Controlling distance or landing more punches?

  1. Controlling distance shows a fighter is winning the fight.

    37.5%
  2. Landing more punches. Hit and not get hit is what wins fights.

    62.5%

not neccessarily. Just because you land more doesen't mean you automatically win the round. I scored the 1st for JMM initially, I will rewatch the fight on Saturday and score it again.

fights are scored based on ring generalship, effective aggression, and landing the better shots, last time I checked.

But you voted for landed punches so that is more important to you than controlling the distance.

Like I said round by round. Landed punches are what is stressed more than anything else on scoring a fight. Just because you land more overall punches don't mean shit. unless you do it in more rounds

For me it's the old conundrum: do you score landed shots with the same value? It would seem to go against effective aggression. If a heavier shot seems more effective than a lighter one, they aren't scored the same or have the same effect on the judges' minds. That's GOTTA sway the judges, and Pac, to me, lands the heavier shots.

There was like a 20 shot landed difference between total connect totals for each guy...I think, and sometimes one guy would outland another in a given round...but I gotta watch it again and give my two cents. :dunno:

That's a good point I think that might be overlooked here.

I will watch the fight again (4th time through), but the amount of times I saw Marquez buckle was amazing. I've honestly never seen JMM get wobbled so many times. Even Manny Steward claimed that JMM "had old legs" but the truth is Pac was making JMM dance, not age.

And Pac might be absorbing the shots better because he looks to be the naturally larger guy even though they both make the weight. Still, I'll watch the fight tonight and see.

But that's beside the point: ON THAT NIGHT, a person has to go by what they get from each round at that time. They might see it a bit more for one or the other in a few rounds and then they have a different card than another person.

Remember, we don't have the chance for instant replay unless HBO shows it between rounds.

AND    ...sorry, I know I'm breaking an English ryle and I was an English teacher, but there were a fair number of close rounds. You score 3 or 4 close ones differently. You have a very different card. Nothing worth getting hostile about, for sure. :dunno:

It was actually the first time I've seen Pacquiao genuinely buckled/hurt that many times (2nd, 8th and 10th rounds)...plus buzzed another few. At least as of 2000, once he entered Super Bantam.

Pac knocked JMM down once and made him stagger badly another (10th round)....Marquez made Pac buckle at least three times; one in the 10th that most seem to miss but it literally made Pac stutter-step several times.

Beyond the 3rd round KD (and the stagger against the ropes) and 10th; I didn't see too many instances where Pacquiao made JMM "buckle."

I did see more instances where JMM landed hard, clean shots that stopped Manny cold and snapped his head back....including jabs.

Truth is both men landed hard shots and hurt the other. Pac got the KD and that odd noticeable stagger in the 10th; but I thought Manny was legitimately buzzed/buckled more times than Marquez overall.

It was close, though - and net, both men landed big shots.

I did think JMM deserved the decision by 1 point. I can see a draw or Pac winning by 1; I cannot see Manny winning more than 6 rounds at best.

Let me know your thoughts when you view.

I've seen it often and continue to....it's a great fight.

    Peace.

Haha, that is the truth:popcorn: This was a ridiculous weekend. I had 2500 on the Jazz to beat the lakers Friday(I think that was Friday), loss. I had 2k to win 4600 on Villinova to beat Clemson. After getting behind by 18 they comeback and win. I lose 3100 or so on Rees over Kotelnik and then put 3k on Casamayor to win 5800. I did well overall but christ it can be very stressfull. I easily could have lost all 4 bets.

Who said out of range? it says controlling distance. That's not the same thing. Some people think if JMM and Pacquiao fight from a longer distance that even if JMM gets outlanded he is "controlling distance".

Not really. Only Bautista has lost a fight recently and he's still young. Chinny as hell and not a great future but still maybe can improve some. Regardless, you haven't ever been a fan of some less than elite fighters before? :dunno: Donaire especially is far from garbage.

WTF are you talking about? Donaire is one of the best lower weight champs. He's the best in his weight class.
