http://www.mmaweekly.com/absolutenm/templates/dailynews.asp?articleid=5715&zoneid=13 Chuck Liddell is set to return to action on June 7 as the former light heavyweight champion has officially signed to face Mauricio “Shogun†Rua at an as of yet unofficially announced event in London, England. Liddell confirmed the fight to MMAWeekly.com on Saturday evening. Earlier this month, MMAWeekly.com reported that Rua had signed a contract to fight “The Iceman†in May or June, and now Liddell has confirmed he has accepted the fight and signed the contract, although he stated the fight would take place June 7 as opposed to the previously reported June 14 date. Liddell is coming off of a win over Rua’s former teammate, Wanderlei Silva, in December. With a win over “Shogun,†he may find himself back to No. 1 contender’s status in the 205-pound division. After the purchase of Pride by Zuffa, the owners of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, there was much anticipation for Rua to make his debut in the Octagon, but his welcome was short-lived, as Forrest Griffin submitted him in his first fight in the Octagon. The bout between Liddell and Rua is expected to be the main event on the card. Although no official announcement has been made by the UFC about the event, welterweight Marcus Davis previously stated to MMAWeekly.com that he believed he would also be on the same show in England. Something tells me that a 3rd fight with Rampage is exactly what Chuck wants. Unfortunately, I think Chuck is the only that wants it.
Hope & Pray that Rampage LOSES the Title, then Fight Whoever is the Reigning Champ???:dunno: .... Liddell was TENTATIVE N the 2nd Fight w/Rampage, yet he STILL got KO'ed Early... He has NATHAN to Hang his Hat on, NATHAN to Garner the LEAST Bit of Confidence from, to Take N 2 a 3rd Fight w/Rampage... REED
I agree. Rampage just has Liddell's number. Straight up. Liddell should just focus on other things, Rampage is his kryptonite.
I have no desire to see a 3rd Rampage\Chuck fight, though a Chuck\Forrest fight would do huge numbers. If I were the UFC, I'd keep Liddell away from any title shots. He doesn't need to be champ to be a draw, and his fights don't need to be title fights to sell PPV's. Keep Liddell in big fights with the likes of Wandy and Shogun, and let the rest of the stacked 205 division fight it out for the title. TFK
Good fight, both are recent losers, but still legit contenders. Good fight to trim up the fat at LTHW. I would love to see Griffin get a shot at Rampage. It is just a brutal classic waiting to be made.opcorn:
