Former WBA and WBC super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler, whose only loss in 40 pro bouts was a close decision at the hands of undefeated Joe Calzaghe, now knows what will be at stake in his next fight, a world championship.

    Good night Mundine!

It's still not an acceptable fight in place of Miranda.

IMO, Mundine is better than Miranda but Kessler has already beaten Mundine so it's a disapointing fight.

Queer. I'd much rather see the Miranda fight.

Perhaps Miranda can do something that actually warrants a title fight at 168 now, instead of building his credentials through press releases.

Kessler-Mundine may not be the greatest match-up, seeing as it's been done before, but Miranda's done nothing to show this is actually a step down in class...and it is for a world title.

The question is, does this get picked up on U.S. television.

 Why is Kessler so dame smart! Beat a one eyed guy for a world title that couldn't beat you when he had two eyes. Miranda should have been calling Mundine out.

    I agree.

So here it is. The reason revealed.

I'm disappointed. I "get" why they did it - like I had said, this is what I had suspected. And I agree that at 168 lbs. this is a better "opponent" than Miranda.

But he's beaten Mundine already - and handily, I might add.

I would still love to see Kessler-Miranda - and would rather have seen that than this rematch.

However, this does give Miranda chance to PROVE he deserves a title shot (or a shot at the elite) at 168 since he hasn't done enough at super middle to warrant a try at a belt.

    Peace.

Haha, this explains why Brähmer is suddenly looking at the vacant wba light-heavyweight title, instead of the super-middleweight title.
I like it, if Calzaghe moves up, Kessler already has a piece of the puzzle again, if not he might actually force the rematch through his mandatory status.

Plus overall I like Abraham/Miranda II and Kessler/Mundine II better, and all Miranda has to do is beat Abraham, and Kessler will gladly slap him around.

Yes, and those rankings would be worth absolutely nothing. Mundine is a MUCH better fighter than both of those guys. In my eyes this is what you're rankings look like------>:shit: Whether you hate Mundine or not he is very good.

Besides Kessler, Mundine is the the best @ 168 right now.

Agreed. That said, he'll beat Mundine again in similar fashion.

Mundine may very well be a better 168 pounder than Miranda, but Kessler has already beaten him DECISIVELY, so really - what's the point?

And you know with near certainty that Kessler - Miranda would be a more exciting fight than Kessler - Mundine, so I think there is good reason to complain.

I tend to agree, its not as good for the viewer, but I can understand its better for him re picking up a belt

Exactly, that's it in a nutshell. Better for him, not as good for the viewer/fan.

So therefore, the fans do have a right to complain.

So Kessler is the type that takes the easiest possible route to a meaningless belt. What a warrior.

So we get to see Kessler fight a guy he's already beat with ease. nice.

 at Mundine being the easiest possible route, its not like he beat the hell out of him the first time round

He's fighting a guy he easily beat for a meaningless belt. How is that not the easy way? Calzaghe is the other way and he failed.

...and fighting Miranda would somehow be more meaningful? make him more of a warrior?
Lets face it, Miranda would perhaps make for a more fan friendly fight but Mundine is genuine at 168, Miranda isn't shit as far as I can see and issuing press statements and talking shit on websites every week isn't going to change that...

It's too bad he couldn't fight someone worthy, like David Banks.

Again, what actually makes Mundine the easiest possible route? Because he doesn't inundate the boxing web with press releases?

Fighters get paid based on the number of fans they attract. Fighting exciting fights on US TV is how you go about doing that. Not fighting boring rematches that will not be aired on US TV.

Kessler would be better off fighting a "name" on US tv in the long run. I don't think much of Miranda but he is known and it's a very winnable and marketable fight. Are HBO and Showtime making offers to air Mundine vs Kessler? They both made large offers to Kessler for a Miranda fight.

I didn't say Miranda was worthy nor did I mention that bum Banks.
