It was a brilliant fight, and I thought Israel clearly won, and I picked him. But after the first round, I got a little anxious and had a feeling Marquez might pull it out. Rafael looked sharp, but moreover Israel looked slower than usual, less energy, less head movement, less aggression. He looked like a different fighter. Although he really turned it up later in the fight and gave Marquez a fucking beatdown, were you not surprised by Israel's jab/right hand tactics and lack of aggression/in fighting? Where was the left hook? Throughout the whole fight it was strangely absent, and was replaced by a right hand. But hey, what can you say, he still won the fight and really hammered Rafael in the final round.
Similar to the 1st Fight, Marquez CONTROLLED the Distance w/his JAB...Especially EARLY... But he Used that Weapon More & More INfrequently as the Fight Progressed... What REED Found "Strange" was Marquez's Tendency to HURT Vasquez Mere SECONDS B 4 a Round would End...He Must have Done this 3-4 DIFFERENT Times... REED:doh:
Marquez's jab had something to do with it sure, but even when Marquez wasn't really using his jab, it just seemed like Israel was content on jabbing and throwing the right hand, boxing basically. I was a little surprised, he's best when he's coming forward, bobbing and weaving, and looking for openings for the monster left hook. I also felt he looked a little flat in the first half of the fight, and gradually came to life as the fight went on. He seemed to lack the energy and fire that he did in both the other 2 fights. However, it didn't matter at all, not only did he win but the fight was fucking incredible.
Yep, but for the majority of this fight, it seemed like Israel elected to box rather than impose his strength/power advantage.
Haven't seen it, but wonder if he over-trained. The other option is that Rudy Perez was too much of an influence. I LIKED what Rudy and Israel did for the 2nd fight - Vazquez used his jab much more, bobbed & weaved much better and put better combos together. But I wonder if they were sure that Marquez was going to be expecting the left hook all night and thus would have his right hand high....so they worked on a plan to use the right hand much more. Maybe Isra didn't execute that well. It works if you do it in combination...not if you abandon your biggest weapon. Peace.
I thought that was an incredibly difficult fight to score. Vasquez would put it on him and land good shots several times, but then he would get hurt late in the round. I thought there were very few clear rounds. I think 113-112 for vasquez was good, but i wouldn't have minded either way, just a fantastic fight.
I'm guessing Vazquez had a hurt left paw going into the fight. He used it, but rarely threw it as hard as he usually does 5x or more a typical round.
Bullshit! nothing was wrong with VAzquez. Marquez just made adjusments and fought a better fight than the last one.
Um, no not exactly. It's something I noticed even in clear Vazquez rounds. Nothing to do with marquez at all.
