No, I agree Pavlik took it easy and really kinda blew it. Jermain is still not impressive and we can only hope he'll leave boxing and maybe sell cars or something
yeah.. he seems like a good kid.. probably do well at it, I think he should work for Ford or Chevy though.. not honda or Toyota.. I don't see him selling rice.. he's a good american kid.. put him in a ford dealer and let him sell F150's all day..
i''m sick of dim-wits writing off fighters because they happened to lose one fight, or had an off night, using terms like exposed, and even "shot" when it doesn't apply. these are the people who started liking boxing because of Tyson i guarantee you - so their prototypical all-star fighter is an invnicible killing machine who couldn't possibly be taken the distance by a bum, let alone lose to one. lo and behold, of course, it happened. but that didn't change their definition of or notion of what a great fighter is. and it's these fans, along with some other factors, that are to blame for many of the great fights that could happen that never will. HBO is also a huge cuplprit in this because they put such massive emphasis on a fighter's record, and even feel the need to make excuses for losses of fighters they feature ontheir netowrk - as if they'd prefer to feature only undefeated fighters. like that would somehow make their programming better.
yiou're nuts. you'll see in taylor's next fight just how good pavlik is, and that taylor isn't "that" far behind. it's just plain stupid to suggest that an olympian boxer, with wins over Wright and Hopkins, to leave boxing at age 29. i couldn't believe my ears when the announcer suggested it as a possibility. HBO just wants him to retire so he can't become a commodity for Showtime.
I agree Double bubble.. it is one of the reasons I am a fan of Shane, he has said that before he retires he will probably have 5 mayeb 10 losses on his record because he wants to fight the best and the old fighters fought each other and they got losses but that does not mean you are not great, it probably means you are MORE great
well.. if he looks great in his next fight.. it will really highlight how good Pavlik is.. I guess Taylor can keep going.. as long as he is doing good.. I just think he'd be real good at selling trucks
He didn't beat Wright, and there's questions as to whether he ever beat Hopkins. I thought he was 0-1-1 against Hopkins, and the rematch wasn't really that close on my card (close rounds, but not a close score total). Still, he shouldn't retire. Does he still have the Everlast contract?
I'm sorry Noble, but are you serious with this statement?? Stinky is about as enjoyable to watch as scratching Poison Ivy all over your balls and ass!
What fights of Wright's have been boring? I could name a couple, but it's hardly a career trend. There has damn sure never been a Winky Wright fight as boring as the Litschko fight over the weekend either. So before it's said, it throws out the "Winky isn't a KO puncher!!" argument. Wright brings contact and fights with great skill. Only a mook couldn't value that. Mook.
that's not the point. Whatever happened to fighting the best? so you rather a figther avoid the best fighter availabe because he is boring? are you happy with a face first brawler just cause it's fun even though it doesn't prove a fucking thing?:dunno:
So can you actually form an argument, or are you just going to continue sprouting three year old diabtribe? STINKY!!!11 Wooow.
What? Why the hell would I want to waste my time debating anything Stinky related!! Seriously, debating this shit with you is like debating a teenage girl on what good music is:nono:
Wright is skilled, agressive and throws a lot of punches. he can't punch but he's not typically boring. his fight against Hopkins sucked but that wasn't because of Wright.
Excellent point Double. Just because a guy loses, especially if that guy is a recently dethroned champion, there are always always options for that fighter to prolong and even advance a career. Why, for example, shouldn't Jermain Taylor now move up to a pretty sparse 168 and crack some skulls? I mean, even Edison Miranda is making his way up the rankings there... :dunno: MTF
Some good points made in here among the usual collection of lunacy and ill-informed jibberish... I agree with those who think that Kelly maybe should consider an easy one before he fights another live body like Winky. On the further evidence of Saturday, I really think Kelly should consider getting the 'Duddy Express' into the ring and into hospital next time out. Duddy may in fact be even worse than I initially though (which was not very much to start with) but he's a 'name' and is ranked and has a good fan base in New York. More importantly, I think Kelly would walk through him inside three. Duddy blocks right hands with hsi face, and he would pay DEARLY for this when coming up against Kelly's 1-2 trademark attacks. As for Winky. I've never really been THAT much of a fan, though I appreciate that he is a skilled, experienced fighter with a tough as teak defence and a good left jab. However, I think he is well on the wane, and that his being dominated by Bernard was as much as sign of his decline through age as it was a sign of Hops' longevity. He has lost elements of his footwork which in turn means he less elusive than usual. A fighter with a reasonable jab but no real knock-out power and who stands straight in front of Kelly Pavlik are exactly the kind of cats that suit Kelly to a TEE. I would expect Kelly to dominate the exchanges and pressure throughout, forcing Winky back and reducing Wright's attacking intent to a minimum by constantly throwing those big 1-2 combos to concentrate Wink's mind almost entirely on 'D' and covering up. For that reason, I'd expect Kelly to prevail, but that said, I'd be most impressed if Winky was stopped, as I still think his stout defence and good chin might just allow him to make it to the final bell. Kelly UD MTF opcorn:
I think that it's a brilliant move by Pavlik to publicly accept the challenge so that everyone can see if Winky prices himself out like he apparently did last year.
Jab,.......jab,........jab...........jab........jab...........jab..............jab............jab...................jab :crafty: are you sure he doesn't remind you of someone who fought recently?..
IMO this will be a clost fight Winky has the tools to frustrate Pavlik all night long.. If Kelly can stay busy for the 12 rounds its hard to see anything other than a UD in his favour But this is by no means an easy fight for either guy.
