What U're FAILING to Acknowledge is THE TIMING of this Offer, Donny... Why was 8 Mil ONLY Offered when Arum KNEW Floyd was about to LEAVE him???:dunno: ....Why Didn't it Happen ANYTIME During the Previous 8+ Years Floyd was Promoted by Arum???... Fuuuurthermore, Floyd UNsuccessfully Negotiated w/Baldomir, just after Baldomir Beat Zab...So even Before they Met, Floyd had BEEN TRYING to Fight Baldomir...He Then Went on to Fight Zab on PPV... Can ANYBODY Dispute that Zab was MORE of a PPV Entity @ that Time than Margarito???:dunno: ....During the Buildup for & After the Zab Fight, Floyd was Criticized for Not Facing the "Real, Linear Champion", Baldomir...This Movement was Spearheaded by Brian Kinney Among Others, so Floyd Ended Up Fighting Baldomir ON PPV for the SAME Money Arum Offered him to Fight Margarito (if Not Slightly MORE)... & Sorry, but from the MOMENT Floyd Moved Up to 147, DeLa was ALWAYS "On the Horizon"...That's ALL Floyd EVER Talked about...Add N the FACT that DeLa had Parted ways w/Arum...Floyd KNEW that he WOULDN'T Get a DeLa Bout as Looooooong as Arum Promoted him... Which Leads Us Right Back to REED's 1st Sentence of this Post...The TIMING of Arum's 8 mil Offer to Floyd...Arum ONLY Offered Floyd 8 mil as a DESPERATE Attempt to Retain Floyd's Services...But by that Time, DeLa (& More Importantly, the 15-20 Mil Floyd Stood to Earn)was ALREADY on Floyd's RADAR... SURELY, U Can Acknowledge that Arum's TIMING of this 8 mil Offer was FISHY... REED
Perhaps he can fight Margarito in a defence of his WBC 147 title? Speaking of which, I've rarely heard a ranking body place less pressure on a titleholder to fulfil his mandatories...shouldn't Berto be offered a shot at that title at some point?
Berto & Floyd have the same management. Why would they do that? Why would Berto even want that fight?
REED Can't Prove it, but he's Pretty Sure DiBella ISN'T Openly PURSUING a Title Shot Against Floyd just Yet... Despite his Ranking, it's N Berto's Best Interests to FIGHT a Top 5-10 Welter B 4 Stepping Up to Floyd... As for Margarito, REED FULLY Expects him & Cotto to Meet this Summer, after they Both Win N April...& REED can Only PRAY that After Cotto WAXES Margarito, we can STOP Talking about his AVERAGE Ass:: ... REED
Well opinions can be all over the map, but struggling to beat Jesse Feliciano would not qualify as him "looking better than he ever did" That part is nonsense, but i wasn't objecting to the rest.
I have never said PBF is "ducking" anyone. Matter of fact, you won't find me saying that about any fighter. Peace.
Ah, got it. Thanks for the clarification. I thought he looked very good against Estrada and Mathysse. Feliciano not so much, of course....but those fights happen. At the very least I'll expect it to be more competitive and last longer...I still maintain that Cintron wasn't really hurt in their first fight as much as he was just discouraged. Peace.
Neither Ellerbe nor Mayweather addressed that or brought it up as an issue. Mayweather/Ellerbe themselves said they elected to buy out of TR rather than take the $8MM to fight Margarito. Ellerbe even went to great lengths to "make clear that we are not ducking Margarito." They made that choice. It's not about whether it is "fishy" or not. They were not concerned with that, nor did they bring it up. Arum had said for quite a long time before the offer that PBF simply wasn't interested in fighting Margarito or other top WWTs. Sure, it was largely to bait and goad and snipe at PBF, but that's been on the table for a while. And God knows I don't like Arum....and I have no quarrel with Mayweather. Mayweather had always talked about DLH, but those negotiations did not commence until 2007. For whatever reason - likely a perceived high risk/low reward scenario - PBF chose flat-out not to fight Margarito. $8MM is nothing to sneeze at; and surely Baldomir was a much lesser risk. Peace.
Co-signs. Didn't think Cintron was hurt at all in their first fight...don't know if that's a good or bad thing. Especially since he exhibited similar traits during the Feliciano fight...I swear I caught flashbacks during that one. And then the way he reacted after getting the TKO - pretending he had some hand injury...WTF?? I don't know - Cintron has issues. But even against Feliciano, I like the way he "gutted" it out :: . Maybe he's turned a corner.
Maybe... :: We'll see. I hear you on the flashbacks. It's frustrating to see a guy who has so much potential and so many physical tools not be able to put it all together. Peace.
U're AMAZING, Donny:: ... U REFUSE to Accept the Possibility that Mikkel Kessler is DUCKING Edison Miranda, yet here U R Basically saying Floyd DUCKED Margarito???:dunno: ... Kessler SIGNED a Contract, BACKED OUT of it, has NO Fight on the Horizon, yet U DON'T See that as "Ducking", but when Floyd Turns Down 8mil for Margarito, GETS 8+ Mil for Baldomir, THEN 15-20 mil for DeLa, he "Ducked" Margarito???... & THE FACT that a Mere 2 Fights After the Margarito Offer, Floyd was IN THE RING w/DeLa is ALSO Irrelevant???... Unbelievable... REED:clap:
Did he really get 8 mil for Baldomir? That's not bad :: I can't accuse Floyd of ducking Margarito though, I just can't. Margarito would be an easier fight than Zab I swear, he is one of the most overrated fighters of recent years. He is probably ducking Cotto though, if he faces oscar and hatton again :tease:
He Got AT LEAST 8 mil for Baldomir... Not Sure HOW U Can B Accused of "Ducking" a Particular Guy when U EQUAL or SURPASS that Dollar Amount to Face "the Real,Linear Champion" of your Division, THEN U DOUBLE that Amount (@ Worst) to Face the "Golden Boy"... agREED w/your Last Sentence 100%... REED
Everybody wanted to see the Judah fight. That was the big fight at the time Mayweather moved to 147. They was negotiating prior to Zabs fight with Baldomir. Lots of people were critical of Mayweather for not fighting Baldomir. Brian Kenny interviewed Floyd asking him why he wasn't fighting the linear champ, Baldomir. There is lots of instances where a planned fight has still gone ahead even though a fighter lost in a showcase fight. De la Hoya-Hopkins still took place even though everybody knew Sturm won the fight. Pac-Morales 2 happened even when Morales lost to Zahir Raheem. Mayweather-Judah turned out to be much more competitive, sell more PPV's and sell more tickets then the Baldomir fight.
I don't think he meant the fight itself, because I'm sure most would agree it was a decent scrap. But the thought of fighting Zab coming off an embarrasing loss was shit.
What's amazing is you comparing the two and putting words in my mouth. :nono: The Kessler "story", when we had that conversation, had JUST broken - and it is still only a week old. The ONLY thing I've said about that is that it had BETTER be because he's been offered a title fight for a belt Calzaghe will vacate. I also said that anything OTHER than that reason would be a CRAP excuse and that if so Kessler and Palle should be roundly criticized for turning down this fight after having all the negotiations go their way - especially since Miranda is the PERFECT opponent for Kessler to break into the U.S. market. Absolutely a bone-headed move if they've pulled out like that - and Kessler would be without excuse, especially since Miranda, IMHO is a low risk/high reward scenario. I said the coming weeks would tell us. Here is the thread for your reference - pages 4, 5, 6. http://www.fightbeat.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24689&page=4 Here is one of the articles that talks about the Mayweather-Margarito situation -note no DLH fight is mentioned or even enters into the discussion: http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/boxing/news/story?id=2420382 Mayweather's situation is KNOWN, it's 2 years later, and we saw it all play out, there is no speculation and it is well-documented. Fact is he chose to not fight Margarito for $8 Million; and opted to end up fighting Baldomir in November (4 months later) for the same $8 Million. You can certainly argue it was smart because Baldomir was a much more attractive risk/reward scenario than fighting Margarito given the same money and the "linear" title. But there was not DLH fight on the line until 2007. Now, I've NEVER accused any fighter of "being afraid of" or "ducking" another. I HAVE said that they didn't like the risk/reward ratio. Boxing IS about money and it IS about risk/reward. Some fighters need to take the risk at certain times; at others they don't need to or prefer not to. Boxing is a business. I believe that's the case with Mayweather - so don't lump me in with those accusing him of "cowardice." If nothing materializes with Kessler in the coming weeks - or he ends up fighting some mediocre opponent in May or June? I will be first in line criticizing him - and you can quote me on that. Peace.
:: 8 million 'plus' -------Reed please,... you mean 8 million and 1 dollars?..that was a clear 'damage control' innuendo from the not so bright Dan Goosen, which he desperately felt, had to be extrapulated due to the distinctive WRITH and PRESSURE exhibited by Fraud's unstable reactions both visually, and verbally to incessant media confrontations regarding the Margarito proposition. But need I have to remind you again, that in order for Fraud to be better compensated for fighting Scrubdomir instead, Dan would have needed to add $750,000 dollars to Fraud's purse, in order to have made a staggering, $1 profit,....
Yes...and then Zab...LOST. And rightfully so...because Zab...LOST. So that makes it ok in your eyes? Competitive? Yeah...for all of three rounds. Typical Judah fight. Face it dude, he avoided Margarito. Maybe it was money, maybe it was actually not wanting to fight him. Whatever the reason, he didn't do it and he could've and should've. Instead, his stablemate Paul Williams did the job.
Judah was competitive for at least half the fight. He should have been up on any logical scorecard going into round 7. People obviously did want to see Floyd fight Zab. It did more PPV buys and sold more tickets then his fight with Baldomir and was a much better, more competitive fight. Like i said everybody wanted to see Floyd fight Zab when he moved up to 147. Lots of times when 2 guys are being scheduled to fight down the line and one loses the fight happens anyway because that is the money fight.
NO WAY. He won the first two rounds, lost the third, landed a huge left to begin the fourth and proceeded to get his a** kicked until he threw the low blow. Yup, that about sums it up. Sure. I won't dispute that. In fact, that was his reason for not fighting Baldomir first. That, and "everyone knows that wasn't Zab that night." So Floyd figured Baldomir got a fluke win. Then Tata beats a washed up, welterweight Gatti and is worthy. Yeah that's true. But Zab lost, dude. And quite a few people wanted to see Floyd face Margarito as well. Certainly a lot more people wanted to see that fight than they did Baldomir. Sh*t, even Shane Mosley told him to go fight Tony. He avoided the fight, however you want to rationalize it.
:nono: $8,000,001 so he could say he didn't duck Margarito. I think the words "So I can say I didn't duck Margarito" were actually written into the contract. ::
Did Shane tell him to go fight Tony because he didn't want to fight him himself. Not too many people even knew who Margarito was so i don't know how you can say that. Baldomir had just defeated Zab and Gatti on Sho then HBO, people knew him. Before Tony's fight with Clottey his last fight on HBO or Sho was Santos right, which was a fight he lost.
