Fuck you. That fight last night made Oscar - Tito look exciting. And it made Oscar - Floyd look like Hagler - Hearns. Fuck even Lewis was a hell of a lot more exciting than Wlad.
REED is a Wlad Fan, but Last Night was just AWFUL... That Fight SUCKED the Life OUT of REED...Prior to the Bout, REED was Looking Forward to a Night of Posting, Discussing the Bout...But that Plan was NIXED After 12 of the Most UNeventful Rounds REED has Seen N Awhile:doh: ... The Only Bit of GENUINE Aggression Wlad Exhibited was N the Way he Slapped Away Ibragimov's Southpaw Jab... By the 7th or 8th, Ibragimov was THERE for the Taking, Wlad was just RELUCTANT to Do it... REED REALLY Appreciated Manny Steward's HONESTY w/Wlad, N the Latter Rounds... REED
It was terrible! Wlad had every advantage in power, height, weight, and reach. Was connecting Sultan all night. I can understand Sultan fighting at a distance but not Wlad. Hell, even Steward was pissed at him at the end of the fight. Sure Wlad won the fight easy but he did just enough to keep him away. He never once tried to hurt him.
Yeah, Wlad was definately too passive in the fight. I really wanted him to let loose with that right hand more. The 2 times he did, Sultan would have gone down if not saved by the ropes, and the other time he was saved by the bell. But... You can't win every fight by KO.
I love all of these idiots coming out of the woodwork saying that Wlad is now a boring fighter after ONE DECISION WIN. This is just stupid. Wlad has been one of the most exciting fighters for over 50 fights and now that he wins one boring decision he is labeled a "boring fighter"?? Fairweather boxing fans kill me.
I wouldn't call him a "boring fighter" in general. However we're talking about the fight that happened last night because, well it happened last night. Should everyone pretend it didn't happen and concentrate on past fights that have no relevance to yesterday?
I couldn't believe it. It's not even like it looked like he was having a bad night, or was lethargic etc. He looked perfectly sharp and focused. And let's face it, sultan was completely overmatched, and can't even punch. Wlad should have stepped it up after round 4, sultan was already looking discouraged. A couple of rounds later, he actually looked less discouraged, when he realized what a pacifist the big man was ::
From what I recall of that fight, perhaps even worse. Partly because Sultan was more there for the taking than Tua, who if nothing else - is a tough little bastard.
Very much alike that fight, though in there Tua at least walked forwards while Sultan walked backwards. However we have seen worse title fights recently. Byrd-Williams, Ruiz-Oquendo, Briggs-Sultan, Briggs-Lyakovich were even worse
Probably... w/Lennox-Tua, there was the EXPECTATION that Tua COULD Hurt Lennox or that Lennox Might HURT Tua...There was a Genuine PERCEPTION that Both Men Could Get KO'ed... w/Wlad-Ibragimov, there was Only ONE Guy who was Gonna Get HURT & that was Ibragimov... Also, Lennox Fired his Right Hand MUCH More (vs Tua), than Wlad did... Wlad-Ibragimov was a Bit WORSE, but it would Take a BRAVE Man to REwatch Both of those, to Verify... REED::
That was very bad, but last night was even worse. As someone else has pointed out, Lewis fought Tua like that because Tua was a tough and dangerous little bastard. Sultan last night looked ready for a lie down any time after the fourth round. He couldn't have hit/hurt Wlad with a shotgun... Last night's fight was horrible. A perfect cure for insomnia.
That's what made the fights watchable when they happened. That is why Byrd-Williamson or Sultan-Briggs were even worse: they were as slow fights and it was obvious neither could do anything dramatic
I thought about inviting some buddies over (casual boxing fans thanks to me) and having a small fight party. Thank god I decided against that and postponed it until next week for Vasquez/Marquez III. I would have been embarassed showing this to my friends. Thank god for the "feather fisted midgets."
It was a dreadful fight. The current heavyweight division is the worst that I've ever seen it and I've been a boxing fan for quite a while. The 80's were much more interesting compared to now...and I've never been a fan of that decade. And unfortunately Wlad is apparently not the fighter to make folks excited about the heavies/
