werd! i hope Forbes could pull it off...but even if by some miracle he wins 8-9 rounds...he will STILL lose the decision....
- Oscar's first fight in L.A. since 2000 when he lost a split decision to Sugar Shane at Staples Center - Oscar's first fight live on HBO since 2001 - the stadium will seat 31,000. Tickets start at $25 and go on sale Tuesday - Oscar says he'll have three fights in 2008, then retire. Forbes, Mayweather Jr. in September and possibly Manny Pacquiao in December - Oscar on reuniting with Floyd Sr. "I want to beat the best. I have to beat the best. I know I can beat the best. I just felt at that time when I was going to go up against Floyd Jr. that Floyd Sr. really wasn’t going to be into it, that he didn’t feel it. He wasn’t going to bring his A game. After a few incidents that happened with Floyd Sr. and Floyd Jr., he convinced me that he will be in my corner, that he will be on my side even though it’s his son, his blood. He tells me, ‘That’s my son, that’s my kid, but he deserves a whuping.’†- Forbes on the fight being billed as De La Hoya's "Homecoming": “Oscar is the biggest name in boxing. I think anywhere we fight it will be his ‘Homecoming.’ When Oscar fights, the seats fill up. I don’t care if we fight in my backyard at my house most of the people would be there for Oscar, including my family probably besides my wife and kids. I mean, it’s great motivation because people want to see a good fight. One thing about Oscar is he’s always fought the best fighters of his era. It’s rare that you see such a dominant face in boxing give a guy a shot. This is like a ‘Rocky’ story. I’ve been shucking away and shucking away and I get to the end of the row and there is something big there. I really appreciate it, but it’s a big motivation.â€
in a perfect world, stevie would somehow STRETCH DLH..:: I hope someone does.. but if he fights Stevie, Floyd, and Pacman he'll win a WIDE dec vs Stevie.. possibly even stop him, (DLH is just much bigger) he'll lose agian to Floyd for sure.. and he'll prolly stop Pacman (once again.. DLH is just too big) why can't his going out be more like "Stevie, Tito, Roy" ::
What is with the hatred for DLH. Are you guys all closet Trinidad fans who are embarassed at how easily he wiped his ass with your boy, or is there some other reason you have disdain for a guy that has been better about "fighting EVERYONE" then just about anybody in history. I mean, yeah he should beat Steve Forbes with a 2 hour camp, but the man hasn't fought a scrub in forever, let him have this one so he can have confidence to get back in with the best before retiring.
Oscar sure as hell did not "wipe his ass" with Tito. If he did, Tito would not have gone 12 rounds and De La Hoya sure as hell wouldn't have been running like a coward the way he did. Oscar needs to retire. He's become a joke now.
I used to really "hate" on him.. I've come around a bit.. but would like to see him stretched still.. the Bernard fight was greatness:: for me in part it comes from as he was coming up, fighting a lot of smaller guys or older guys.. I know everyone coming up fights some bums and some guys on their way out but it seems with Goldy it was more than with others.. I have given him credit, he is a great fighter.. I just never liked him much and always wanna see him lose
yeah he fought everyone a few years ago....but now he just fucking up better matchup that Mayweather can be in...Pretty Boy is waiting for Oscar $$$$ and not fighting Mosley/Cotto/Margarito/Williams....even if the last three have lose recently.... yeah wanting to fight Manny Pacquiao...very brave...of him... if he was really still about fighting the best he would move to 160 and fight PAVLIK....or fight COTTO.....not go another 12 round sparring session with Mayweather....
thank you if you wanna go out with a bang, rematch Hopkins.. or fight Pavlik, Joe C, Tito or ROY! I'd love to see him fight Roy right now.. Roy would DOMINATE him
not really.. Stevie is a good fighter but he really is a lightweight and he is by no means a puncher, yet I don't think he is good enough a boxer to do like Floyd did... he has a VERY slim Chance IMO to out box DLH.. but I mean VERY slim
Floyd couldn't even outbox Oscar. Best he could do was punch gloves and air and hope for the best that the judges would actually think he was landing. I doubt Forbes could even do that much.
I agree. It would look like the Jeff Mayweather fight at 135. And for Joe , Oscar didn't move up from 135 to 140 until 1996 Oscar even weighed in one time as low as 128lbs in 1994
What De La Hoya says and what he does are two different things. He'll have two fights max this year and I would be dissapointed if one of the fights is Mayweather. For them business wise, yes its a good move, but for boxing and the fans I don't know what it proves, because I don't see De La Hoya doing any better (although he has the tools i.e the jab, to do it).
Well, I didn't go to boxrec sorry, but the point I was trying to make was that an "even" fight was more likely back then. Then again, Illuminati has a point and maybe Forbes would have gotten blown out back then too. I should have just said 1988 Oscar, I don't know why you guys are debating when and what Oscar weighed, when the fact is that an even weight match would have been years ago.
You are right he has the tools to beat Money May, and I say beating the best fighter on the planet would prove a lot. And for all those mofo's who harp on about Oscar killing the sport...change the fucking record he is no better/worse than the rest of them.
:: I know Joe , I was just bustin balls cause I was bored ... You know , going to look up the exact year he moved up to 140 helped me kill some time here at work ....
All great fights.. I wanna see them alL!! to me, DLH should fight Roy.. that would be the battle of two of the best boxers in the last decade!
