...I nominate Casamayor-Katsidis as FIGHT OF THE FRIGGIN' CENTURY!!!!! :eeeek: :eeeek: :eeeek: :bears:

I think that's one of the best fights I've ever seen live, as it happened.

When in the modern era has anyone seen a fighter get his ass knocked clear out of the ring, and then come back to win the fight?? :dunno: I can't think of a time...

This fight was so great, it almost makes up for the career-full of unmotivated, stinker performances that Casa has had.

The most ironic aspect is that HBO broke from its usual practice of putting the PPV replay on first and letting everyone wait for the main event, no doubt figuring Casa's fight would be a stinker and the Pacquiao fight was the one everyone was waiting to see. As good a fight as Pac-Marquez was, compared to Casa-Kastsidis, it looked like a stroll through the park IMO.

Casamayor-Katsidis was a great fight. It ranks up there will many other classic B.A.D. bouts.

Well, this has been as good a month of fights as I can remember.

    And that's with Haye-Maccarinelli being just a two-round blowout.

I didn't think it was close to being as good as Vazquez - Marquez 3 or Pacman - Marquez 2.

Agreed. Katsidis showed a lot of bum like skills in there, and Casamayor just capitalized on it. He was chasing down a counter puncher with his hands by his sides.

the guy with the bum like skills would have an excellent chance to KO pacquaio (who incidentally was heavier in the ring a week ago than katsidis was saturday)

You're making a classic mistake of confusing high drama with high excitement. Casamayor will never ever, ever be in a fight of the year, much less a fight of the century.

I watched (for the first time) the day afterwards after having read a spoiler and it was still exciting. That's how you know a fight was good!

pacquaio hasn't even beaten any natural 130 lbers let alone lightweights.

I don't know, I've never seen Pacquiao run hands down into a haymaker like Katsidis did.

maybe not a haymaker, but I've seen him run face first into a jab from an average australian and get dropped for a 15 count

Yeah, but like usual, Pacquiao stopped the guy.

    Katsidis did a belly dance.

Neil you should know better than to pick someone like katsidis over pacquiao.

Lightweight schmightweight, Pacman is a proven elite fighter, Katsidis is not and just got KO'd, end of story.

    Pacman KO 1 Katsidis.

katsidis probably wouldve stopped the guy too if he was given more time to recover and was fighting a pedestrian aussie instead of a hall of famer.

pacquaio wasn't anymore polished back then than katsidis is now. and if they fight this year at lightweight its a toss up.

I know I sound like a broken record but damn boxing is exciting. 2008 has been fuken awsome with these great fights. I know that it is early in the year but fuk we have already been blessed with 3 potiential fight of the years between the Marquez brothers and now the Casa fight. And just think we still got hella great fights left on the docket. I can see the Kessler/Miranda fight making a case for FOTY as well. Who in the hell says that boxing is dying! I'll Holla 5000

I don't really care. Pacquiao holds victories over the best featherweights of his era; Morales x2, Barrera x2, Marquez (should be x2 if not for a scoring error). Pacquiao is one of the few elite fighters who has truly cleaned out the elite of his division, and the best fighters of his era. I'm just glad I was a part of that and didn't have to jump bandwagons multiple times to find a fighter I could support like other posters here.

135 is Pacquiao's 8th division, and anything he accomplishes there is just icing. He could lose at 135 and his legacy would still be secured.

pacquaio is a great featherweight who has moved up in weight and defeated other great featherweights. I'm not a believer in him against any hard hitting lightweights.

I don't even believe in him against Joan Guzman.

BTW, I would've loved to have seen Guzman-Katsidis come off last year.

Absolutely. And though I don't think it wins, Casa-Katsidis is a definite contender.

Given the right circumstances ANY fighter with any style can be in an FOTY-type fight...especially when the surrounding story/context is right.

    Peace.

You're right, I'm confusing Casamayor hatred with facts. I'll give him his props, the dirty motherfucker.

I disagree, I think it had a lot of both. It was a fast paced fight, and Katsidis belted Casa pretty good throughout the fight, even in the rounds when there wasn't knockdowns (which made the ending all the more dramatic).

Pac-Marquez II is a fight I'd describe as having a lot of drama, but only just decent action. It really was a semi-tactical fight, but was made great by the suspense and all the turn-arounds. I saw both fights for the first time back-to-back, and I thought the Casa fight was the better by far.
