Now you pushin' me!" ::
Aaahhh... The PARANOIA that has carried him through all these years is alive and well. Any athlete SERIOUS about winning will be very particular about his/her training. In the back of his mind, he is probably thinking he doesn't want to catch any flu's while in England as to not miss any days of camp. Plus the interview is conducted in a plain trailer in the back lot of a studio. This is a living legend, don't these people know they are dealing with the 90 million Executioner Hopkins??
<TABLE id=table16 cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width="99%" border=0><TBODY><TR><TD vAlign=top> Joe Calzaghe flies to America today for a press tour with Bernard Hopkins - with a pair of fine cashmere socks to give to the world's number one light-heavyweight. It follows Hopkins' temper tantrum last week in the UK, when he was filming a promotional video for the fight at a warehouse location first thing in the morning. Despite being a product of the tough streets of Philadelphia, Hopkins likes his home comforts, and moaned constantly about the cold. And when one of the producers threw a pair of socks at him, he failed to see the funny side and threw a temper tantrum of diva-like proportions in his dressing room. " I just hope Hopkins doesn't get cold feet when it comes to going toe-to-toe with me," said Calzaghe, who will meet Hopkins head-to-head in New York, LA and Las Vegas. The pair will fight in the Planet Hollywood Ring at the Thomas & Mack Centre, Las Vegas, on April 19. Hopkins' Ring Magazine light-heavyweight title will be on the line. " I'll be presenting Ol' Popkins with a pair of socks when I see him in New York," said Calzaghe. " He'll need them when we fight because I'm going to be keeping on his toes all night, and I don't want him moaning about blisters. " Where I come from in the Welsh valleys, we don't mind a bit of cold, but I can understand if Hopkins doesn't like it. " After all, when you get to his age, you do start feeling the cold!" </TD></TR><TR><TD vAlign=top> </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
Hopkins has a point though. He's a legendary fighter, and doesn't want to jeopardize his training by getting sick. He's helping promote the fight and helping to make the promotion successful, and the best they can do is throw a pair of socks towards him? Can you imagine doing that to someone like Michael Jordan, or A-Rod? Someone would get in big trouble for that.
Actually, Bernard's a bit gay. Does he have any shred of humour....at all? Like...somebody made a throwaway comment - let it fucking lie, you idiot. :dunno: Hopkins = problems. :shit:
Of that there is no denying and Hopkins is FAR more knowledgeable about boxing, the history of boxing, etc. You ask Cal-Slappy which fighters won the 168lb belt before he had it - he'd look at you with a totally vague expression on his face: "Whhaaaaa?" Calzaghe - dummy.
Diva, maybe, but that doesn't make him wrong... Step outside the situation for a moment... I've worked in television news (in one form or another) for 21 years. If we (at my old network) had a dignitary for an interview and the dignitary was uncomfortable, we would do what we could to make that person comfortable. We darn sure wouldn't say, If your feet are cold wear better socks! That IS an insult at that point. I'm saying dignitary, but that used to go for a new person on the political or entertainment scene as well... Bernard went into a 6 minute tirade, but the man is right...
Both. I've listened to Hopkins a lot and never noticed anything special. And Calz has never seemed stupid. So what are you basing it on?
