It was kind of dissapointing that Casamayor said in the post fight interview he wants to fight the likes of Barrera and Morales. I guess you can't blame him though, he doesn't have a lot of time left to make big money fights. However if it does come off (Campbell-Casa) who do you favor?
Yes, it was disappointing, especially considering Barrera and Morales are both retired. :: Yes, I understand all the caveats to that - but it was still funny. Surprised he didn't mention Corrales. ::  Who wins now? Probably Campbell as long as he "shows up." Who won back then? I had Casa 96-94, I'm pretty sure. Peace.
Nate... He's Got MORE in the Tank & he's More DRIVEN these Days...By Calling Out SMALLER Guys, Casa made it CLEAR he'll B Content to Ride Off into the Sunset w/Large Paydays Against "Safer" Opposition... On the Other Hand, Nate Campbell STILL Feels like he has Something to PROVE...He's even Spoken of Moving Up to 140 @ Some Point... Nate was N the INFANT Stages of his Development, when he Arguably BEAT Casa...Now, Nate Might even STOP Casa, but @ the Very Least he'd UNANIMOUSLY Decision him... REED
we all know morales and barrera will both fight again so I don't buy them being retired anymore than mayweather was. they are smaller but not by much compared to casamayor who weighed in at 140lbs on fight night. they are from the same generation as casamayor and are the big name guys he never got a chance to fight. I don't blame him for calling those guys out. I HIGHLY doubt hbo is interested in throwing money @ a rematch with campbell and casamayor. they had to be displeased with the result in both of these last two fights because the younger more marketable guys lost. no $ in a fight with campbell, at all. it shows how desperate campbell is for a fight that he'd push hard for a match with casamayor. it is hardly in his best interest either, he'd do better financially for a diaz rematch.
They've both stated they're coming back. Kevin Iole had an article on Morales a week or two ago, where Morales said he wanted to come back in late '09 or '10. He also admitted he should've taken longer between fights earlier in his career (and he should have). Morales is currently running the parks and recreation department in Tijuana.
I pick Nate now as well (as long as he "shows up" - which I'd assume he will as this would be about revenge). I had Casa beating Nate 96-94. Occasional big right hands just weren't enough. I don't think Nate was in "infancy"....Casa just shut him down a bit. Sure, Campbell is better and maybe more confident now, absolutely....but he's always been a hot & cold fighter; even recently. More importantly, if his opponent is BOXING him, he gets very frustrated and his offense can decrease....which is why I said he was VERY live against Diaz, because Juan would fight him the way Nate likes best. Peace.
Casa is a very tough hombre. To remain focused like that in face of an avalanche...The Aussie had been seriiusly hurt before this fight against weaker punchers, putting a serious doubt on his chin. In order to win, Nate has to concentrate on one thing and one thing only: the BODY. Remember their first fight, it was Campbell on the bike and placing well timed right hands, but always moving. NOW, it will be Nate WELCOMING a war on the inside. Casa has stunk the place many atimes, but now the urgency for CASH, he plants his feet a lot more, making for more interesting fights. Casa will have to fight Nate while Pacman is busy with David Diaz...
both Barrera and Morales were trying to get a fight with David Diaz but Arum had Diaz saved for Pacquiao. Speaking of Campbell and Casamayor, It was funny at the post fight conference when Campbell showed up. he was asking for the fight. Casamayor just kept yelling at him that he beat him already. All these clowns from Casamayor's team started yelling stuff at him to leave.:: at the end I think it was Casamayor's agent who told campbell that they are aware of his win over Diaz and that they would sit down and talk. :dunno: I think it was more of a reason to make Campbell leave even though he was being respectfullopcorn:
These guys need to fight each other and the winner moves on to a big payday. If the fight is competitive, then they both gain momentum to a big fight. That being said, I bet both do immediate rematches.
I don't want to see this fight again. I think casa will beat him again. I'd rather watch casa vs. barrera/pacquiao/juan diaz, or a rematch with katsidis. I'd like to see him fight barrera, they will hate each other
Barrera would suckerpunch him in the press conference presstour. It's a hard case to press for Katsidis. Sure he was ahead on 2 cards but he was stopped. He has to get other fights and move up the ladder again. I think Morales already fought David Diaz and we don't even know about these guys moving up, how well they will be at lightweight. David is a good fight initially for Pacman. I know Pacquaio started at 108 or 118. Does anyone know how many titles and how many diff divisions he has won them?
Pac started at 108...but he was 16 at the time. He won the WBC flyweight title (112) from Sasakul, then the IBF Superbantam title (122) from Ledwaba (both great wins); and now the WBC super featherweight title from Marquez. Peace.
Wow. That's impressive. Not bad for a one handed fighter at the time. Didn't he win a featherweight title as well? Never mind, just checked. He did beat Barrera where I think only the ring mag belt was on the line. Barrera didn't have any titles but he was considered the best feather in the world, eventhough he did look off that night.
He only looked "off" after he got dropped hard and got his arse charged every single round after that until he was stopped :: Judging by Barrera's performance in the rematch, I don't think he as "off" as some of you insinuate. He knew he couldn't beat Pacman. Though to the other point, Manny is a 4 weight champion, and all time great.
Yup. No "official" sanctioned titles, but "best FWT in the division" was up for grabs that night, and Pacquiao won that one in dominating fashion. Peace.
