that never do it. Taylor actually did slap jabs away, we just don't see it as often because he usually wins the jabbing contest.
I agree with this somewhat....however, a hard, stiff jab like Pavlik's can stiff up your neck and back, cause swelling over the eyes, cause breathing problems by keeping your nose bleeding, and also blind you for the right hand as it lands. And most of all getting hit repeatedly with that jab can drain the fight out of you. Landing the jab gives a huge advantage to Pavlik.
well can you at least agree with the principle of my argument, which is that in order to beat Pavlik you need to be adept at fighting inside (which Taylor is not - all he does inside is hold)? by the way, you're stupid to compare Pavlik to Calzaghe.
Not really, sure they differ in style, but I think Pavlik is closer to Calzaghe's level of formidable-ness than he is to Lacy's level :: Pavlik is a better technical fighter than given credit for, he's also very accurate, very powerful, and just a great 1-2 fighter like Monzon. I think to beat Pavlik you're going to have to be VERY slippery and crafty, the opposite of Lacy. Lacy would get absolutely crushed. If you want to see how Pavlik vs Lacy would play out, simply watch Pavlik Vs Miranda, it would look VERY similar.
nowhere have i said Pavlik is not a good technical fighter. did you ever watch Monzon's fights with Griffith? the way to combat a guy with a good 1-2 is to get close to him and make him fight inside. what's apparent to me is that you won't agree with me on anything. instead, you change the subject to something you don't agree with me about. that says to me that you're a complete waste of my time to discuss anything with. i ask you if you think fighting Pavlik inside is the key to beating him, and you lecture me on how Pavlik's technical skills are overlooked? do me a favor. don't bother responding to anything i say, and i'll do you the same. agreed?
agREED... It would Take a SPEEDY, MOBILE, ATHLETIC, SKILLED Sort that Can PUNCH a Bit, to Beat Pavlik...A PRIME Roy Jones from 160-168 would B a Stylistic NIGHTMARE for Pavlik... Lacy's Toooooooo AVAILABLE to B Hit... REED
you won't find me insulting anyone. i'm content simply to voice my opinions on boxing. it's the punks on this board with fractured egos and no prospects that resort to personal insults.
wrong? little ass Manfredo was being competitive vs. LACY....::..and he was hardly throwing punches...
what? the topic is what style of fighter will befuddle Pavlik. it's not a pot-shotter. it's a guy like Hagler, or Duran, or even Barkley. A guy who will walk through the fire and be insulated from the long range 1-2. It's not to say Pavlik can't fight inside, but inside he's not the assassin he is with his 1-2 from the outside.
both styles could befuddle Pavlik.....half the people here underestimate Pavlik..the other half overated him... Prime Jones/Hopkins two different styles would tear Pavlik apart....
hopkins i'll give you - his stink, stamina and durability would probably prevail. rjj? i'm not so sure. rjj is an over-rated as far back as 98. he was only ever about as 75% as good as people claim he was. a tall, long armed 1-2 guy like pavlik, as people are calling him, is exactly the style to befuddle rjj's terrified pot-shotting style.
:: substance abuse has rendered your mind incapable of properly analyzing boxing matches. a young roy jones jr would defeat pavlik swiftly and decisively. robotic taylor had him all but out.
You've reached an all time low. A prime Roy would give Pavlik the business! Kelly is entirely too slow, easy to hit, and vunerable in the chin to beat a young Roy.
Beat me to it. Double has let his hate of Roy blind his judgement. Pavlik is tailor made for a young Roy. If anyone has a chance of beating a young Roy its a counterpunching southpaw, either that or a power puncher with a great chin like G-man. Kelly doesnt fit into either one of these areas. Jones would tag him at will, and Pavlik's chin wouldnt stand up to Roy's bombs. If Taylor somehow beats Pavlik on Saturday, I'm sure Double will be telling us that Taylor beats a prime Roy as well.
Somehow a 6' Olympian with a genuine middlweight frame and sound fundamentals is considered puny in comparison to the raw force that was Roy Jones Jr.
One more thing I want to add, is that regardless of who you think will win this fight....Taylor is coming back waay too soon from a devastating KO. Remember Roy Jones- Glen Johnson?
Well......I've said all that I have to say in this thread....thanks for the input. I am going to be creating a dvd of the entire pay per view card, plus the first fight & the countdown....if any one is going to be interested, I normally sell the dvd's very cheap. I pay for the shipping, so I normally don't make too much off the dvd's. Just enough to buy more blanks. Peace
When the hell did I call Pavlik puny? Kelly is a HELLUVA fighter, but he doesnt matchup well with a prime Jones at all. Kelly's weaknesses are his defense, and his less than great chin. Both would be exposed brutally by a prime Jones. Roy hit alot faster, harder, and more accurately than Taylor, and wouldnt let Kelly off the hook after getting him on queer street. A young Jones stops Pavlik inside of 5-6 rounds.
