REED Thinks this is Gonna B a FUN Fight...FULL of Action...Both Guys have 2 Fisted POWER, SHITTY Defenses & Somewhat QUESTIONABLE Chins (Maskaev MORESO than Peter)... w/Peter Coming Off the McCline Fight, he's Probably NOT as SURE of Himself as he Usually Is...REED Gives Maskaev a Chance @ Pulling the Upset... Thoughts???... REED:dunno:
I think Peter will win but I'll root for Maskaev. Don't know why, I've always liked the guy. I think the knockdowns against McCline we're an aberration, I've seen Peter eat big punches from Wlad Klitchko without blinking. No matter if Maskaev catches him, he'll see it coming anyway because Maskaev is slow as hell. He seems in great shape too. Maskaev is getting old and I think Peter is all wrong for him. Very agressive with a very good punch. I wouldn't be surprised to see it finish early. I hope Maskaev win though.
2 shit heavyweights fighting in a shit fight. And the winner gets to fight vladdy klitschko. how exciting.
I thought this fight was a pickem' from the start, it may very well end up looking like Maskaev / Sam, infact, I'll go with the 'mild' upset.
dsimon writes: Indeed. Maskeav is the modern Cindarella Man!! Look for him to make a comback at an advanced age and take Peter, who is ripe for the taking! All the stars are in line for this one!! Peter is ready to go down hard and Maskaev can crack!!
Maskaev isn't a cocky fellow. I tend to dislike the cocky ones unless they are cocky AND funny. He's just a hardworking guy who fought a good fight against Rahman. He had Rahman's number but we'll see if Peter has recovered mentally from the McCline bout. Peter has started a bit of cockiness, but he wasn't before he started getting the high-profile bouts. Personally I like both fighters, but we'll need to see if Peter's gas tank is full for this one. He might sputter to a loss if he can't land the lumber with enough leverage. Peter's chin has been cracked before but not permanently. Maskaev has a shot but I see it as Peter's fight to lose.
It should be watchable and hopefully it will end in a highlight reel ko. Saturdays fights should all be entertaining.
I'm pickin Peter to really look good and after the fight people talk about him taking over the division. he looks to be in as good if not better shape than ever and Maskev is getting old and maybe starting to be washed up in closing... Maskev will be washing cars in germany in 4 months!
Peter's chin looked like crap against McCline who was never known as a big puncher. If Oleg lands that right hand, Peter has a problem! I think Peter's power is very over rated but Oleg does have a bad chin. It's a pick em and I don't care who wins, it will be fun to watch for sure.
This should be an entertaining fight. They both have some power and questionable chins. The differences seem to be in Peter's strength and Maskaev's skill. Peter has shown most of his power early in fights, but Maskaev has shown he can be knocked out in early or late. Should be a good scrap. I think Cancun, Mexico could be a good location for this fight. My friend told me the event has gotten pretty good coverage in the Mexican media.
dsimon writes: Peter had a questionable chin? :eeeek: Because of the Mccline fight you think this is the case? because Peter did stay up against Vlad and has not really been tapped otherwise.
I want Maskaev to win because I think both he and Wlad want to fight one another because it's the biggest payday for both. I don't think Peter or Wlad want to fight each other again for different reasons. Peter will get stopped and he knows it and Wlad because he's been there done that. I'm sure if Peter holds the belt after Saturday, then Wlad will go after the WBA champ.
How many punchers has he faced in his career? I do think it's a question mark primarily because he was hurt badly in the McCline fight. He absorbed a lot of Klitschko jabs and right hands, but the Klitschko left hook had him pirouetting in the last round of their fight. The thing with Peter is I think he can be hurt by punches he doesn't expect/see coming. I know Klitschko tagged him with some pretty good jabs and right hands all night, but I don't know how much Klitschko was really sitting down on those punches. Part of him was in reverse, or thinking reverse, it seemed even when he was punching. I thought even Toney was beginning to find his chin a bit in the middle of their first fight. Not that he was going to knock him out, but he was tagging him with some punches that stopped him in his tracks. Maskaev is a good puncher, and his delivery is better than Peter's, but the question I have is whether he's going to actually want to put himself in position to get hit in return. He may take something off his punches so that he can be more light on his feet, so to speak. Sometimes two vulnerable punchers means one of them decides it's better to try and win a decision and avoid punishment...and it's usually the one with more skill and less of a chin...and that's Maskaev. Peter needs to win by knockout more than Maskaev does, because of how limited his skill, how slow his feet are, and how bad his accuracy is...which means he is more likely to put himself in position for the knockout and probably to win, if he does win, by knockout than Maskaev. Peter will do what he does, move slowly and wing punches when he gets a sniff of his opponent in close. Sometimes, I think he does it with his eyes closed...or if not, it's probably about as effective as if they were.
