Common sense seem to be lost on our American friend, they where so hell bent on getting Calzaghe to go over there they failed to look at the big picture..

No doubt that Clazaghe would have gotten the refs and judges on his side too. look at his complaining to the ref in the bika bout. whinging to the ref in the slaem bout. whinging against mitchell. ofrcing the ref to act.

Yes, this is a big fight, but it seems the Yanks don't agree and won't shell out. The welsh would have.

What the fuck does any of this have to do with a lack of ticket sales at Planet Hollywood? :dunno:

Attraction, you know I think you're alright and all, but you're trolling a lot more than usual lately.

I don't even know what ticket prices are but I hear they are really high. If I was in Vegas that weekend I'd go see it, but I'm not travlin when I can sit at home and watch it in my house on the big screen on HBO:cheer:

That's another thing that makes this a complete business fuck up- the prices are sky high AND it's not even a PPV fight.

Who priced this fight for Planet Hollywood- Stevie Wonder?

Anyway, none of this should detract from the fact that the fight, from a commercial perspective, should have happened in Wales. It's not like Kessler got paid peanuts to fight Joe in Wales. He got about $5million, I think.

I don't think it's fair to say it's not doing well cuz it's in the states.. it's not selling well cuz they are charging too much and not many people here know who in the hell Crapzola is! Boxing fans do but just people hanging out in vegas, casual sports fans, they probably only heard about him from the fight build up

but.. the fact that it is on HBO.. that's awesome, maybe not for the gate but for people that have HBO and can chill and watch it in the comfort of home.

Brother LOK- these are the EXACT reasons why it's not doing well because this fight is in the States!!

If this fight was in Wales, EVERYONE would know who Joe and Bernard are, the prices would be a lot more reasonable and would therefore attract the more casual boxing fan.

Seriously, if this had been in Wales, it would have sold a MINIMUM of 50,000 reasonably/quite high value priced tickets. Easily.

I'm not arguing that it will seel more tickets in Wales

I'm just sayin.. it SHOULD be here! and it is! :bears: most people here don't even know what the hell Wales is!

You might want to actually think before you post mate. The fact that Calzaghe has shown a propensity to get the refs on his side in several matches (there is no denying this), might well have SOMETHING to do with the fight NOT HAPPENING in wales??

    That is actually good advice....

So Calzaghe has the ref on his side all the time, pull the fucking other one....there is always "home decisions" state side.

even as a british fight fan, i'm glad that Joe is finally going over to the states....winning over there is something he has to do before retiring undefeated.

Whether Hopkins is the right opponent for that is debatable. Calzaghe was a strong favourite when this fight was made, but now perception over who will win this fight seems more balanced.

From a business standpoint, Hopkins, rarely in a thrilling fight, wasn't going to be an opponent that was going to make this fight appeal to casual fans.

And from a boxing perspective, Hopkins is a spoiler...he makes people look bad. Calzaghe may struggle with his stlye, and i can see a lot of close rounds, and after 12 rounds, Calzaghe's hopes may be in the not-so-safe hands of the judges.

Indeed. Perception has changed about the fight. Even on this board a lot of people have started to pick Hops. It could be the hype is working. I find it a bit hard tro swallow that HOpkins stock increased that much, but the lines in vegas will tell us if that is true.

I am looking for a rare situation where figtbeat goes against the conventional wisdom with the predictions. It would make me very proud to be a member if the board picked Hopkins for example and Hopkins won.... And this is the kicker... If Hopkins was the underdog.

Absolutely. And even though that's exactly what happened with me, I'm not exactly sure why.

When it was announced, I was 99% sure Calzaghe would win, now that's dropped to about 60%.

Seems like some bad or nonexistent business advice is going to have that casino owner footing bill, Hopkins is not a ticket seller and Calzaghe doesn't really have a hatton-like following. All parties would have done well financially if it did take place in Cardiff or similar but thats boxing.
I see a disputed decison here no matter what (and I don't mean simply disputed by the losing guy).

Wow!! doesn't anyone do a marketing analysis on these things? It is pretty ironic that this fight is a financial wash. It might be one of the most significant fights in a long time.
