Also there are reports that Ruiz beat up Lewis in sparring and that is why they avoided him.

Then there are reports that a few different fighters knocked Lewis out cold in sparring.

Finally what about the video on this site that shows Jeremy Williams judo flipping Lewis and threatening to kick his ass.

Interesting that you say he "was not even a star yet" given that he was already the number one contender according to you...and that he'd never fight again after that.

Not a star, yet he turned down an offer to fight HBO's heavyweight star of the moment: Michael Grant.

    Interesting career choice.

There's at least one prerequisite to becoming the people's champion: They have to want you. Lennox Lewis looked, talked and acted like a heavyweight champ, but has he proven anything? His titles were tainted at best, and his road to obtain them has been common to say the least.

Lewis, the man who would be king of the heavyweight division if not for Don King, has his heart set on being some sort of champion. He was never able to capture the public's imagination, partly because never produced a landmark victory -- in or out of the ring.

Lewis became history's most nondescript undisputed heavyweight champ with a make-good decision over Evander Holyfield. The way he lost some of the alphabet belts is even more interesting...

One title was lost without a punch being thrown. A federal judge recently ruled Lewis couldn't keep the WBA belt because he didn't immediately fight the organization's mandatory challenger, John Ruiz.

    Duck!

He was relinquished the IBF later in an effort to avoid fighting Chris Byrd. Instead of honoring his mandatory challenge, Lewis decided to cut and run like a coward.

    Duck!

Lewis, however, was allowed to keep his WBC belt. Small consolation. Lewis "won" a rematch with Holyfield to unify the title in Las Vegas, where nonpartisan judges were used, even though many felt the verdict was robbery in reverse. Holyfield took the fight to Lewis in virtually every round and stood strong the few times his opponent tried to get aggressive. Lewis' lackluster performance left his British minions, rowdily chanting at the start of the bout, silent at the end and shocked at the unanimous decision.

Lewis' first title came out of the garbage -- literally. He was given the WBC title in 1992 after Riddick Bowe denounced the organization in a press conference by dumping the belt in a trash can. It had nothing to do with any fear of Lennox. - Bowe would have knocked him out anyway. Lewis was named champion based on his previous KO victory over Razor Ruddock.

    Tainted title.

Many point to Lewis' first-round knockout of Andrew Golota in 1998 or his sixth-round stoppage of Tommy Morrison in 1995 as his most impressive outings. But both victims had more than blood coursing through their veins the nights they fought Lewis. Anyone could have beaten them at that point.

Lewis' resume is rather mediocre for an undisputed heavyweight champ. Sorry. That's "formerly" undisputed now. The victory over Mike Tyson was also tainted since Tyson was, at that stage in his career, an older and used-up former champion.

Years later, he chose to retire instead of take another beating at the hands of rising superstar Vitali Klitschko. The low road seemed to be the one more traveled by this overrated glob of ego.

    Duck!

Lennox Lewis was a good heavyweight, but far from the caliber that he and everyone else believes. All you have to do is the homework to prove it

Why do you have so much trouble understanding what I write?

I said Lewis SIGNED TO FIGHT Kirk Johnson. And that is a fact. He didn't sign to fight Vitali Klitschko.

Some have argued that Ruiz was not credible enough for Lewis to fight him but then how is Johnson credible enough when Ruiz beat him?

I do give credit to Lewis for fighting Vitali as he is a lot better fighter than Johnson.

What I don't like is that Lewis retired instead of taking the rematch. That will always be a huge blow to his legacy.

That was his management team's choice. He didn't make any choices. He was not a star.

A star is when you win the heavyweight title. He had not done so and was relatively broke.

The man could not even make bail. Can you imagine not having money to pay bail and stay out of jail but you think he was a big star that called all his shots?

The truth is Lewis was the one who called his shots and avoided Byrd and Ruiz.

Why would Lewis have to rematch Vitali when he beat Vitali by 6th round TKO? Almost took the poor guy's eye out of the socket.:eeeek:

I'm not sure of the details of whom he was supposed to fight, but Ibeabuchi turned down an HBO deal in his own way, by showing what a lunatic he was.

He went to dinner at a nice restaurant to talk about the deal he would get, but he started rambling about how the organizations were under ranking him and the offer wasn't enough money, and then took the knife and started stabbing the table.

  Yeah! Mayweather is a f*ckin' wizard when he bores the crowd to sh*t, causing half of them to head for the exits before the 9th round. Somehow it's skills.

That's why Lewis retired and refused to take a rematch no matter how many times Vitali called him out and how much money he was offered.

Lewis fought him and beat him inside the distance.

Should every TKO be avenged by the winner?

But I'm just curious, how did Klitschko-Rahman turn out?

He was offered $1 million to fight Grant.

But it makes sense to blame that on anybody but the fighter.

It's not exactly what you said but thanks for the link.

The man is in prison for so long just for "raping" a prostitute. Outrage is not a big enough word to describe that.

    Ibeabuchi would have decapitated Lewis!

Even if they let him out today he can still come back and be champion.

How long is this man going to sit in prison for nothing?

You really don't have a clue about Ike Ibeabuchi. This guy was so f*cked in the head, he would phone his manager in the middle of the night and tell him "Ghosts are coming out of my air conditioner!"
The guy was demented. F*ck 'em. He's finished. He'll never have a career in boxing. He's just a fat old man now, whatever youth he had is gone.
Go latch onto another young up and coming heavyweight. Let Ike be...

Vitali held on for his life after that Lewis uppercut in the 6th. It actually blew a hole right through the bottom of Vitali's upper lip. Dude actually had both arms wrapped firmly around Lewis' waist and was driving him backwards because he was getting tired. Lewis won the 6th on all judges' scorecards. I actually have the german broadcast of that fight and in it, you actually see the camera magnify into Lewis' face as he's sitting in his corner and he's actually chatting with Steward, not even breathing that heavily. Lewis had a few more rounds left in his tank. I wouldn't doubt he was getting his second win when the fight was stopped after the 6th.

I know you want that to be true because he scares you. The truth is he is a regular human being just like anyone else except he is a great fighter.

The only thing stopping him from being heavyweight champion is getting out of prison.

He shouldn't even be in prison actually for what he did. Definitely not for as long as he has been.

This country is currently fucked up and things like this are evidence of that.

Just like a Lewis nuthugger, making up stories. You guys love to do that.

What you hate is for this man to have to get in the ring and fight. You're glad there was no seventh round. I would have loved one.

You're happy there was no rematch, again I would have loved to see one.

You're happy he avoided so many contenders because you can just make up fairytales about what he "would've" done to them.

There is a reason only Lewis nuthuggers who are damned to an eternity posting on obscure message boards care about him.
