I always have to be careful that it's not a questioon of my personal perspective in making assessments like these, so I ask, is it me, or has FNF become complete crap?

    BTW:

If nothing else, Mesi has a future in briadcasting. He's a very talented orator and provides good insight. He's not a cliche machine like so many of the guests. And he's right - stylistically, Wlad is a better fight got him than Ibragimov. Now, whether or not he could withstand one of Wlad's right hands - that's another story.

It's hit and miss. It's definately not up to par on where it was when they first started broadcasting but it's boxing.

Several years ago they might have had Litzau vs. Guerrera instead of Showtime.

Echols vs. Walker was a decent fight. Nothing groundbreaking or anything but decent. It's not their fault Alan Green pulled out last minute.

I've already come to terms with the fact they're not going to have many legitimate title bouts on their air.

I agree that Mesi is a solid orator with good diction.

However he is off his rocker if he thinks he has a chance in hell of beating Wlad, lol...he's in for a rude awaking if he ever fights Wlad.

Wlad blasts Mesi in one round...we all know damn well Wlad will get brave in this one, and blast Mesi outta the ring with minimal effort.

Oh yeah, about FNF...they just can't compete with the HBOs and Showtime's of the world...plus I can't stand Teddy Atlas as color-commentator...he's keeps yapping, and yapping, and yapping, the guy just won't stop...very annoying.

Other than title eliminators, I don't recall a major title fight on ESPN in quite a while. The last one I remember was Hurtado/Harris for the WBA 140 title.

that's my point. it's no better than telemundo fights. and all teddy cares about is making a prediction and having it play out. he cums in his pants when that happens. "I was right! I was right!"

Poor Tessitore'stalent is wasted on shit cards. IMO, he's better than the guy he replaced - more passion, more knowledge and better voice.

Well, the problem is the promoters keep over bidding for the title fights so they can put them on the PPV undercards. Even with all the alphabets, there is still a limited amount of title fights.

I don't know how much ESPN invests in their failed TV series, like that Playmakers one. I'm guessing that series cost at least 10 million to make. If they invested 10 million in the purses of the fighters for the FNF series, they could really undercut HBO and Showtime because they are on basic cable rather than subscription.

I wonder what the number of PPVs they got when they had the PPV shows a few years back.

    That dude is great.

They should get rid of Atlas and replace him with Messi.

not so sure. their fights on average are just as entertaining, if not better than fnf's. e.g. ruvulcaba vs. mendoza - shocking fight imo.

The last world titles they had, I think, were way back in 2006 so the criticism is valid, but nothing new.

    Urango vs Ben Rabbah 6/30/06
    Baloyi vs Medina 1 5/31/06

and there may be others, but the Pereira fight in Jan of 2006 was also a world title fight as i remember.

They get some decent names, but it's either in showcase fights or minor title/eliminator fights.

I think Tessitore atrocious on the air. He's one of these now-typical ESPN announcers that raises their voice if anything of note happens. Like you mentioned, he certainly isn't as knowledgeable - or as good - as Papa.

I think FNF would be better off with a third person, to keep Tessitore to a minimum and keep Atlas from rambling. It's amazing how many analogies he feels the need to come up with during a telecast.

Juan Diaz fought for his title on ESPN, but I'm pretty sure it was a special attraction type of deal that Main Events had going on.

I'm just sick of the mismatches we see on ESPN. They aren't fun anymore. ESPN gives like 15,000 per show. I'd rather they gave like 30, put two prospects on there and just keep the entire broadcast to one fight and one fight only. Maybe a half hour of boxing, and the other half hour of recap, undercard highlights, and boxing news.

Do we REALLY need to sit through a kid that's 4-2 against someone that's 0-3?

    That's the criteria?

That they get paid and they like the sport?

Yeah, some of those Main Events cards were okay...bad match-ups but with at least one relevant name.

Diaz won it on BAD, I think, but he defended it on ESPN against Julien Lorcy and Billy Irwin.

I think Margarito-Lujan was another of the ESPN Main Events specials.

I prefer the boxing on Solo Boxeo by far to that on FNF.

Papa doesn't know that much. He's good at extraccting insight from the "expert" commentator, but as far as I can tell, he's no expert himself.

But at least he doesn't look at the camera, or the person next to him, like he has no f'ing clue what the hell is being talked about.

The blow by blow commentater isn't exactly supposed to be the expert. That's what the expert commentator is for.

Exactly. I think Double L explained Papa pretty well himself - at least with this part: "He's good at extraccting insight from the 'expert' commentator" - but didn't fully understand it as he was typing it.
