How would he fair against a 6'2 inbred hillbilly from Indiana with 2 karate lessons called Tyler Durden?
Former sparring partner Gerry Penalosa has recently mentioned an interest in fighting Vasquez. Any possibility of this matchup coming into fruition? Also, since Gerry is so confident that he would get the W, how did the sparring sessions between them go?
I would ask how he thinks he would have fared against a prime Morales and Barrera at 122. Also, who he is picking out of Pacman and MAB, and if he plans to move up to featherweight or stay at 122, if he plans to fight Linares etc
*The trilogy with Marquez is destined to be remembered forever as one of the great & legendary series in boxing history. How much does the knowledge that his name will survive to posterity through these fights mean to him and how does that feeling compare with his other great achievements in the sport? *What fighter from history would he love to be able to test himself against and how does he think he would have fared against them? *How much does he resent the fact that fighters at higher weight classes, for instance heavyweights with much less talent and dedication than his, get so much more limelight and attention from the mainstream press? *Which fighter inspired him most as a youngster growing up and which fighter did he learn the most from watching as he got older and developed his skills? *30 is traditionally quite an advanced age for fighters in the lower weight classes - how long does he think he can continue fighting at the top level and what does he hope to achieve in that time?
Asking questions about how he would do against guys of the past is weak as hell for a legit interview. I would ask him how long he figures he needs to rest his body before climbing through the ropes again. Is he concerned that he left a big part of himself as a fighter, or even a man, in the ring over three fights with Marquez? I would avoid questions with obvious answers. Don't ask him how it feels to be a part of a great trilogy. Don't ask him how it feels to be considered a great mexican. We already know the answers to those questions. Try to be original.
Last time I interviewed Vazquez, he told me he wanted to move up to 130 to fight Pacquiao just like Larios did. Maybe you can bring that up. Or Juan Manuel Marquez, should he win!
Ask him what his favourite TV show, food and colours are. The we know what to buy him for his birthday!
What's his favorite ice cream flavor? his favorite color? his favorite day of the week? and his favorite holiday? :: :: Just kidding. How about you ask him who he's a fan of or who he likes to watch fight. Maybe you could just ask him to tell us a really cool story that he's witnessed or been in throughout his career.
