Put me on the bandwagon. I picked Shamrock, but I was impressed by Le.

Those kicks come hard and fast. Naturally I don't think he's in Spider's league yet, but the kid has some potential. Frank Shamrock is no lightweight in there. He's a dangerous guy and Le handled him.

Hats off to Shamrock for standing and banging, but what a dumb strategy.

It wasn't a strategy it was a reality. He wasn't going to outwrestle Le. Le is a ton better than Shamrock wrestling.

why is le better at wrestling?
I've seen him a few times before mma, but that was doing his kickboxing/takedown sport that isn't really anything like boxing.

Because Shamrock isn't that good of a wrestler. A few people seemed to miss it but even when he tried to get le down, it didn't work. Oh and Le does have some of a wrestling background although not as good as some others....

On making the transition to MMA:
I also have a very solid wrestling background. I was a high school All American; I was a junior college All American, and that's something that a lot of people probably don't realize. They think oh he's just a Sanshou fighter, but my background is from wrestling. I think that along with the type of San Shou kickboxing I've been doing has completely helped me make that transition

Kid in terms of MMA experience or in comparison to me. I watched the fight. I know how old Cung Le is.. 34 by the way, not 35.

But back to the strategy for a second. Cung Le has a wrestling background but he's never been on the mat in an MMA fight with the likes of Ken Shamrock. Shamrock has forced some pretty good fighters to submit while Le doesn't have that experience.

Hell Brock Lesnar is a NCAA wrestling champion but it didn't help him avoid getting twisted like a pretzel against a lesser accomplished wrestler and MMA submission expert in Frank Mir. Lesnar, like Le, had never been on the mat with an accomplished fighter before.

Strategy is about what would have been Shamrock's best choice of fight plans. There is no way he wins a stand-up brawl like we saw last night, but on the mat his chances improve in my opinion.

As a couple of people have mentioned, I think Frank would have found it difficult to get Le to the ground had he chosen that route anyway. But it still would have been a better strategy that standing with a devastating kickboxer.

May 25, 1973... You do the math... and do it before May 25th..

I just read that Shamrock really did have a broken bone in his right forearm last night. Le can kick. You have to admit that Shamrock has a great chin. I wonder how man guys at 185 can stand up to a couple kicks from Le.

He will be a player at 185.

Agreed.I said it before the shamrock fight that he's better than people think and IMO can beat most of the top ten middleweights....which ain't saying much but I still think he can :dunno:

I'm still waiting to hear TFK chime in on Cung Le. TFK is the resident MMA guru and his opinion should be interesting.

He's also got to be giddy like IandI in a Rogaine factory about big Tim leaving UFC and possibly getting a shot at Fedor down the road.

    What's up TFK?

Right there with ya Trplsec, TFK and I have had some difference in opinions when it comes to Tim, but I would love to see Fedor desroy him:popcorn:

By the way, you are fool if you don't think Cung Le can handle himself at 185. The only guy I don't see him lasting with is Anderson Silva, the rest he has a live shot against and would be favored against many.

He's 6-0 now after the Shamrock fight. He's fought cans up until Saturday.

While it was a good fight, and a good win for Le. Anyone who watched it must admit Shamrock fought the stupidest fight he could have fought.

The first two rounds they fucking talked and shook hands more than they fought and Shamrock used absolutely none of his strengths. He didn't even try to take Le down, he had a hold of his back once and let it go and didn't even try. Shamrock is an idiot.

Yeah i saw the fight. Cunnilingus looked to have a good variety of kicks and shots. He even used a sweep and some back fists. However like you said Shamrock fought a pretty stupid fight.

Yeah, Shamrock Did ALOT of Talking & POSING...He was Playing the Crowd MORE than he was FIGHTING...

That was REED's 1st Time Seeing Either Guy Fight, but he was UNDERwhelmed by Frank Shamrock...

As Others have Said, Cung Le was VERY Impressive, but he'd Get WAXED by Anderson Silva...

    REED:cool:
