Never been a huge Byrd fan ( but alway's respected him ) but I've got to say I love the idea of him at light heavy. Everyone knew he could have dropped to cruiserweight with the new 200lbs limit but I'm shocked that he was able to shed that much weight, while a small hw, he was still a big man. I sure hope the networks don't shun him as the division just became mighty interesting with his addition, one of the best in the sports right now with Jones, Dawson, Tarver, Byrd, Johnson, Woods, Erdei ( but he's a bitch ), Hopkins, Calzahge and Green. Plus, theres plenty of solid B level guy to make things intersting.

Byrd was shot at HW, I don't think his chances improve at 175, he will just get hit more often

    different strokes for different folkes..

I find grabbing, hugging wrestling guys boring..

Byrd is a BOXER.. and IMO is just too small to fight at HW

    he is exciting.. great skills

Of course he was able to shed that much weight!

    He is CHRIST Byrd!

    :bears:

Seriously - I had no idea.

I had advocated Byrd moving down to Cruiser for years.....now I think it might just be too little too late.

Reflexes, springy legs and movement don't come back just by losing weight.

    But we'll see.

Pea was a great boxer - but like watching paint dry. :dunno:

Too big of a drop for him IMO. Not good at his age. He would have been more effective at Cruiserweight I think.

He should have done this a long time ago. Still, he might actually be a hard puncher at this weight!

Byrd was a boring heavyweight but what he achieved is commendable. Here is a guy who was beating guys much bigger than himself. He tested himself bigtime and I respect that. I think he'll do well in this division. Didn't he fight Calzaghe in the amatuers?

Calzaghe stopped him in the ams.

seriously though, if you can't appreciate the most skilled guy ever to lace them up you may as well go watch tough man competitions or bumfights.com

Byrd is an Example of PISS POOR Management...

He was a Silver Medalist in '92 @ 165 & IMMEDIATELY Packed On the Weight...Probably Out of gREED...

What Byrd SHOULD have done was PROGRESSED thru the Weights, Garnered a Supermiddle Title, Lightheavy, Crusier, etc...Who Knows, he Could have FOILED Roy Jones' Success thru those Weight Classes, which would have INTENSIFIED Byrd's Exposure Exponentially...HE Could B the Guy w/the Signature Shoes & Whatnot...

As is, Byrd has a Modicum of Respect from his Peers & Virtually NO Mainstream Exposure...He had the Chance to B a STAR, 2 B Considered GREAT, had he Been Managed Correctly...

& The Mere Thought of Moving Back DOWN @ this Phase of his Career REEKs of Desperation...

Byrd might just pull a Mayorga and let guys just hit him. 175lbers hitting him will feel like love taps.

Wrong. If you rather watch boxing from some other perspective, than that's fine. To me for example: I found prime Lennox' fights uch more entertaining than prime Tyson's. Many would not agree but so what? To each their own

Nah, leave it....Chris "The Christ" Byrd has a good ring to it....maybe the most arrogant, pompous, deluded nickname in history, but he'll certainly make news!

  23. Ugotabe Kidding

Ugotabe Kidding WBC Silver Diamond Emeritus Champ

If he took that nick, maybe that would give him a special right to get a count of three days before he has to rise from a knockdown

    Good point :bears:

Byrd being at heavy never made much sense. If he was fighting smaller guys, who probably would have been a lot more offensive, less boring, more watchable.

Byrd should have stuck around the lower weight classes?

You guys are on fucking dope.

    lol

Mike, don't you think Byrd would have been able to dominate at LH?

  28. Ugotabe Kidding

Ugotabe Kidding WBC Silver Diamond Emeritus Champ

It is almost certain he wouldn't have made as big bucks as he has now

  29. LOK

LOK I'll eat your asshole alive

Well, I'm going with REED on piss poor managment

if he had fought at LH.. and dominated.. then fought some cruisers and dominated.. THEN moved up and fought a couple HW's he'd be PAID

instead he just got fat and fought out of his weight range and really took away from his assets

  30. mikE

    mikE "Twinkle Toes" McJack

    Exactly.

And no, I don't think he would have done as well at cruiser or light heavy.
But, even if i'm wrong, he still would have almost surely made less.
