Will Calzaghe be the fastest fighter Hopkins has faced since Roy. We all saw what Roys speed did to a young Hopkins, it froze him and he couldn't get off. Now this is a oooold Hopkins, will the same or worse happen?

It will be better for Calzaghe if he tries to keep the fight at a distance and use his superior speed....if he tries to manhandle Hopkins he will get busted up. In this fight it will be better for Calzaghe if he throws 30 punches a round...than throwing 60....:nono:

This one is much crazier - this is Roy Jones kinda precision and hand-eye coordination at the floor-to-celing ball... :eeeek: :eeeek: :eeeek:

i tried that thing myself this is extremely hard to hit when it moves this fast

Impressive! Hopkins will be in trouble if he keeps his head on the same exact plane all night.

Calzaghe is fast, but he ain't Roy Jones fast.

Roy's speed came at you from odd angles, while Calzaghe is a down-the-pipe puncher for the most part.

 Y'all the reason why Zab Judah keeps scoring consecutive "megafights".

Shane was awesome and also Roy i agree those guys are definitely faster than Joe. I didn't mean to say he was the fastest guy ever or something, just pretty fast for a white dude...

Also his ball seems to bobble around a bit more in circles and seems not as stiff as Roy's, that's why i think it was a bit harder to hit and Joe couldn't do a choreography like these two...

Which part? I can't believe anyone would argue that Roy's punches didn't come from odder angles than Calzaghe?

Roy did crazy things in terms of punching. He'd have his feet facing left and fire a right uppercut that started from below his hip and it would land with authority.

As many on here will tell you, I ain't a Roy Jones fan. But I've also never seen anyone punch with snap and power from such crazy angles as with Roy Jones.

I'm shocked that it's even debate fodder.

Everything you say is true...but Calzaghe also punches from weird angles although hes at his best when he straightens out his shots IMO.

Roy threw some slappy punches as well, though he typically did it only when he was throwing those 20 punch combos or quintuple hooks :slap:

Agreed- both men throw punches from a variety of angles, though Roy's almost always carry more snap and are even more unorthodox.

I'm not sure you could say that Calzaghe is generally a straight throwing, down the pipe sort of fighter? :dunno:

I dig Jones, he was an athletic marvel. And one of the rare breeds that was a true joy to watch, even destroying bums. Such was the amazing style and visual splendor on display when disposing of said bums.

HOwever, I am disagreeing purely with the coming down the pipe part.

Kessler is a perfect example of a well schooled, rigid fighter that only shoots straight down the pipe.

Joe's style is certainly not as nuts as Jones for sure, but the way you describe him is wrong too. He is an awkward operator, who does fire from a lot of different angles and ranges, and has quite a freestyle way of fighting.
