Polly Launder Tunney died Saturday at her home in Stamford, Connecticut. She was 100. Tunney was 21 when she wed the boxer in 1928, a year after he defended his heavyweight title against Jack Dempsey in the famous "long count" fight in Chicago. The marriage -- between a boxer born in poverty and an heiress to the Carnegie Steel fortune -- became the source of much speculation and media attention. Gene Tunney died in 1978 at age 81. Polly Tunney is survived by her sons John Tunney and Gene Tunney, and a daughter, Joan Cook.
