Sure it is. I get tired of people overrating Penn. He's a great fighter and very well rounded. Better than Silva on the ground for sure. Pretty much better than anyone on the ground. His stand up is nowhere near as good as Silva's though.

Easy to get overrated when you beat some of the top guys of your division and do it pretty brutally. BJ Penn on the other hand is 3-3 in his last 6 fights.

Some top guys? How about the ones he's lost to?

And the question isn't who's better today, it's who's better given the mythical "prime" of each fighter.

What about them? Silva is in his prime and hasn't lost in quite some time. In the process destroying pretty good fighters. Penn on the other hand like I said, despite all of his talent has lost 3 out of his last 6.

Which says what? That Penn, not at his best, isn't as good as Silva, at his best? Kinda not the point of the thread, is it.

BJ IMO is the better fighter of the two.

He's basically lost to much bigger guys only. GSP, Hughes and Lyoto Machida. Also the loss to Jens who is basically the only guy his size to beat him and BJ made short work of Jens in the rematch. He also hold a submission win over Hughes and other bigger guys like Matt Serra and Din Thomas, who aren't all that great but have a big size advantage. He also choked out Gomi, one of the best LW's. Look at his record, there isn't any names you won't recognize.

There's a world of difference from beating a Hughes or a Gomi, than there is in a Rich Franklin...and thats Anderson's career win right now.

Yep, Hughes is one of the best welterweights in UFC history while Franklin is a guy who once held the title. Gomi is just bad ass plain and simple.

BJ has no business fighting above 155, that is his weight anything above that and he is being lazy which is his only downfall as a fighter.

How is Matt Serra bigger than BJ Penn are you kidding me? Also Pulver actually can make 145. BJ rematched Pulver several, several years later after Pulver had lost to even a novice like Joe Lauzon. LOL, big deal. Yeah he choked out Gomi and so did Nick Diaz and Marcus Aurelio. It's not exactly unheard of.

I'd rather be 3-0 against the likes of Henderson and Franklin than 1-1 against hughes.

nah, Hendo is the bigger win....

I think BJ would put up a better fight than Hendo or Franklin did:lol:

BJ might just be the biggest cross between talent, skill, and underacheiving in the history of the sport.....I say underachiever because he SHOULD have beaten everyone he fought, aside from GSP, based on sheer talent and skill, and hell, he still almost beat Georges

Hendo is a bigger win than Franklin. Agreed. But neither win comes close to a victory over Matt Hughes.

Penn is a better fighter than GSP as well.

Penn is more skilled....I think GSP is probably the bigger natural talent......

GSP is DEF a better wrestler

    Penn is much better BJJ

Penn is also a better striker, esp when it comes to hands and taking a punch....Georges is much better with his feet....

The reason I said BJJ SHOULD have beaten everyone but GSP, is just because GSP is CLOSE to his skill level, and so much bigger
