He is like the scouser version of Maussa, but nowhere near as good :: He's this lanky, awkward bum, that has a highly amusing way of going down. He just got his ass kicked by a little Mongolian fella, fun fight. :bears:
Yep, around 6 official knockdowns, and a few more unofficial times, where he just fell down from being a lanky, uncoordinated bum :: I can't believe this guy won best british boxer of the year. He was given a 1 sided beating by this little mongolian guy. It was a fun fight though. He's the kind of guy, that whilst not detestable, is good to watch being beaten up. He has an interesting way of flailing around the ring and slumping to the canvas. A couple of times there was a delayed reaction, he'd get cracked with a right hand, then a second or 2 later, his lanky frame would just sink to the canvas :: Even my girlfriend was laughing the whole time.
Ha, I enjoyed that too. He's a scrub who was being feted as pride of liverpool and brought a shitty crowd with him every time he fought. Reminded me of anthony farnell or even bernard dunne. I was thinking to myself beforehand kevin keegan-style that I would love it, love it if he got beaten.
Btw, anyone watch trash khan's fight afterwards? Am still not sold, his fundamentals will let him down against a better opponent IMO
I was thinking the same thing. I've been on the fence recently about khan. But looking at this fight and analysing him as a fighter - take away his speed and you'll find what's left is very average. He has fast hands and half decent movement, but his power, timing, accuracy, overall skill, ring intelligence etc is totally average. I can't believe mIKE thinks he'd beat Diaz, Casamayor and Campbell. :: All 3 of them would beat the shit out of "trash khan". Oh, and Werren seems to think the same thing. Did you see how annoyed he was getting when the interviewer was asking him when Can would fight for a world title? ::
In fairness, the ITV commentators seemed to be on a cash bonus if they could get Warren or any of Khan's camp to say that he was ready for a world title fight NOW. From ITV's perspective, I can understand the pressure, but Warren knows he's not ready.
I don't disagree. It would be obvious to anyone with half a clue about boxing that khan is not ready for world level yet. ITV seemed to want to push that angle a bit much. Get the british public excited. It should also be obvious to anyone with a full clue about boxing, that Khan is never going to be ready for world level :: Obviously given that there are title holders like Zonky Fana, Khan is probably going to end up winning a world title. In all honesty though, I think he is a European level fighter. He reminds me of a poor man's Freitas, with less power and less skill.
dsimon writes: Yu know it has been years now Mex that I have heard the Euros wax on and off about Khan. Usually the comments have been reserved with quite a few always stating Khan's weaknesses as such. I never got to watch Khan much to boot, so I have no idea about Khan's abilities, or lack there of but I do know this: 1) judging from the guys who seem to follow him he will get starched if he steps up. 2) He can't be that young anymore? (this is a question more than a statement), and if he doesn't wean off of bums in 6 round prelims soon, he may well never get to that level. Sometimes you have to leap into the abyss and say fuck it.:: It takes a fuck load of good judgement to bring a talented fighter along. I actually look at Vargas as the model for how it should be done, duva did a hell of a job maximizing Fernando in retrospect.
He is only 21 and this was his 5th consecutive 12 round fight (scheduled) in only 17 pro fights. Before that he fought two 8 rounders and a 10 rounder. And no go away you typical american know-nothing. :kick:
That was a great fight to watch- Derry got smashed from pillar to post. I loved how all he had to do to survive the fifth was get up, but he simply couldn't. Completely outclassed. Khan did well, and I was impressed with the stoppage (except that Martin jumped into the corner and stayed there for the third and final KD ::), but his left hand isn't getting any higher and that straight right keeps landing on his brittle chin. If he goes anywhere near anyone who can pop, he will be in serious shit. Needless to say, Werren isn't in any hurry to enforce the apparent mandatory against Nate. As Nate is 36 years old, I can't say I'm entirely surprised. Expect Khan to fight for a vacant title sometime in early 2009... :shit: MTF
IMO that is a little harsh Dunne is a better fighter then Mattews. I no fan of Khan but he was more impressive in this last fight he finished really well. But my view would be that he would struggle against the top guys in the div.
I meant the Dunne comparison re the crowd he brought with him, lads on the town who could barely list of any boxers outside of Dunne, Duddy, Ricky Hatton and Mike Tyson.
Well I can agree with that, I go to almost all boxing events in Dublin and the crowd attending Dunne’s fights was like something from Sin City, and the majority hadn’t a clue. I like Dunne and think he is a tidy boxer but 90% of the crowd thought he would dominate the division. Guys like De Leon, Cabellero, Marquez, Vazquez, Molitor don’t exist is their fantasy world.
