I just got through watching his segment on Rome is Burning and here are the reasons why he won't fight Cotto...lol

1.He needs to do better ppv numbers

2.He needs a bigger fanbase, then he'll have his chance

He seem hell bent on fighting De La Hoya again:rolleyes: IMO the first fight was pointless and the rematch would be double pointless.I want to see fights that matter.

Floyd already has Oscar and Hatton rematch lined up so Cotto will have to wait. This proves that Floyd is not ducking Cotto as we've known about these matches for a while now. - Reed logic.

He must be all over the ESPN networks today. I was at lunch and saw him being interviewed on ESPNEWS, but the only thing I saw them show were clips of him and the Big Show.

Mayweather hasn't brought in huge ppv audiences by himself, that's probably part of the reason he's so insistent on fighting opponents who bring their own.

    Mayweather fears COTTO....

Money was also asked about the possibility of fighting the Puerto Rican stud, Miguel Cotto. He didn’t seem enthused.

“Arum has a chokehold on Cotto’s career,â€￾ he said. “I’m my own boss. Once Cotto becomes an entrepreneur then we can talk. I’m not going to continue to make guys big. Hatton became big in America cause of me. If Oscar wants one more chance we can make it happen. If Hatton wants one more chance we can make it happen.â€￾

Mayweather is sooooo full of shit it ain't funny......:laughing::laughing:

    That's right.

It's also why Pacquiao can't fight anyone other than David Diaz in June.

Floyd just talks a lot of nonsense anyway. I don't know why people take his comments seriously. He even once claimed he was the box office draw and not De La Hoya.

I didn't expect to see Mayweather-Cotto soon since both Mayweather and Cotto's team (since we rarely hear from Cotto whom he really wants to fight) would prefer a DLH fight for the money, and DLH and Schaefer said they would look at a Cotto fight if negotiations with Mayweather fell thru.

I had expected to see Mayweather-Cotto in 2009 when both guys were the biggest possible payday for each other. But this whole lawsuit of Mayweather suing Top Rank and Top Rank talking about countersuing, and talk of another worthless rematch for Mayweather (this time with Ricky), is especially dissapointing.

but Cotto can do good PPV numbers and has a big fanbase so he meets the criteria that floyd is setting?

but floyd isnt ducking him because he has two fights lined up.

Right. Because Carlos Baldomir and Ricky Hatton were monster PPV stars before Floyd

    Anyway...

Floyd is in no way, shape or form scared of Cotto. It's gonna happen...maybe early next year...and it'll be HUGE.

Mayweather-Baldomir did 325,000...which is actually below his fights with Gatti (365,000), and Judah (374,000).

The only fights that drew really high level pay per view numbers were in two fights against DLH (2.4 million) and Hatton (850,000 U.S.).

High level or absolutely ridiculous numbers?

325,000k is excellent considering who he was fighting. Or you think Baldomir brought those people in?

And how about Hatton's PPV numbers against Jose Louis Cas..oh wait. What PPV numbers?

A little while ago I would have agreed, but doesn't the fact that Mayweather is suing Top Rank and Top Rank is apparently going to countersue make it really hard to make?

There's going to have to be an awful lot of money on the table to get the sides to come to terms. Even with the possibility of making some big money fights during the time they were split up, it took Arum and DLH years to work together again.

His highest before the DLH fight was 374,000. That's hardly proof of a real pay per view attraction.

Mayweather has only had two really well selling pay per views, and they were both heavily promoted by HBO...because they came against HBO fighters.

There aren't that many left around his weight class.

Exactly. Pacquiao gave Marquez TWO of his highest paydays, and Marquez arguably lost both (he actually did if you correct the scoring error from fight #1). Now clowns are saying Pacquiao should keep giving Marquez money or he's "ducking." Pacquiao can make money without Marquez, Marquez can't make money without Pacquiao.

When's the last time Pacquiao's fought a someone who wasn't from Mexico?

    Three years ago?

He's done great ppv numbers in large part because he was fighting great Mexican fighters.

A big reason Pacquiao does the ppv numbers is because of the Mexican fans that buy them to watch his opponent.

Solis did around 200,000, Larios wasn't even on in the U.S. and Velazquez was an HBO undercard of a Morales fight.

True, Pacquiao gets a lot of PPV numbers from kicking the crap out of great Mexican fighters, but that's basically the only top fighters in those divisions. Sure Valero and Guzman are up there, but they aren't well known.

I bet you Pacquiao vs. Unknown Diaz does very well.

    That much?

That's pretty good for a Top Rank, non-HBO PPV card.

It was, though it was also one of the better overall pay per view cards of the year.

And the undercard was loaded with Mexicans...and one Filipino against a Mexican.

Jorge Arce-Cristian Mijares, Edgar Sosa-Brian Vilora, and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

I agree with this...and your first post.

I fully expected Mayweather-Cotto to take place, likely in late 2009 once more momentum had built up at 147 - with PBF maxing out his mainstream potential and Cotto consolidating himself as the premier welterweight. No matter what PBF or Arum/Camp Cotto said, it would become too big to ignore.

The legal scenario between Top Rank and Mayweather now makes this alot more difficult - at least for '09....which sucks because these are the prime, peak years.

    Peace.

Mayweather won't fight Cotto unless he's been "exposed" in some way, or he looks shopworn.

Look for Mayweather to fight either Margarito or Paul Williams if they lose their next fights.

If the Cotto fight doesn't happen, I think Mosley would be a likely opponent after the presumed Hatton rematch.

Maybe he'll start lobbying for Pacquiao.

    Exactly...

It's FUNNY How Peeps PICK & CHOOSE what to Believe Out of Floyd...When he Said he was RETIRING After the DeLa Fight, NOBODY Believed him...When he Said he was Gonna Take a COUPLE YEARS Off, after the Hatton Fight, NOBODY Believed him...When he Says he's the Best EVER, NOBODY Believes him...

But when Floyd Points Out Reasons why a Cotto Fight WON'T Happen, Peeps Take him @ his WORD???...NEWSFLASH, 99% of What Floyd Says is BULLSHIT!!!...Haven't Ya'll Figured that Out Yet???...

It Seems to REED that Cotto Fans R Drinking THE SAME Kool-Aid that Hatton Lovers Were, Convincing THEMSELVES that Floyd is DUCKING Somebody...Supposedly Floyd was "Ducking" Hatton, but the INSTANT Hatton Called Floyd Out PUBLICLY, what Happened???:dunno: ...

If Cotto Takes the INITIATIVE & Mentions Floyd by Name, REED is Pretty Sure Floyd will SIGN the Dotted Line...

What's FUNNY is, Cotto Fans R CONVENIENTLY FORGETTING how Floyd Made Offers to Cotto, but was Told, "Give Us 18 Months, Give Us a Year, etc., etc."...

But NOW, Floyd is SCARED of Cotto???...

    Yeah, O.K.

Let's face it, Floyd would humiliate Cotto pretty badly. Anyone who thinks otherwise is just a hardcore Cotto nuthugger.

Floyd would dominate Cotto, he would dominate Margarito, he would dominate Williams, he would dominate Cintron, he would dominate Berto too, Quitana ??? no contest, Floyd would dominate him too, Mosley ??? Floyd would dominate. Thank god he's fighting Hatton and DLH again, after all, they're the only one who can challenge him
