Just think 2008 was on par to compete against 2007. But with this fight and the DLH/PBF rematch 2008 is taking a step backwards. I'll Holla 5000

    Cotto-Mayorga talks!

    Tuesday, February 12 2008

    By Gabriel F. Cordero

Former world champion Ricardo Mayorga claims he has inked a deal with DKP for a July 19 title challenge against WBA welterweight champion Miguel Cotto to take place at a site in the United States. In that bout, the always entertaining "El Matador" promised to KO Cotto "in three or four rounds." Mayorga also revealed that he considered a fight with Shane Mosley, but said the offer from Golden Boy Promotions wasn't sufficient to motivate him to accept the fight. Top Rank has confirmed discussions in regard to Cotto-Mayorga, but nothing is finalized at this moment. In the meantime, Cotto has to get past Alfonso Gomez on April 12.

I'd rather see Gomez beat Cotto than Mayorga get another big fight.

Mayorga is a pendejo for not taking the Mosley fight. I don't care if Arum promised him a fight with Cotto which I doubt. He should take whatever big fight he is offered.

If Cotto and Margarito win on April I don't see how they don't face each other next.:dunno:

That's the fight ARum has been trying to make for the longest. This double header in April is the second one with those two setting up their fight.

Unless Cintron or Gomez pulls the upsed I don't see Arum changing his plans.

So Mayorga is an idiot if he was offered something from Goldenboy and didn't accept so he can hopefully land a Cotto fight

    Mayorga should fight Forrest again.

Their rematch was so bad that I never wanted to see a third match.

But at 154 is more realistic than Mayorga trying to make 147

I gotta disagree about the first part. I enjoyed the rematch. The third fight would be entertaining as well. Forrest legitmately wants to destroy Mayorga. He's gonna fight him. And Vern will beat his ass cause despite beating the ghost of Vargas, Mayorga is still washed up.

Mayorga is a bigger star then Margarito and this fight will give him a better shot at getting a fight with Money Mayweather.

No he is not. Besides Cotto should not be taking steps backwards in competition at this stage.

Fighting Gomez is bad enough for a tune up. Fighting Margarito in a unification fight would make more sense than fighting Mayorga who is past his prime and losses everytime he steps up.

And no fighitng VArgas was not a step up for Mayorga.

Cotto is not some unknown fighter who needs a big name to fight. He just beat Mosley for gods sake.

Fighting Mayorga should be the only option if nobody else is available.

The double header in April is supposed to set up the winners.

Besides, why would Arum wanna deal with Don King when he promotes both Cotto and Margarito?

No he's not? Are you kidding me, Mayo is more well known and liked than Margarito by far.

He's fought Oscar, Tito and Vargas.

What high profile fight has Marge had? Cintron? Williams?

He's draw used to be a bad ass who kod Forrest.

Now he is just known as a loud mouth guy who gets stretched when he stepd up.

this is all irrelevant anyway. My point is I don't see how Arum takes that fight over Margarito if both Cotto and Margarito win on April. He's been trying to make that fight for a while.

can Mayorga even make 147?

I also think it's stupid that Mayorga turn down the Mosley fight.

sure he is popular but he is not DLH either. it's not like he can pick and choose any big fight he wants. that's why he fought a shot Vargas almost at supermiddleweight.
