i still can't believe he did that....surely when the towel comes in tyou wave the fight off.....you've done your job....any controversy at the stoppage will be directed at the cornerman

great action though, you know Katsidis never touched down, we'll never know what would have happened if he didn't get the count, Earl may have put him away

Tough fight to call actually, because like some people mentioned Casamayor has been known to pull things together just when it looks like his time is up

I'm not overly impressed by Katsidis but I think he will be aggressive enough and want it enough to pull out a decision. I think the fight could be a bit of a letdown

I am not a fan of Casamayor; and though I respect alot of what he does in the ring; I certainly wouldn't mind seeing a changing of the guard with a Katsidis win - preferrably by stoppage.

I like Kat's all-action style, his strength, stamina and determination; his power punching and short vicious hooks inside.

But I think Casa is going to take this one.

He has to an extent ALWAYS been a streaking, hot & cold fighter. After poor performances, he comes back to surprise. He KNOWS when it's REALLY on the line and he needs to step up or step out.

He's definitely declined, no doubt....but Katsidis is very basic and movement can be an issue for him.

Added to that, he fights by "taking turns" - he will basically cover up and wait out the opponent's offensive barrage before opening up - completely squared up.

That is a huge liability against a fighter like Casamayor.

Expect Casa to show up as much as he is able to nowadays in this fight both in his movement, defense and counterpunching/offense.

But more importantly, he KNOWS he needs to cut Katsidis. So expect him to make it a clinching, mauling, rough, dirty fight. Headbutts, elbows, holding and punching, spinning Kat around....the works.

He will hold on just enough late to secure either a TD (ahead on the cards) or a tight decision.

    Peace.

Someone mentioned previously in this thread that Joel seems to be sloppy in the matches that no one takes seriously, but when the big fight comes he brings his A game. Katsidis has not shown me anything that really impresses me. I kinda see him as a more aggressive Mikkel Kessler, in the fact that the hype around the guy was huge, but then when he stepped up, he got dominated. I don't see this being any different. Casamayor has fought guys who hit harder (Chico Corrales), have better technical skill (Nate Campbell), are probably better body punchers (Jose Luis Castillo) and are more unorthodox that Katsidis (Freitas). When you have fights against Corrales, Campbell, Castillo and Freitas and at worst you could argue really close decisions, it makes you think, what does this Katsidis guy bring to the table that Joel hasn't been able to handle before? The answer is: nothing.

    Casamayor by clear una. decision:dunno:

I'm surprised at how many people are picking Casa. Casa is shot and has been for years. The only reason I give him a chance in this fight is because of how bad Katsidis' cuts were in his last fight. Then maybe some doubt if Katsidis can cut off the ring enough to do damage. But even then, Casa doesn't have the legs to keep him off for the whole 12 rounds. I'll stick to my gunz, and go with Katsidis by stoppage (if Casa doesn't cheat and headbutt :crafty: ).

On another note, what happened to the good ol days when thread creaters tallied the predictions?

I"d love to see Katsidis stop Casa, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Casa may be past his best but he's still crafty, can use a very "negative" style and he still possesses pretty good power and chin. I'll take Kats by SD. Some people will say Casa won. I wouldn't be surprised if the fights looked a bit like the Kid Diamond one.

i got Casa in 12...although it would be great if katsidis beats that ass. Actually Casa could get the KO if he's on point with the left hand.

Well A). Katsidis isnt as good as Kessler. B.) I dunno which fight you were watching, but Kessler didnt get "dominated" against Joe. C.) None is claiming Katsidis is some great fighter, but he's a good fighter, and a great ACTION fighter. Personally I wouldnt give him a chance at beating a prime Casa, but Casa is so shot that I think Katsidis can pull it off. When Casa fought Fruitass, Castillo, and the first two Chico fights he had alot more left in the tank. The third Corrales fight isnt much of an indication.... Corrales was completely finished after the first Castillo fight.

Cassamayor needs the judges to win anything at all. He is a an expert at surviving and throwing enough garbage to eek by because his oponent cannot take control of thei fight.

This guy should not be a champion in any division and he is obviously shot in a division where shot guys are usually exposed because of the punch count.

I think Katsidis might have enough confidance to do it. I hope so. Donny made a god point about Cassamayor being streaky and the truth is that the guy, like more than a few Cubans has a real depth of skills and experience to draw upon. This should be his last stand. Youth and power will triumpth this time. Cassmayor will avoid the knockout and when that happens he can always get a gift decision so this is not a gimme.

The boxing IQ of Casa is leagues above that of Santa Cruz as well, that might be why he's being written off

Ummn... try Casamayor-Raiymkulov, Casamayor-Pearson, Casamayor-Corrales 3, and Casamayor-Santa Cruz for starters. I don't care what his Boxing IQ is or how crafty he may be, he's no match for Father Time.

That was because people thought he was shot. Truth was that he matched up well to Katsidis.

Not me. I thought Casa was shot, and still maintain he looked like shit in those fights I mentioned above. But he surprised me tonight. Looks like he has a lot more in the tank than I expected. I give props to the old man.....after they check his piss.
