Tank is a bum, but his movement was great as you said. But I disagree about Ken Shamrock. IMO, Shamrock is the perfect test. He has the skill and yes he is close to being shot. Ken will definitely try and take it to the ground. If Kimbo can't keep it on their feet against Ken then we all know he will never have a chance. If he does, then we know he's legit.
Here's a crappy video of the Edwards\Berto KO from last night with some douchebag giving a lecture on it. <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/tWEx7M4epQ8&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/tWEx7M4epQ8&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object> TFK
A choppy video of Smith\Noke. Hell of a KO, but the quality of the video sucks. <div><object width="420" height="336"><param name="movie" value="http://www.dailymotion.com/swf/x4eh8f&v3=1&related=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.dailymotion.com/swf/x4eh8f&v3=1&related=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="420" height="336" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always"></embed></object><br /><b><a href="http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x4eh8f_scott-smith-vs-kyle-noke_sport">Scott Smith vs Kyle Noke</a></b><br /><i>Uploaded by <a href="http://www.dailymotion.com/Princenino">Princenino</a></i></div> TFK
I was watching the prelim fights on proelite.com and there was a heavyweight who kept hanging on to that single leg, just like Berto is doing there, and I wondered why his opponent just didnt let loose with the knee....I can understand if you're afraid to get taken down, because if you miss, you're on your back so when Berto grabbed onto Edwards like that, i told my roomate, with 10 seconds left, fuck it, you gotta let that flying knee rip, and BANG!...fight was over....Great finish
Of all the fights on the card, this was my favorite. Smith couldn't get close in the 1st round. Coming out for the 2nd Smith was just determined to get close no matter what. But damn, the first combination he throws knocks Noke into next month. I really dug the ref tackling Smith off of Noke and giving Noke a knee to the throat in the process.
Shamrock used to be really great with those kneebars and heelhooks. Bas Rutten STILL has a bad knee from his second fight with Ken in Pancrase...at least I think it was the second. The first one, Ken got the rear-naked choke on him, and in the second fight, Ken got that kneebar that made Rutten scream. No doubt Rutten will be warning Kimbo about the leg submissions and coaching him to stay away from them.
alot of leg locks come out of scrables and when a guy is standing over a downed opponent....Kimbo probably wont wannt come anywhere near that close to Ken on the ground, and I really dont think Ken would be able to impose his will to get close enough to Kimbo to take him down....not without getting knocked out anyway
I see it the same way. Ken is also a little small, in comparison, to have much success getting Kimbo to the ground against his will. Amazing how just a few months ago most on here were predicting that Kimbo would be exposed by Ray Mercer. "Mercer could beat him with his jab alone" was my favorite quote.
Damn, I checked back, and I was one of the people who picked Mercer, by 'Brutal KO'. Half of the threads on this forum have disappeared over the past year, and the Kimbo\Mercer thread can't be one of them? TFK
I didnt hold out much hope for Kimbo either....Truth is, he really hasnt proven shit yet....BUT, I didnt expect back then that he'd hook up with Bas and the boys...I think its time Kimbo gets some sort of a test, but I dont have a problem with him fighting a Shamrock and/or Gannon before jumping in with the big boys
I disagree slightly. I think he's definitely proven that he's willing to put the work in to be a legit MMA combatant. I also think he's proven to be a formidable striker. To call his competition suspect would be an understatement, but he has shown quick, short punches that have some pop. The dude is also intimidating as hell. I generally considered Tank Abbott skillless and void of any real fighting talent, but I also think he is a genuine tough guy. Kimbo scared the piss out of him. Regardless of whether anyone wants to join me on the Kimbo bandwagon or not doesn't matter. What really matters is that Gary Shaw and EliteXC have a handful of marketable guys and Kimbo is near the front of that pact. His image and popularity is going to propel EliteXC.
I agree with what you say....but I still dont think thats saying a whole lot about what Kimbo has proven I think it shows he has potential, which is more than what many of us would have suggested a year ago...thats good enough
Yeah, I will be the second for that record. Unless TFK saying that Shamrock is just as shot as Tank(which he isn't) is seconding it, it that's the case then I'm thirding the record.
Come on man, Ken Shamrock is shot as fuck...even gay ass Tito Ortiz rapes him left and right now. :dunno:
Tito Ortiz beats 85% of all LtHW in the world. Ken is shot, but comparing him to Tank is stupid.
Did you see Ken Shamrock get KO'd by a weak ass punch by some guy nobody's ever heard of tonight? He's not shot as shot as Tank? TFK
